D would be easier to sell later.

Apologies, no offence to residents in Tipperary North Riding.

You'd also be pegged as someone that can't drive, by dint of the fact that TN people can't drive. They also vote for Lowry. Nuff said.

I was being polite by not mentioning the above:D

Ah this is some Irish thing. Im Scottish, so wasnt aware of the regional prefixes meaning anything.

In all seriousness, would the reg mean the car was more difficult to sell? Are people really that daft?

D, Dublin may indicate that the Range Rover was a toy bought for the wife to do the school runs

TN, Tipperary, country life, may well have spent some time off roading and pulling the horse box to the gymkhana.

Yes , a reg could determine the saleability of a car in different parts of the country. I recall the Sales Exec. of a Dublin based dealership having a canary when he discovered my mint trade in had a KY reg!:D

It is a Dub thing. Lads I worked with before said they wouldn't drive a car with a country reg. Only D plates.

Agree totally with you. Ideal for car enthusiasts. Unfortunately Paddy would be running a Fred in the shed and advertising on DD ! Apologies for my cynicism!

Hans won't abuse the facility, nor will Pierre , nor Dave who washes his car every Sunday! But Paddy...........he will **** it up for the genuine guys.

Umm, excuse me for being a bit thick, but what is the actual Paddyscam with open-vehicle policies?

And don't tell me - they reckon the former existence is better for a stoating great fookin' Rangie, they do? :D

The only reg I'd have concerned about is a donegal reg as it may be trashed and a Cavan reg...

Funnily enough I'd have no bother buying an mn car. Probably due to the mother being from there

Oh right, but sure this kind of Hardy Buck-ism is hardly confined to Ireland - some of the furkacting in Blighty would stand the hair up on your head! :D

I love this thread! Its one of the few things that makes me wish I was a few years older and finished college so I could afford the insurance and tax on some of these beasts.

Nah then lad... can I talk to you about: Old Ford Luxobarges!! Top spec, old-school cool, and the Big incarnation of the mighty Cologne V6. This one breaks budget with an asking of €5,000, but I hope you'll indulge me:

Love those cars, owned one about 20 years ago, always wanted one from the time we were allowed to stay up late and watch The Sweeney. :)

"Hans" introduced a similar system in the 90's but it was changed and tightened up to the detriment of a lot of enthusiasts due to massive abuse. "Pierre" would have a field day shafting the system before it would be even introduced. The main reason France got rid of motor tax was that at the time it had by far the highest motor tax evasion rate in Europe.

I think the main reason it's not introduced here is there's such a small market for it, very few people here have small fleets of cars (mostly due to the tax system). You can always approach a specialist broker and talk to them directly, see if they can sort something out for you.

Nice looking CL500, NCT 05/14, claimed FSH, worth a punt at €2750 ?

Might be expensive at just under €5K but it still looks the business. There's a couple of them as daily drivers up around Rathgar and they still have serious class and presence IMO. New NCT, seller claims the car has ESP which it can't have (W140 and C140 were the first to have it). Not likely to depreciate too much as really good ones will stay at a decent price. No interior pics is a bit strange though.

Size wise maybe not in this category, "only" a 2.8 V6 but it's something different. Cadillac CTS.

I have now taken delivery of my luxobarge; 40 miles driven (1/2 motorway), very pleased. Gone in for service/healthcheck a little ahead of schedule. Back tomorrow, to France on Saturday.

So... I'm actually considering a CL500/CL600 over the 645ci :D Cheaper to buy, same to tax, similar fuel consumption, and it's a MEEEEERC :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,295 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

The one above seems perfect tbh.

If you have the money go for it.

I hope you did your homework, they are cheap due to horrendous suspension repair bills and servicing costs, trust me I used to own one.

For insurance purposes it has to wait until around May/June unfortunately :pac:
