I'm looking to set up Al Jazeera Sports in time for the Copa America :) I already have an 80cm dish. I'm looking for some information regarding the type of subscription and types of receivers I would need. I'm looking to do this as cheap as possible (no HD needed here!). All help will be greatly appreciated :)

Technomate 3500 with Aljazeera card +1 to +10 channels (Irdeto) on hotbird at 13 east

Ps, cheapest is not allways the best,

They seemed to show a game or two most weekends. I was never looking out for it but I am sure someone else will give you definite answer.

    That's a good price.

Has anyone any idea if an Al Jazeera card would work on one of these?

i think it was three years ago they showed every celtic and rangers games bar one or two including the 3pm saturday games.

for the last 2 seasons they have showed most games that were on sky and espn but no 3 pm sat games. its hit and miss but the bigger games are all usually covered.

its a great subscription for the price.

the only channel that showed all the celtic matches last season was setanta africa and it is on about 5 satellites but only 2 are available in ireland. its on 68.2e which is just over the horizon and its encrypted in conax. see footprint link

    http://www.intelsat.com/flash/coverage-maps/sat_foot.html?sat=IS-10%20at%2068.5%BA%20E&display=map&spot=2

it is also available on c band free to air on 10 east but you would need a big dish, footprint below

    http://www.eutelsat.com/satellites/10e-w2a_popd.html#

i dont know if they will show the same amount of games next year but if they were to i'd consider a c band dish.

feeds are very hit and miss and are sometimes encrypted anyway.

Thanks for all that info Tapfit. That is useful informational. But I think that's a bigger dish than I'll be let put on the house :(

A seems to be encrypted in Irdeto, B is Viaccess.

I'm only familiar with the Viaccess cards, which have worked fine in TM5400, TM6900Super and CCcam. I don't know how versatile with softcams Irdeto is - it's probably fine... I'll await someone with the Irdeto version to post here and clarify... :)

I emailed the shop and he said he recommended the blue one, which is viaccess as it's more stable. Makes me wonder why the other one was so much more expensive originally if they show the same channels anyways.

We use the Irdeto cards, None of our customers have problems with these, some people were having problems with the viaccess cards, A solution for you would be to use the technomate 3500(Half decent receiver) with the Irdeto card works a treat ;)

Note, new aljazeera cards (Irdeto) are now white in color, and have been for some time

@Premier: Funny, I'd have thought the opposite, as I remember people having update problems with Irdeto cards. However, that's over a year ago now, and I suppose all problems ironed out since.

The one Viaccess problem I had was when JSC upgraded the cards, that was a right PITA!

Currently, my JSC sub has expired, not sure whether to renew or not. I'm told there is less English language option these days?

No we have had no problems with aljazeera cards (irdeto) as of yet, we are lucky enough to have a great contact there and never been let down, over 7 years with our current supplier, One issue that we had was with a batch over 2 years ago , but that was down to a system registration failure but was sorted out in under 24 hours,

As for the english commentary good thing to come i believe ,

p.s The only reason we dont do viaccess cards is we had problems with them in the past and we dont like to have problems especially with cards

in terms of hd or just english commentary. i think it is a real shame that jsc have shunned from putting hd1 and hd 2 on hotbird as nilesat is out of reach for most of west europe and they have even removed from 4 east the test hd which was recievable.

maybe it is the cynical side in me ;) but could this be merely a ploy by a card salesperson to get more orders by promising stuff coming but giving no details. reminds me alot of the tactics used by alsat with tring etc.

In fairness Al Jazeera can't do an awful lot more as regard English commentary. Almost the English cup games, la liga, seria a, dutch league, heniken cup, europa league is in english. My main gripe last year was when the english commentary was only broadcast on the first choice champions league match and not on all the other ones.

I think that jsc should be focussing more on picture quality. There are too many channels on the one tp and the PQ is suffering. Never mind a hd channel ( Altough it would be nice :D ) they should try to sort out the quality of the sd ones. Sorry for slight rant I should be happy with all the sport I get for €100 a year :)

Just reading about Al jazeera sport there. JSC have won the rights to broadcast a few of the Lique 1 matches in France every weekend. I know that they always covered the French league but these matches are to be broadcast in France and they are going to "create a television platform" to broadcast the matches. They paid $129 million for the rights and I would be surprised if they do not broadcast these games on a hd channel. Jsc may have to put a few channels on 19.2 east because of this because thats were the majority of French channels are. But this is pure speculation they could as easy only broadcast the matches via cable or internet tv. Look at the article about it below.

    http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2011/06/24/154611.html

Another article I read about Al Jazeera sport was that they are to get a sports news channel similar to Sky sports News but it does not say what language it will be in. This is according to a report and there is no timeframe for this channel to be launced in.

Dubai Sport 26E. Their rights agreement is up after this season afaik, so maybe JSC will try and nab them.

I asked about extra champions league channels quoted on their site, possibility of hd channel on hotbird and on jsc sport 9+10 only allowing subs till December. This was his response.

"Yes Al Jazeera will be showing the Champions League games

Currently the channel 9 and 10 will only last till end of this year unsure what are Al Jazeera plans after that.

There are currently no plans for HD channel on Hotbird"

Conspicuous avoidance of answer on their quote of extra channels.

And theyll still let ya pay €30 for a years sub to those 2 channels? I hope not.
Although can't say I've had any difficulty with tech digital so benifit of the doubt here.

    Well lads,

Got my own Al Jazeera Card +1 to +10 the other day am very pleased with it. It is the new Viaccess 4.0 encryption. I noticed that sometimes when flicking thru channels it says "Scrambled" even though the card is in the box and the only way around it it seems, is to quickly press CH + and CH -. It can get annoying espec when going to record using PVR.

Has anyone experianced this with the new card? Or is it a fault with my box? (Doubting it though)

Funny enough, I was looking at the JSC card on TVCorner, and they state the same, regarding +9 and +10 only available until end of the year...

WOnder if 9 and 10 are being removed for their new coverage of French football?

Its not getting any better anyway. Maybe when they get rid of +9 and +10. The PQ will improve a bit.

This must be the first game I have watched SD in about 18 months.

The difference is ridiculous - feels like my eyes are being tortured!

Whats the craic with JSC World cup still on there 12 months later?
