There is something pretty rotten with the Suarez loss of BPS. He was on 11. Immediately dropped to 7. His stats do not suggest why on earth he should have lost 4.

    None at all.
It has ruined any chance I had of making ground in my main league . looked thru it there and most have sturridge captained. Very few wïth Suarez at all which surprised me. Big swing in BP from end of game :-(

How is the BPS score calculated?

Players score BPS points based on the following statistics (one point for each unless otherwise stated):
    • Playing in a game
    • Playing over 60 minutes
    • Scoring goals
      • Goalkeepers and defenders (4 points)
      • Midfielders (6 points)
      • Fowards (8 points)
    • Assists (3 points)
    • Goalkeepers and defenders keeping a clean sheet (4 points)
    • Saving a penalty (5 points)
    • For every 3 saves
    • For every 3 open play crosses
    • Creating a big chance (a chance where the receiving player should score)
    • For every 8 clearances, blocks and interceptions (total)
    • For every 8 recoveries
    • Providing 3 key passes
    • Making 3 successful tackles (net*)
    • Scoring the goal that wins a match
    • Pass Completion (after making at least 30 passes)
      • 70% completion (1 point)
      • 80% completion (2 points)
      • 90% completion (3 points)
*Net successful tackles is the total of all successful tackles minus any unsuccessful tackles. Players will not be awarded negative BPS points for this statistic.

Players lose BPS points based on the following statistics (one point for each unless otherwise stated):
    • Conceding a penalty
    • Missing a penalty (-2 points)
    • Yellow cards
    • Red cards (-3 points)
    • Own goals (-2 points)
    • Missing a big chance
    • Making an error which leads to a goal
    • Every 2 errors leading to an attempt at goal
    • Being tackled 3 times
    • Conceding 2 fouls
    • Being caught offside 3 times
    • Missing the target with 3 shots
Data is supplied by Opta and once it has been marked as final will not be changed. We will not enter into discussion around any of the statistics used to calculate this score for any individual match.

The last paragraph says it all really.

31 -4 with Ramsey, Ozil, Giroud and Ivanovic to play. Happy enough, 18 for captain Sturridge.

Damn it. About 11.15 this morning I decided to change my captain from Sturridge to Suarez.

    Hello,

I appreciate the time taken to read this. I'm curious to find out just why Suarez received no Bonus Points today? In the BPS he was on 11 and then dropped to 7 leaving him adrift of earning any bonus points at all.

Sturridge earned 3 for scoring a solitary goal also and I'm confused as to how there was such a disparity between the pair. If this isn't an error and won't be rectified then I would appreciate a detailed breakdown of how the BPS was calculated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mr.P

Calm, thoughtful and to the point. I'm getting rather good at this lobbying points malarkey :pac:

8 for a goal, 2 for 60+ mins, 1 for 70%+ pass accuracy. No shots off target.

There is no way he lost 4 for being tackled. None.

    Half Time 3pm games - 26 points. 60 minutes 3pm games - 43 POINTS!! Full times 3pm games - 31 points  After BPs this evening - 37 points.

Oh well. Still have 5 to play.

The last paragraph on the bottom says they will not discuss the statistics data they obtained from third party. Basically their decision is final. Part of the game (have Suarez as captain, would love to get extra points, but it isn't going to happen).
Could have been tackled in the meantime or something like this. It is all based on the data they get, not what You think it should be.

Sorry if this has been asked earlier in the thread but just wondering something...how come Silva didn't take the City penalty today? Is Aguero first choice on them now or what? He's in my plans over the next few weeks and this would make him even more appealing.

Suarez needs to have been tackled 13 times in a few minutes...

Well, You can watch the whole game once again and count every little aspect of this, but this won't change the data they have.
And I do find it funny people check on the BPS points during the game, when it is all provisional. And now everyone thinks he suddenly lost 4BPS, when in fact this could have been just updated too late. No point in looking at this table and then wondering why do the points change all the time. The fact is they have third party looking after this data, and whatever data they get they based the bonus points on this. Simple really, I don't know what the problem is there.

Desperate stuff so far! 23 with 5 to play... thought i was onto something after my 77 last week :(

Holding onto hope that Terry, Ramsey, Ozil and Michu can salvage the week, wont rely on Fonte proiding much but either a CS for him or a brace from Michu would be good :p

I had a look at BBC.com live commentary summary. That is probably incomplete but here is Suarez game:
    84:55
Offside, Liverpool. Daniel Sturridge tries a through ball, but Luis Suárez is caught offside.

    84:54
Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool) hits the right post with a right footed shot from the centre of the box. Assisted by Luis Suárez.

    83:15
Offside, Liverpool. Kolo Touré tries a through ball, but Luis Suárez is caught offside.

    80:36
    Foul by Luis Suárez (Liverpool).

    72:44
    Foul by Luis Suárez (Liverpool).

    68:40
Offside, Liverpool. José Enrique tries a through ball, but Luis Suárez is caught offside.

    51:16
Offside, Liverpool. Victor Moses tries a through ball, but Luis Suárez is caught offside.

    48:09
Hand ball by Luis Suárez (Liverpool).

    45:00 +0:43
Attempt saved. Luis Suárez (Liverpool) right footed shot from the centre of the box is saved in the bottom right corner.

    38:14
Victor Moses (Liverpool) hits the bar with a left footed shot from very close range. Assisted by Luis Suárez.

    31:10
Offside, Liverpool. José Enrique tries a through ball, but Luis Suárez is caught offside.

    13:00 Goal scored
Goal! Goal! Liverpool 1, Crystal Palace 0. Luis Suárez (Liverpool) right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by José Enrique.

    11:36
Attempt blocked. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) right footed shot from outside the box is blocked. Assisted by Luis Suárez.

    5:13
Luis Suárez (Liverpool) wins a free kick in the attacking half.

Contrary to what I thought there is more red than green ... We don't know how much getting caught offside or committing fouls or missing a big chance is costing to the overall bonus points but I'd say Suarez last 10 min probably went against him and his 11 BPS were probably not including them so when they got updated he lost some points (though 4 points seem huge but in fairness 2 points lost would be enough to deny him any BP).

Well, again, I haven't seen the game, just trying to understand the thing for future reference ;).

It's actually painful that Sakho got three BP but Suarez got none. Like, I understand the system, but that's just silly!

Yep I thinks it's just small things. That live text mentions him being caught offside 5 times and you lose points for getting caught 3 times. So it's conceivable he actually got caught offside 6 times, 1 of them not live text-worthy but still counted. So the 6th was his second loss due to offside. Also possible that the penalty for being caught a second 3 times is worse than for the first (and if so I wouldn't argue too much 6 is a lot)

Add in the fact that he also might have been tackled near the end and BPS wasn't fully updated until after the game and maybe you can see why he got 7.

Have to say I like how much more transparent Bpts are this year but in this case maybe it's too transparent as the delay in updating and the threshold for minor incidents affecting points meant that there was a perceived jump at the end despite no major incident happening.

I wouldn't worry about it. There's plenty more points to come from el Pistolero this year!!
