Eeeek my i7 gaming laptop should be arriving tomorrow.

Only, it's not mine. It's the wife's. Getting her a better laptop as she's getting into more graphically demanding games :) I'm still excited to see it arrive though!

hwvs say pc is on the way :) christmas might come early..!

was looking pretty bleak at one point - by the time the bank transfer went through, the graphics card had gone out of stock. And by the time the card came back, 4 other items were out :( thought it was going to be back and forth like that, but looks like hwvs put stuff aside - or subtracts it from their stock total. Either way, got the new pc jitters, twitching here in work :)

    hey guys,

Just got a 3g dongle from amazon and it came with a micro SD card slot. I think its optional.. It is just to make it a storage device too? it wont actually improve performance like add some sort of buffer?

took me some time to realise it wasnt a micro sim card slot as I was trying to use my phones sim while i wait on my mailman:rolleyes:

    thanks :)

Just heads up to people who order from amazon with super saver delivery - its a cluster ****. I think they are up to their tits and despatching stuff takes ages. I ordered my stuff on 3th and 4th and it will be dispatched only on 10th... :(

Was the same for me, normally takes 2 or 3 days. Took a full week last time, I'd not be looking for anything in a hurry from there right now

Go specially to 4home and buy for your dogs a big feck off pillow bed, so it would be nicer for them to sleep. spend 40eu on it.

Come back home and find that your 5.1 PC speaker setup is acting out, very low quality, interference etc.

Check 5.1 speakers one by one and realise that 2 speakers are not even working...

Go under table and find a lot of small chewed up cables, which were your speaker cables.

Look at your dogs, who have this look:

I'd definitely email out Amazon if anyone is just ordering Christmas presents now or concerned it might take a while.

I got email yesterday after all from Amazon. They dispatched my stuff. Email was sent in at about 17:00. As I said before the planned dispatch date was 10th and 12th.

So yeah, Amazon always lies :D. I would recommend contacting them if you see that it is not being dispatched. If a person already contacts them I think they put you in to priority list or something.

Demand for 7950s/70s in US is huge right now due to the cryto currency mining boom (litecoin in particular at the moment, bitcoin is dominated by ASICs AFAIK). Second hand 7950s are going for 400 dollars, when they were as cheap as 170 dollars after tax rebate a few short months ago.

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=7950

I would sell my own (Accelero cooling included) for 300 euro if I could, but their doesn't seem to be a similar demand here in the EU for them.

So a lot more people are joining the most epic Financial scam Pyramid of all times?

    Though why 7950 and 7970?

Because they're good at mining? 290s and 290xs are in low supply. But they work too.

I just played Fez for a few hours.

My brain keeps trying to rotate my screen to another dimension.

    It's very confusing.

Well D'oh.... They are good, but why? Why AMD cards are better?

On the whole bit coin bull****. Aint that already proved, that you will spend more on Electricity then the actual bit coin will be worth?

it used to be afaik but if you mined 2/3 years ago when coins werent brutal to mine and kept hold of them (unlike the guy in london:pac:) they more than bpay back their mine cost

I decided against mining in 2011 because of the electricity cost

Bitcoin atm is probably dead end due to mining issues and i think litecoin is the new gold rush and most of theses programs use opengl (AMDs compute Type)

From what I remember reading it has to do with the different processor architectures with the two brands. Outside of their roles as a GPU they excel in different kinds of mathematical computing due to the different way they approached the GPU problem.

In simple terms, do loads of simple processors (ATI) or much fewer more complex processors (nVidia) solve your question quicker? Massive parallelisation or raw throughput per core basically. I know nVidia GPUs are used in some supercomputers purely because of the answer of this question and as far as I remember it's also why ATI cards are better than nVidia cards when it comes to generating loads of "relatively simple" hashes (i.e. what you're doing with bitcoin mining).

Just different ways to do the same thing, being useful for different purposes. Nothing odd about this really.

Nesf is bang on. BTC uses SHA256 but LTC uses Scrypt which requires massive thread concurrency. AMD cards are top dogs for that.

People *CPU* mining BTC at the start could get 50BTC in day or so, but they were worth sweet f'ck all. Now those same 50 are worth up to $50,000 as of last week. The idea is never really mining to be the main thing about a crypto currency, it just facilitates the distribution of initial "wealth" and trade itself.

LTC diff has spiked since it started making headlines so its a bit late to be getting in on that. If you want to speculate and maybe make a quick buck try Zerocoin or something. But really the world needs 2 cryptos at most for now, so long term most alt coins are gonna die out. Its a gamble but in this weather you're also heating your house so that could be discounted against the power cost.

A similar thing happened to me after a few hours spent playing X3: Albion Prelude, I kept thinking that everything was moving slightly faster than normal thanks to SETA.

It's a 7970, if you're a gamer hopefully you know what that is, if you're a newbie bandwangon-jumping bitcoin miner you may not. ;)
