79 (+6, nett 76) in a pissing gale this am in our medal

Decent couple of games recently, even picked up a couple of prizes!

Played the semi open fourball in Lucan on Wednesday with the old man, and we managed 45 points between us. Was disappointed to lose out overall on the last 3 but always nice to get something. I made 6 birdies, including the index 2 8th (my outside shot) and made par on the index 1 14th, equating to 8 shots gained. Dad contributed 3 pointers at 1,11 and 13
and saved 2 pointers a couple of times when I was out of the hole. We'll rue two bogey 4s on 7 and 16, but when I birdied 17 and 18, I really thought we'd done enough to win. Oh well, maybe next time!

The final medal of the year was yesterday and again played decent to shoot a +1 72 off 2, good enough to win the gross prize. Got off to an average start, 3 putting the 1st for bogey but got that back with a nice 2 at 4 and also birdied 5, knocking it stone dead from a greenside bunker. A poor bogey at 6 was followed by a poxy thinned 7 iron into 7, but the ball wound up 2 feet from the hole:birdie! Played steadily thereafter, parring 8 through 11 with reasonable chances for birdies on each hole but found major trouble on 12 and 13. Average, but not awful, drives ended up in terrible spots; on 12, I was stuck just under a tree left and was lucky to get it out sideways, from where I made an irritating bogey 5. On 13, my ball lay cradled between a tree and its root. I tried to pop it out sideways with a putter but only moved it about 4 feet and wound up with a 6. My fourth dropped shot in 3 holes came on 14 after driving left and only barely managed to stop the rot on 15 with a 6 footer for par, after getting frisky with my first putt. I then made a very good 14 footer on 16 to save par after a wild tee shot to leave me at 3 over par standing on the 17th tee. I figured I had to replicate Wednesday's birdie-birdie finish
to have any chance of winning something and I gave myself a chance for better than that when I fired my second shot with a 5 wood to 8 feet into the par 5. Missed the putt unfortunately, but played 18 perfectly, with a great drive, a 5 iron and a lob wedge to 6 feet, which (just barely) decided to drop!

Handicap back down to 1.9, the lowest its been in 2 and a half years. Still lots to work on but has been an encouraging year to date.

Great shooting. Super end to the year

88 net 73 in Knockanally yesterday in Intermediate scratch cup. Came 4th in the end. Poxy front 9, took 49 shots including an 8 at the first. superb back 9- started with 3 bogies then 6 straight pars for a 39 back 9. And cut 0.6....:)

87 strokes today in a fupping gale, too many putts 36 in total. 7 pars 8 bogey's 1 double & 2 trebles. Bad holes were straight into the wind. :-)

played Saturday in knockanally scratch cup . was full of confidence standing on the first tee after 4 good rounds in a row .
I pulled my tee shot on 1 and that's about as good as it got finished in 85 strokes on a beautiful day with no wind .
course was in lovely condition with a great variety in holes and a joy play .

A day where a tidy short game got me round. Fought the driver the whole way but pleased with how I kept it going and was quite consistent regardless. Hole 16 should say 'picked up' - was stapleford.

72 Strokes in the semi open in Lucan last night. A very average round with bogies on 4,10 & 14 was rescued by birdies on 17 & 18. Managed to win the gross prize but lost the fiver to Benicetomonty:mad:

Birdieing the last two holes to clip me by 1 for aforementioned gross will, I'm sure, provide adequate solace! Very enjoyable game yesterday overall though, even if we both left a few out there.

73 gross, +2, off 2 handicap for me. Uneventful round; disappointing bogey on 1 was followed by 8 pars. some of which were welcome, others not so much, including a missed 3 footer for birdie on 9. Made a 25 footer for par on 10 though which helped, before 3 putting 13.

I hit 2 very good shots into 14 on my way to parring the index 1, then finally made a birdie on 15, courtesy of a 3 wood and a lob wedge to 4 feet. Gave that straight back on 16 though with a poor bogey and was unable to stave off PDE's birdie birdie charge, as I closed with 2 par 5s.

Drove it fairly well, made a few putts, missed a few; 73 pretty much what I deserved.

Hi Guys, Had to share this.
Played Carton House - Mongomerie Course today for first time. Had a Mixed bag. Driving good, chipping and putting poor. Had 34 points off 13 handicap with two scratches off the white tees.

But the reason I' posting is for this, my buddy Eoin decided to video me in the greenside bunker on the 5th hole, the Par 4, Index 1.
Made an unreal Birdie, great video to have, it'll make me smile for some time to come!!!!

Love it, great video. Would love to hear that on bbc, all polite and the queens English until the ball drops then a big thick paddy accent cursing as it drops.

Made me laugh, thanks for posting

There's a lot of lads on here who won't be happy with the phone being out on the golf course :)

    Well done though

Not getting to play as much as I'd like this year and have been struggling to get 36 points because of it.

Went out this afternoon to grange castle though and shot 75 gross.

That included being -2 after the front 9 before a slight hiccup with bogey bogey on 11 and 12 and then a lost tee shot on 15 where I had to hit 3 off the tee and got a 6.

Putter was on fire and I just totted my putts up there and to my astonishment I only took 9 putts on the front 9 holes and 13 on the back 9!!!!

98 strokes off back tees. Couldn't tell you what went wrong, I guess every thing. Over the last few weeks I've changed the setup, hitting the irons well but longer, haven't got hang of it yet. Worst round of the year by a long shoot

Haven't been out for a while. Usually don't embarrass myself too bad. If I can get a par on a hole, that's a good one.

Had 40 points in a society outing in Woodstock yesterday. It was good enough to take 1st place. Played solid from the first tee box and played steady golf the whole way round.

Didn't think he was asking for a ruling? (besides -looked like he was only shooing an insect away).

Maybe you should have spent more time enjoying what was an entertaining video and a fantastic bunker shot.

U can remove a stone from the bunker, you just can't test the sand

Only if there is a local rule permitting it.

Most clubs have a local rule stating stones are movable obstructions I think

Sorry 'Slegs' Have a look at the video again buddy, I was trying to wave the bee/wasp off my ball, the little bugger didn't want to move. I didn't touch the ball or remove anything from the bunker.

Some other numpty tweeted me to say I grounded the club, jaysus some begrudgers, I didn't do that either...

Only posted the video cause the shot was good but the commentary from Eoin was Better!!

p.s. Well spotted 'Snowdrifts', thank you

Coming into form just in time for the Captains Prize! Are you playing the outing or going to the match or both?

Hard luck to Mayo. Dublin seemed to be the better team though.

34 points today in a competition in Ballykisteen. First round in a few weeks after an injury. Still not 100% but had to try it out today to see if I'd be able to hit it next Saturday. Like yourself I had 17/17. Finished 11th overall. No money changed hands in the fourball. We were all square on the last tee box when my partner said only a birdie would be alloweed to win the money. Course I parred it, my partner bogeyed and the other best the lads we were playing against could manage was a double bogey - the one bad hole they had all day!
