The only thing. Reading the reviews of hola suggest there may be some malware/spyware involved. I think I might wait to see if overplay can do anything first.

same here, `geoblocked` with Overplay, any way around this??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭Gremlin

Just got an email from overplay asking me to try again. The only channel on right now is a brazilian game. It's working fine, Not sure if those are geoblocked though. At least overplay are taking this seriously which is good news.

So there is no need to subscribe to overplay, just use hola?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭tjspock

yep I only use hola and it works for me at the moment:)

All working here again on Smart DNS.....Could it be possible they are adding an extra layer of encryption just for the 3pm Matches and not for everything else?

So why are people paying a sub to overplay if Hola does the same job for free?

Possibly because Hola might have some spyware and from my experience, not very robust.

Can Hola work on an iPad?

Because Hola is a free VPN which is subject to congestion thus reducing available bandwitdh whereas overplay is DNS service that justs masks your I.P. meaning you still have full access to your own bandwidth. Free VPNs are usually rubbish for HD streams but may cope okay with low bitrate SD streams.

I can't see how that would work like that, DNS lets you resolve the addresses of servers to IPs, it has no ability to mask your IP address. I always imagined what they do is install proxies in the required country, and set up their DNS server to resolve to the proxy rather than to the actual server. So you don't really have all your own bandwidth, you would still have to go through a proxy.

Of course the risk with all this is that setting up a service like this is the ideal way for a hacker to gather information about you, but what the hell, I want to see the football like everyone else.

Can you give a source? hola appears to be like a legit and serious company to me.

It seems to be very slow today as i'm unable to watch the CL games properly. Paid for Smartdns now and it's been ok so far.

Smartdns doesn't seem to work for me anymore! the stream lasts 2 seconds and then stops! any one has the same issue??

Guys Im no expert and Im only a beginner on XBMC but I downlaoded a repo called 'offsidestreams.repository.mikey1234-repo-1.0.1' and offside streams works perfectly on my laptop (watched Celtic tonite on Al Jazeera 7 (and had Chelsea on the TV)) and I have no subscription to offsidestreams or overplay.

I have Hola installed as a plugin on Firefox but it is turned off.

As I said Im no expert and just a beginner so I dont know if what Im doing/done is even meant to work, but it does.

    Anyone else try this?

Offside streams had problems with their credit card receiver, so everyone had to re-register, so it is free and open at the moment , I doubt it will last too much longer.

That's a shame. I wonder if a proper VPN service would be best? Or is there potential for that to get blocked also?

I can't help but think Sky/EPL are sussing out the paramaters for the various VPN and DNS services and forcing JSC to eliminate them.

A VPN would be too slow to watch the games in decent quality given the poor internet speed in the region. Smartdns is the best solution but seems that we're close to the end of it :(

I checked different forums and I contacted different websites that offer the same service than overplay.

Firstly overplay told me that they are aware about the issues with AJS and they are working on it.

http://www.hidemyass.com/ confirmed that they support AJS online and that they have no issues, they have several servers in middle east and north africa - http://hidemyass.com/vpn/servers/.

https://www.vpnuk.info/freeaccount.php confirmed that they support AJS and they also offer a 7 day free trial, so let's hope we can watch some football the week end.

I haven't tried either hidemyass nor vpnuk yet but I'll probably do so in the afternoon, I will start with the vpnuk as they offer a 7 day free trial, both websites accept PayPal and a cancellation can be made any time.

Word of warning - Don't block your account with too many logins, not closing or logging out etc etc - Up to now it was just a matter of emailing them through the website portal and asking for them to unblock you and hey presto within a few minutes it was back on.

I was trying a few different VPN's last night and logged back in too quickly so I locked my account. I got an email back from them requesting a lot more detail including: My IP address, A Screen Grab of the map from whatismyipaddress.com, Town and Zip or postal code of the credit card or PayPal account used to pay, a telephone number which they can call you now on to discuss the issues and then they ask outright - Are You Using A VPN.

Looks like my account is definitely doomed here, would I get a refund seeing as they never requested any of this information and were glad to take my money whilst I was behind a cloaked IP - any thoughts?

OMG it seems they are making things harder than before, I would love to just get a refund of the 100 EUR I payed and forget about them. Maybe there is a possibility to file for a chargeback if you paid with PayPal.

Thanks a lot for the headsup! Seems like if someones account is blocked, then that's the end of it :(

There were no problems last years , all the problems started when they got EPL rights! I really wish they didn't as this ruins it for everyone who just wants champions league , spanish league etc

Looks like its a cat & mouse game now, glad i only got the monthly service.

It still works with a VPN but as mentioned the speed restricts this and I got a lot of stutter.

Guess its time to cancel the subs and look elsewhere.

how much is a big enough dish? Lol

I checked their terms and conditions and I haven't spotted that they don't allow the use of VPNs and SmartDNS, therefore if they block an account because they suspect the use of a VPN or a SmartDNS then the buyer should be able to request and get a refund, am I right?

I would imagine not , In the setup most people using overplay claimed they lived in Egypt for god's sake, And now you want to pull them up on something that you lied about
