Niall is a fantastic hurler and was a great prospect for the future. You brought us so many great days, especially in 2012 where you played out of your skin game after game. An inspiration to all young hurlers. You will be sorely missed. RIP

As a Cork GAA supporter and a huge overall Hurling supporter, I could not believe the news I was hearing this morning. Its shocking news that a man my own age has been tragically taken.

Niall is a great hurler and was a huge prospect in the coming years for Galway.

My prayers are with him, his family and friends. May he rest in Peace.

RIP. God support and comfort his family in some way.

IMHO, was as good a candidate for YPOTY last year as any, had a superb debut year for Galway, from the very starting league game v Dublin. Also had a great semi' v Cork and a great U-21 campaign in 2011. A great prospect taken from us.

Being from Clare, when the Saffron and Blue was out of contention, we'd always shout for the Maroon
Terrible sad news for Kilbecanty, Galway and the wider GAA family
Sincerest condolences to his family and his club and county

Suicide is hitting all areas of society, its the first time in my memory that it came to a high profile GAA Player
Maybe the GAA can start some kind of initiative to help young fellas before it is too late

RIP Niall Donoghue, may your hurl never break, and the sun never be in your eyes as you line out on that great hurling field in the sky

Heard it on the sportsnews this morning. When the sportscaster said Galway hurling is in mourning this morning I assumed it was a former player from maybe the All Ireland winning teams of the 1980s that had passed, was shocked to hear Niall's name called.

Such a sad thing to happen to someone so young, but saddest of all he's just one of the many.
Anyone who read the former U21 Cavan goalkeeper's personal story would be touched, this takes it to another level entirely.

RIP and my thoughts are with his family, friends, relatives and loved ones

that's about the only potential light from this tragedy. There's already a group set up looking at helping players in all walks of life. It's modelled on an Aussie Rules initiative. Tony Griffen (former Clare hurler) is one of those involved.

Hopefully what has happened to Niall will give others the courage to talk.
