Love it when Seaneh comes on here to tell other people whether the drink they just had was any good or not.

I had the imperial brown ale myself at the weekend and thought it was quite nice. Apparently I was wrong about that. :(

Jaysus not this again, god forbid anyone have an opinion.

The batch of the brown ale I tried was totally overdone on the roast malt IMO, overpowered all the other flavours to the point of tasting burnt. But its just a pilot brew, so we are probably the fools for paying Galway to do R&D. And if it results in beers like Of Foam and Fury happy days.

    That sounds heavenly.

Thankfully it seems to be popping up fairly regularly these days!

Don't think they have the brown ale. They had the Pumpkin on the rotational tap the other day. The DIPA is in all the bars.

My taste buds must be destroyed/burned by hops, cause I can't actually get a taste from Molson.

I'm watching the first episode of BrewMasters. Looking at the Dogfish head brewery, at all their different beers. I want them all.

Had to settle for the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Black IPA. I thought it was ok. I loved the Nelson hop coming through.

I'm thinking of picking up a bottle of the Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout. Do people here think it's worth the price tag? (a little under €8)

As a once off yes. But that said, who's to say you'll like it, you'd have to try it to know that. ;)

Tried Brewdogs 'Santa Paws' there the other night.. Was not bad but not a very festive offering!!

Anyone spied Anchors Christmas offering for this year yet?

Oh yeah?? I got it in Corks offie in Terenure.. Maybe its a previous years offering that was found in the corner of a storeroom?!

I'm not sure. Drinkstore have it too, but I do remember them selling out last year as I never got to try it. I haven't heard any promotion by Brewdog (something, believe it or not, they love to do) so when I seen it available it got me wondering.

Turns out the reason why they haven't been promoting the Hoppy Christmas and Santa Paws is because apparently they messed up with getting it out in time.
We made big batches of our 2 Christmas beers this year. Most of the batches were due to be shipped to export markets. However, the beers took slightly longer than anticipated in tank meaning they missed their shipping dates to be in-store in both South Africa and Brazil. Christmas being Christmas meant there was no point in us shipping the beers on the next shipment as they would have arrived too late.
Consequently we have a lot of both Hoppy Christmas and Santa Paws, which have freshly rattled off our bottling line. Rather than letting the beer earmarked for export go to waste, we thought you would give you guys a little Christmas present and give you an amazing deal on the beer if you buy 12 bottles, selling it at cost price so it can all be enjoyed over the festive period. South Africa & Brazil’s loss is your gain!

I don't like the Foam & Fury DIPA.

Got a small taster last night, it's way, way too far up the hop scale for me, unfortunately. I'd never be able to stomach anything more than a mouthful.

Buried at Sea though, it's fast becoming my favourite tipple.

Had a pint of Tumbler too, very nice also.

You just didn't like that it only came in a 2/3 pint glass ;)

Anybody tried any of the Hardknott beers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

I had their Infra Red. I quite liked it, although I can't remember enough about it to be descriptive, apart from that it was unusual at first and nice by the end.

It's delicious, possibly one of the nicest beers I've ever had. It's the only Nøgne Ø beer that I've tried that I'd whole-heartedly recommend considering the prices. €8 (or just under) seems a little steep for it though, it's always dear but I don't think it's normally that dear.

Definitely worth buying as a one-off though, it's like a desert in a glass and really hides its 9% abv well.

I dunno, from what I've had so far they've been a bit of a mishmash.

I'm having that at the moment, again it's a real odd ball mix up of flavours and style. It's supposed to be an American style red IPA, and it is to a degree, but it also has that light gassy chalkiness you get from Belgian Blondes. The Bitter also had that too. Odd beers.
