Anyone else finding the sound on Al Jazeera HD6 to be horribly out of sync online?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,936 ✭✭✭lertsnim

This is very interesting. Looking at the schedules on http://www.en.aljazeerasport.tv/Schedule I can see two live Premier League games on Hotbird this Saturday

Stoke City vs West Bromwich live on +2
Swansea City vs Sunderland live on +3

I got it the other day though I put it down to my messing with the settings on my router. I then managed to lock myself out of my account so going to check back now and see if it's working. Are you using overplay?

could happen but not with english commentary and only sd

No English commentary on +3 would be very strange.

Well, there are only SD channels on Hotbird.

I can't see them showing on Hotbird - either a blank screen or blocked to certain cards. They might get away with one match but Premier League have stated that 2 Saturday 3pm games within the European footprint are not permissible.

Possibility, though, that JSC have got special dispensation though, maybe it's an event overspill?

In addition neither of the scheduled matches are listed for any other channel in Europe so maybe they've been chosen deliberately?

i doubt any english commentarys will be allowed on hotbird

and if it is , doubt it will last long when sky hear about it

Nothing to do with Sky. But, you're right, if they are on Hotbird they are very unlikely to be in English.

Both Listed on Liveonsat as being on 13.

Also the Chelsea V Cardiff game listed as being FTA on TVT on 9E (11881 V 27500 FEC 2/3).

    .

JSC are listing the matches to be on +2 & +3 and that's one of the satellites +2 & +3 is on, so why wouldn't they list Hotbird?

However it's also the satellite that JSC moved some channels off so that they could cover the Premier League, as required of them by the Premier League so I wouldn't take anything for granted.

Anyway, can Liveonsat be trusted as a quality source in such matters? They had Sky's first match of the season listed for FTA viewing on Pick TV on Astra after all!

I'm not sure what your point is?

As I said, Liveonsat listed it for showing on the satellite version - so hardly a reputable source in such matters.

I am sure that you are right on Pick TV. But Liveonsat don't just list satellite. There are cable and net listings too.

And perhaps they are pulling the channels from an auto listing database. ie because its +2 and +3 = list all frequencies.

I am right, mate, believe me.

And I'm well aware what Liveonsat list.

The time I'm referring to they listed Pick TV separately for Freeview and satellite. For 2 months, Sky's press release was freely available stating very clearly that on satellite the match would be on Sky 2 (in addition to Sports of course) and Pick TV on Freeview, so the info was there. Despite this they had Pick TV listed for FTA on satellite. About a week before the match they started saying it was only *possibly* available on Pick TV on satellite and finally removed the listing for satellite Pick TV the day before the match.

I would imagine this is what's happening. And, trust me, I hope as much as anyone that the two matches listed for Hotbird this afternoon are available on Hotbird, but Liveonsat - for the reasons you and I have stated - shouldn't be forwarded as a reliable source for it.

Unfortunately I can see a real possibility that the games will be blocked on Hotbird.

Jazeera website listing World feed commentators for +3; Arab only for +2.

As we know the PL strongly object to English language commentaries within Europe so it's still a wait and see thing!

Al Jazeera 2 on Hotbird are now simulcasting Sports 1 (not the case about half hour ago).

    AJ 3 still normal.

Liveonsat also missed Manchester United v Southampton on 6'Eren

So how did it pan out? No live Premier League games on AJS via Hotbird?

    They put Swansea on

    The teams up

Then I flicked to AJ4 and forest was being put on

Turned back to AJ3 and no Swansea match, it was Notts Forest

When I looked at AJ2, no sniff on Stoke v West Brom there

The Premier League were just enforcing the terms of their contact with Al Jazeera. If as you say they demanded that coverage of the game be taken down. More likely what happened in reality was the Al Jazeera were just messing around and never had any intention of putting coverage on Hotbird.
