You might save a few quid by waiting, but to be honest, for the sake of a tenner or even twenty euro, did that ever stop us getting what we wanted sooner rather than later? :D

The 6870 is still OK enough to make hanging on relatively painless though. At the same time, what better time to sell the 6870 and upgrade. You should get about 90 for the 6870, making the upgrade less than a hundred for a huge increase in performance.

Oh well too late now lol, I'll sell the 6870 after XMas and pick up the 270x thanks for the help

I am going to buy him BF4 too. As poor fecker cant even afford it for 360. A little xmas surprise!

Well, I am sort of a Dick :pac:, but when I know that a person is a "good person", I will try to help out as much as I can. Though it only takes one time for someone to **** on my doorstep for me to complete take that person out of my life.

I had some free time, so I managed to sort out PC today. Completely took out all personal stuff ( there was not much in the first place ). Everything was so out of date that I even needed to update netframe 4.0 manually! :pac: Updated GPU drivers too. So it looks like the old girl is in full working condition and ready to take on young peasant and show him the true light of gaming glory! :D

Tomorrow after work ill pop in to gamestop and pick up BF4. I think I sow it only for 36.99eu. I was thinking of taking digital version as it would be cheaper, but then I decided it would be a lot more fun just to wrap up physical PC BF4 in nice xmas paper and gift it to him, then tell him: Well lad, you need a PC now finger out. :pac: When I will get bored of taking a piss Ill just give him the my oldy girl.

Anyone with a samsung 840 pro SSD should download the latest magician software, Samsung have enables the RAPID mode that was previously only on the EVO. Double performance for free (for short periods)

Have you tried putting the drive into a different enclosure or hooking it up as an internal drive?

Its a drive that has its own power cable. Id like to open the enclosure but its a tad difficult. I dont see any screws and i might void the warranty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,700 ✭✭✭Danger781

^How would you open the enclosure on drives? They all seem pretty damn solid..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,203 ✭✭✭Squaredude

I've managed to open any external drives I've owned. Granted you probably wouldn't want to do it if you're going to be returning it.

No, mine are a few years old. Just picked 'em up and they're pretty solid all the way around.

Looking at the Hitachi I could probably pop the top off

But the WD is a different story..

May just have got lucky with the drives I've had. Usually just have to find a few hidden screws or find a point that looks like it can be pried open.

I got the Sapphire 7870 GHz edition from Amazon earlier, €151 delivered, as my first proper graphics card its really good

I was using a GeForce G210 512MB (with everything on low settings) before so this is a good upgrade I'm playing at 1280x720 now and I've tried Bioshock Infinite and Arkham city both work on on ultra settings:)

and my windows experience score went up from 4.1 to 5.9, the primary hard disk is the lowest one so it should go up a bit more when I get a SSD

Good stuff man :) You only have a 720p monitor?

You can probably overclock that graphics card a nice bit you know :)

I'm using a 6 year old 20" TV that does 720p at 60Hz or 1080i at 30Hz but it was flickering at 1080i so I left it at 720p, I'll be buying a 24" monitor in a couple of months anyway so I'm fine with 720 for a while

It's a huge upgrade graphics card from what I had so I might not need to now but I prob will eventually

By any chance are you using a VGA cable? They can't carry high resolution signals properly and will will have flickering when you go higher than 720p.

I'm using HDMI, I think its just the age of the TV

I had that WD external drive. You can open it by using a plastic tool to separate the base plate from the surround. It's only held in by clips. You can Google it if you ever want to try, although obviously you'll be saying goodbye to your warranty.

That's not true at all. Up until HDMI 1.3, VGA was a superior connector standard, capable of 2048*1536 at 85Hz while HDMI was only capable of 1080p60.

    ^^Yup.
Was about to say I've opened a very similar WD drive to that before. That whole black part is one piece of plastic, but it's somewhat flexible and it pops away from the edge that runs all the way around. Getting it back together was more annoying than taking it apart, but it still wasn't TOO difficult.

I use a vga cable on a spare monitor I have which is 1920*1200 and its crystal clear with no flickering.

a vga cable can display 1920x1200 perfectly well, only time it starts to lose quality is if you are using a cable longer than 25 feet.

I know people working in the Irish and British postal services. They're extra days being put by loads of people at the moment to try and deal with the amount of parcels etc that they are dealing with.

I'm really unsurprised that any non-courier option from anywhere is slow at the moment.
