Stay away from Simply Games, they are cowboys and are currently being investigated by trading standards.

Not going into it again, just look at this post, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=87203404&postcount=2358

Pre ordered this in Gamestop late August. Was in there on Sat and was told that I probably won't have it until Feb.

Went to Argos and inquired as there expected stock levels on release date and availability up to xmas. They told me that they expect enough stock levels to supply xmas demand and have been hearing the same type of nonsense from people in relation to Gamestop. Looks like its just a huge marketing scam to be honest.

To be realistic a company like sony is not going to miss out on the possible huge sales from the xmas market in general, it makes absolutely no sense at all from a business and sales point of view.

Im guessing there will be enough to meet demand, maybe not on release date but thereafter up to xmas should be ok.

    Hype, Hype, Hype.

We have a regular poster here who works with Argos and they will not know what stock they will be getting till a few day before release, so what you were was told bull**** as it stands, not saying your lying though. Gamestop are only getting between 60-100 consoles per store, some more for the big ones and they are getting far more bundles in than Solus consoles which is having major shortages.

Like I have said already and if people were really interested in getting the console, they would know by now that the 1 million consoles Sony are releasing between launch and the end of the year are being split up between 42 countries outside the US and they will not go that far with that many and only another million consoles will be made available between January and the end of March in those same 42 countries, people could of pre ordered since February every launch has had shortages, it is not hype, it is fact.

Rather not say where here, but a couple of weeks I'd imagine.

Yeah no probs. I've no problem queuing up all night only if I'm sure I won't be wasting my time to wait untill shop open time to be told there's none left that staff would buy them themselves the fact there's so little quantities expected for non dedicated retailers

    Try a 24 hour tesco.

It is a month old article, if every country got the same amount of stock it would be 22000 consoles each, but that will not happen as bigger nations will get a lot more than us.

The first wave is between launch and the end of the year, that's 2 million consoles for the US and 1 million for the rest of the world, then it is the same amount again between January and the end of March.

You would have to check in the gamestop that you pre-orderd in to be honest.

Just out of curiosity could someone post a article about the 3 million stock allocation for the US and rest of the world. I'd like to give it read.

Thanks for that. That seems to be a forecast of stock allocation by an analyst and not actually from Sony. I was looking to see what Sony had to say about the matter. Unless I missed something completely.

The consensus is the same with all analysts and what Sony has stated to stock holders, they cannot lie about it as it breaks trading laws as they are a publicly traded company, Sony have estimates that are between 5-6 million which is easily googled and it is from launch till the end of March

Ah I see but isn't still just a forecast of what they expect to sell by march and not actually the stock that has been allocated?

Judging by the size of the PS4 retail box I'd say it will fit in one of the bigger lockers.

Yep you could get 4 or more of them in PM box. Very small and light, only 2.8kg.

Just curious, do you mind mentioning which store that was in? In a similar situation myself.

There's no trading laws prohibiting Sony and Microsoft from holding back information on supply.
It makes zero sense for them to come out and say ''ah we'll have more than enough to meet demand'' pre orders would fall massively, hell I nearly got roped into pre ordering when I'd no intention of.
There's a certain section of the games market that pre order everything regardless of stock, but by saying there'll be shortages it increases 10 fold the amount of people who put down pre orders which in turn lead to early sales.

Find me the trading laws that prohibit Sony and Microsoft executives from holding back on production outputs.
The shops don't have to be cahoots though as they're on a need to know basis and when they need to know they can place their additional orders.
It's better for the shops and it's better for the manufactures to have people putting down early money instead of hoping people part with the cash when there's a readily abundance(easier to put off and can lead to losses of sales).

Maybe they will end up being short, but I'm not going to buy the word of analysts or the companies themselves who have a vested interest.
I'm going to side with Economics and state that one of the worlds biggest companies matches demand on a long awaited product at the most important time of the year coupled with some free hysteria marketing thrown into the mix.

Also even accounting for any real shortages, as previously stated tonnes of people put down pre orders they never take, this is true at smaller purchases like a new game E50-60, it's even more true for products that cost E100.
I can't see the shops hanging onto units worth E400+ for pre orders longer than a day or two if there's people without pre orders willing to pony up the money in cash at the tills.
How many with pre orders have instant access to the cash?, It's a pretty substantial amount and a lot of people ordered a while back. I know at times from committing to trips or the likes that they can creep up on you, then you don't have the cash even though you thought you would.

I'm confident of taking someones unit at the very least in a shortage scenario.

They are basing the estimates on the stock they will have available, with demand so high, if they have 5-6 million consoles available from launch till the end of March, they are expecting to sell them all.

At the end of the day, there is only so many consoles they can manufacture. Have people forgotten all about the Wii launch?

Maybe you will, the likely outcome of such an event however is the next person on the list gets it.
