    80 off 8 today, Par 72.

    3 birdies
    5 pars
    9 bogeys
    1 double

Mixed day, some great birdies but sloppy bogeys ruined what could of been a very good score. Bang on level with my handicap.

78 Gross....six over off 12 in Cobh Intermediate Scratch Cup this morning. Its a funny game. 30pts was out of the question for the first six and a half months of the year, a change of irons and this...! Delighted really but four over for the last four holes when I started to think about the possibility of returning a good score. Lost the nerve a little. Still, hope to be in the mix at the end...!!
Just goes to show you should buy new equipment more often.

78 won it. But there was two so you must have been either 1st or 2nd

Absolutely, would recommend anyone go to American Golf in Wilton, Cork and ask for Ger. I certainly have no complaints since he recommended my new Taylormades....!

Absolute shocker of a day from start to finish. Started with two doubles and stupid miscued shots all day for 84 (gross) off 8. 4 shots over the handicap very frustrating.

The other 78 was playing off 10. Intermediate was from 12 upwards.

A thoroughly bizarre weekend of golf.

Yesterday out with a society to play kilcock. Played my worst round of golf in I'd say 3 years or more. 19 points in total, 9 scratches.

When leaving the house took a look in the bag & saw iI had 7 golf balls in it. Said to the missus, 7 will be plenty. Came home with 1 ball & that by the skin of my teeth!

Only small highlights, finished birdie birdie, drove the green on 17 for 2 putt bird & clipped a nice gap wedge in to set up bird on last. Scored 7 points on those 2 holes, which adds up to 12 through the previous 16 :(

Then this morning back out to grange castle for singles. Started with a woeful triple 7 on the first & thought, not again!! But from there on played the following 8 holes -1 gross to finish 2 over through 9.

Back 9 was unspectacular with a couple of poor course management decisions rather than poor strikes being the difference between a good & great score.

15 points coming in to finish with 37 overall.

A major bounce back from Saturday to Sunday. Here's hoping I can carry that form through

Thanks. Had set myself a target of a Scratch Cup win at the start of the season but had played utter rubbish for most of the year. Really pleased with this.

39 points off 16 in Castlebarna today. Finally, finally, finally my first cut of 2013 :):)

Started spectacularly, solid par on 1st, nice birdie on 2nd, hit a superb tee shot on the par 3 3rd, should have really sank the putt to go to -2 but just missed. Bogeyed 4th and 5th but then parred 6th and 7th to be just +1 after 7. For a 16 handicapper this is nosebleed territory!

Then had a bit of a wobble around the turn, I think I got a bit uptight from the spectacular start, double on 8 after a good drive and awful 2nd shot. Finished the front nine in 39 strokes for 22 points.

10th was to be my first of two scratches, a par 5 index 18.:( Was in a greenside bunker in 2 but sent it out flying into bushes behind the green. Had to hack out and didn't manage to get up and down. Had another lovely birdie on 12th, but then scratched 13th after truly awful snap hook out of bounds off the tee. Parred 14th, made a mess of 15th with double, par again on 16th and two bogeys to finish.

Really happy with the performance. Driving was really good all day apart from nightmare on 13th. Iron play was superb, hitting them as good as I ever have.

    2 birdies
    6 pars
    6 bogies
    4 double bogies

    7 GIR

33 points on Saturday in tough conditions. My first game playing off my new 6 handicapp. Odd how much confidence a lower digit can give you. Made some really good pars throughout the day. This should have been a 38, had five putts that lipped from obscure distances.

.1 back and now out to 7, not disheartened though, going from 10-6 in a weekend was a major drop in shots, and it's going to be a struggle, but its giving me incentive to work on my game

    Shot Level Par 72 nett...

Very dissapointed, 3 bad drives resulting in 3 doubles on the card, was 2 over after 11

    Won my Class though...

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

32 points. A few three putts & poor short game generally, drove the ball very well, 14/15 fairways. Have played worse and scored 38+ so pretty happy as had not touched a club in 3 weeks.

Nett 78 in Presidents Prize at Moate on Sunday. Good front 9 followed by poor back 9. Seems to be the story of my year.

78, 72 gross off 3 in the Westmanstown Senior Scratch Cup on Sunday.

No joy overall but was happy to shoot +1 in round two; was cut 0.2 overall to go back to 2 handicap.

1st round was pretty much what I deserved, and yet promised so much after I found myself -1 after 7 holes. But I bogied my 8th (the 15th after a shotgun start on the 8th hole) then double bogeyed the par 3 16th after a poor 5 iron into the drink. Birdied 18 to get back to +1 for the round but three putted 1 from nowhere, and the wheels came off altogether on 2, where I slashed it OB off the tee. Played scrappily thereafter, and threw in another double on 6 after a woeful 7 iron into more water and missed a good chance for birdie on my last hole, #7.

Round 2 started in a similar vein; was level par after 5 but dropped a stupid shot on the par 5 13th. Also bogied 15 but got 1 back back on 17, leaving me on the same number I was at that point in round 1. A bad bogey on the 3rd put me +2 but made good pars on 4, 5 and 6 before finishing with a very satisfying birdie on 7.

