A lot of people out there are falling for the massive shortage hype . A manager of a GS store I know told me that they got a nice few extra consoles for launch day. Between Sony and Gamestop the hype machine is working overtime.

Hear a few rumours like that myself, hope its true, i only ordered (from Amazon) a few days ago and am now majorly panicking that i wont have one by xmas

I was looking at their site earlier today. They seem pretty certain with their launch day systems, but you'll be stuck with one of their two bundles. Considering we're in Ireland, you might not recieve it until the Monday after the 29th, but I can't say for certain. The shipping is like 30 euro (so overall the cheaper bundle is like 550) so I would only go for them if you're desperate. I might order from them myself, but I'm waiting to hear from Amazon if I'm getting my order before Xmas.

Including shipping my bundle including killzone and ghosts works out as 563Euro.. If it comes through It's not too bad a deal, considering I'm getting a couple games with it..

    Come on Shopto!

I've been thinking about this lately.

I haven't a pre order and I'm not really that bothered about having it launch day, but I'd certainly like it before Xmas.

I just can't see a situation where a big company like Sony can't match demand.

It's more within Xbox and PS's interests to declare a shortage to get orders/sales in early, saying you'll have plenty would lead to people putting it off and in turn maybe buying the rivals or not purchasing at all for a time.

Surely they could increase production to match demand even by taking on extra workers, it's not like they're supplying the entire worlds population either.

I'm going to hold off and try get it after release or even on the day but witout having to put money down or pre order, I can loan the money from the CU instantly so could get it on the day, but not bothered pre ordering.

I'd say like GTA it'll work out fine and there's be units available if not on launch day within a week, can't see it going 4 weeks past Xmas without any more stock... would be a business shocker and Sony are a pretty substantial company.

Was in HN's in Naas yesterday, manager told me they were getting 120 in total and had 120 pre-orders but expect not all of them to be taken, not taking any more pre-orders til early on release week, they expect to get a lot more in their 2nd batch than previously thought and would have them in 2-3 weeks after release, not taking pre-orders on those though!!

Drogheda HN only stopped taking pre orders 2 days ago. And guaranteed second batch before Christmas.

So yeah if Harvey Norman are getting a second batch before Christmas its all bull coming from GameStop to increase sales. And its working so fair play to the marketing team!

I could have pre-ordered, and money on the day won't be a problem. But I don't want to be tied to having to fork out the E400 on the exact day if for some reason I'm not pushed about playing it at the time.

As has been said, not every pre order will be taken and some people will have more than one pre order. Then there's others who'll pre order and not have access to the funds on the day in question. Living in a city with a number of avenues I'd be confident I can pick one up within the first few days with cash in hand.

Lads you are deluding yourselves if you think the stock shortages are just hype and that you will get one for Christmas if you have not pre ordered. We know as fact that outside of the US there will only be 1 million consoles made available to 45 launch countries between launch and the end of the year, your really gonna be disappointed as it will be between January and the end if March before you get one, but you actually have to get in and pre order or else it will take even longer, even Sony have stated they do not believe in walk in's till April.

I've got an online preorder for launch day, but It's probably going to be monday before it gets here (assuming they ship thursday). Anyone have any idea where my best bet of trying to get my hands on one in town(Dublin) would be on the day? Both GameStops told me not even this side of christmas.

You will not get any store now without a pre order, unless you camp outside Tesco or Argos

I would not go by what he said, a good few posters have stated that they will not be getting a 2nd batch till next year.

Its not, I know exactly how many my store is getting and they are getting a tiny amount after, people should read through this thread more, you will see that HM have told other people they will not be getting a second batch till next year.

It is just going against what a couple of other posters have said, plus good old HM is a bit dodgy at times.

What's the story with Amazon? If you preorder they guarantee you one before christmas? When do they take the money out of you account can anyone enlighten me?

Pre ordered this in Gamestop late August. Was in there on Sat and was told that I probably won't have it until Feb.

Went to Argos and inquired as there expected stock levels on release date and availability up to xmas. They told me that they expect enough stock levels to supply xmas demand and have been hearing the same type of nonsense from people in relation to Gamestop. Looks like its just a huge marketing scam to be honest.

To be realistic a company like sony is not going to miss out on the possible huge sales from the xmas market in general, it makes absolutely no sense at all from a business and sales point of view.

Im guessing there will be enough to meet demand, maybe not on release date but thereafter up to xmas should be ok.

    Hype, Hype, Hype.