Fairly happy with the day's work, but not at all happy with my long game. My driving was atrocious; from first tee to 36th I had no idea where the ball was going, and I had to scramble like crazy to avoid letting things get away from me. Irons were so so, but was delighted with my putting, probably the first time all year I've said that. One anomoly 3 putt on the 1st in rd1 aside, I missed very little and made a couple of bombs, which are always good for the confidence. 29 putts in both rounds is not exactly touring pro standard but it's the best I've putted over 36 holes in some time. Am hoping that continues for the remainder of the year and into next!

79 Gross in 2nd round of the Captains Prize in Carton House (O'Meara) on a miserable Saturday morning to give me a total of 153. Drove well which is about all I can say for the two rounds. Iron play was truly awful.

On another note, the course was in remarkable nick with the rough being very punishing. The two new holes were open which really adds to the course. The 18th is a huge improvement on the old hole and now ranks up there with the closing hole on the Monty Course

    39 points in Lismore today.A real mixn'match of a round.4 birdies, 1 par,7 bogeys, 3 doubles and 3 scratches(all by one stroke).
Granted the 4 birdies were on par 4's where my second shot ranged from 85 to 112 yards, I just couldn't miss with the putter with 31 putts, 2 3 putts, 7 singles.
It's days like today make all the slogging worthwhile:)

4 birdies  - nice shooting. Bit of a cut heading your way so...

Had a lesson. back swing cut by two thirds, slowed down to funereal pace (honestly). Having not broken 25 points for two years, scored 36 in Glen of the Downs (rough cut back so you couldn't lose the ball). Knocked down or pulled a lot of drives but everything else straight. Greens poleforked and sanded so a lottery but finished happy (despite scratching the last grrr). Concentration is killing but will keep trying the world's slowest swing

29 points today, 21 of them were over 8 holes!

Can't complain really though, I've had nearly 3 weeks off!

29 points in Cobh, 4 zeros.
Played well but got whacked tired on the back 9. I thought I was fit, fell away completely with the uphill downhill. Beautiful track on a great day. Well worth the fallout with herself indoors.

80 Gross today. 4 double bogeys. Finished with 4 tap in pars and a birdie, I hate this game so much.

37 points from a casual round in Elm green... 4 scratches included in that.
    20 out, 17 in.
My driving was really on form.
Started off well by driving it pin high on the first green and 2 putting for birdie. :)
    (I have a witness ;) )
Solid enough all day but a lack of concentration on both 9's caused me to scratch 2 in a row on them.

Out in club comp tomorrow. Hoping to drive on for first cut

70 strokes in carton (Montgomery) course yesterday. Four birdies on 2,8,9 & 18 were offset by bogies on 5 and 15.

Driving, chipping and putting are really on at the moment but the iron play is really poor. More work needed

Decent couple of games recently, even picked up a couple of prizes!

Played the semi open fourball in Lucan on Wednesday with the old man, and we managed 45 points between us. Was disappointed to lose out overall on the last 3 but always nice to get something. I made 6 birdies, including the index 2 8th (my outside shot) and made par on the index 1 14th, equating to 8 shots gained. Dad contributed 3 pointers at 1,11 and 13
and saved 2 pointers a couple of times when I was out of the hole. We'll rue two bogey 4s on 7 and 16, but when I birdied 17 and 18, I really thought we'd done enough to win. Oh well, maybe next time!

The final medal of the year was yesterday and again played decent to shoot a +1 72 off 2, good enough to win the gross prize. Got off to an average start, 3 putting the 1st for bogey but got that back with a nice 2 at 4 and also birdied 5, knocking it stone dead from a greenside bunker. A poor bogey at 6 was followed by a poxy thinned 7 iron into 7, but the ball wound up 2 feet from the hole:birdie! Played steadily thereafter, parring 8 through 11 with reasonable chances for birdies on each hole but found major trouble on 12 and 13. Average, but not awful, drives ended up in terrible spots; on 12, I was stuck just under a tree left and was lucky to get it out sideways, from where I made an irritating bogey 5. On 13, my ball lay cradled between a tree and its root. I tried to pop it out sideways with a putter but only moved it about 4 feet and wound up with a 6. My fourth dropped shot in 3 holes came on 14 after driving left and only barely managed to stop the rot on 15 with a 6 footer for par, after getting frisky with my first putt. I then made a very good 14 footer on 16 to save par after a wild tee shot to leave me at 3 over par standing on the 17th tee. I figured I had to replicate Wednesday's birdie-birdie finish
to have any chance of winning something and I gave myself a chance for better than that when I fired my second shot with a 5 wood to 8 feet into the par 5. Missed the putt unfortunately, but played 18 perfectly, with a great drive, a 5 iron and a lob wedge to 6 feet, which (just barely) decided to drop!

Handicap back down to 1.9, the lowest its been in 2 and a half years. Still lots to work on but has been an encouraging year to date.
