You're right but that review has a bit too much arse licking to be taken seriously.

But it is a excellent album, probably one of the best albums of the year. I wouldn't be surprised to see it win a few of the best albums of the year awards at the end of the year. I doubt people would have complained if Arcade Fire got that 10/10 review.

'Fireside' is an absolute blinder, listened to it loads of times already. The whole album is though, the only song I can't take to is 'Mad Sounds', one of Turners more boring sounding acoustics IMO. But a high quality album throughout.

I love Mad sounds, one of the many highlights on the album. One thing about the album that really makes it perfect is the production by James Ford and Ross Orton, damn it sounds so slick and sexy.

This album is so good, can't remember the last time I put an album on album and it just rocked in every way. This album makes me feel like when I got the debut album on the week of its release, you know you're listening to a special band.

It's not a bad song by any means, it's just not one of his strongest acoustic ones IMO. A lot of the 'Submarine' ones were better.

    Great album though.

There's literally nothing acoustic about Mad Sounds.

I've been waiting a long time for this album.

I have not been disappointed, up there with the latest efforts of QOTSA, Nick Cave and the National....

    Loving Snap Out Of It

Bit of a strange one but listening to this album made me want to rewatch Submarine, the soundtrack by Alex Turner is one of the best.

Maybe not the right word but I'm sure you knew what I meant without posting that. The word 'literally' literally isn't needed there either.

I've had a few listens to the album and it's very enjoyable. This band don't do boring albums!
Always happens though, you're walking down the street listening to a new album, enjoyable a brand spanking new song by a band you like then out of nowhere, somebody comes and hits you with a uh la la la ,Uh la la la ,Uh la la la, uh Uh la la!

    :D

    Really enjoying it :D

The album doesn't get boring, I know it's a little early to say this but this could be their masterpiece. Not a duff track on it plus that production is amazing and Matt's and Nick's backing vocals just add that coolness R n B vibe to it. One for the road or Snap out of it have to be singles.

Its the only thing I've listened to for the last 5 days. Gets better with every listen.

the first third and final third of the album are excellent in my opinion although i think they might have over used falsetto a small bit making it less effective!

Nah it's perfect to be honest. Helder's is the hero of this album with his Falsetto.

I'd agree somewhat with this. It definitely gives a distinct sound to the album, but I think it's over used. I do like the piano used on this album, as far as I know there's been no Arctic's tracks with an acoustic piano before (though I may be wrong.) The drumming is quite tame in sections of this album compared with others, not a negative thing at all and Helders smashes 'em up nicely on "R U Mine?"
I don't think it's a 10/10 album like the brown nosing NME review, but it is a great album. I've said it before, they've never made a boring album. I don't think this is their masterpiece though.

How did this not make it onto the album

What a cover. Excellent version. For Radio 1's Live Lounge.

    Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
And repeat for 4 more days.

That's all I've been doing, what an album. Knee Socks is so good it gives me shivers everytime.

Completely agree about Knee Socks, though the rest of the album is just equally amazing.

Agree with the general consensus in here. Have been listening to this album constantly for a week now. It's an absolute cracker. I want it all and fireside (both of which are still good tunes) are the only ones that I don't love. The other ten tunes are magic.

Remember reading a review about FWN that said you could strip out everything but Helder's drumming and it'd still be a riveting listen. I'd apply that to AM too. That Drake cover is something special too.

Having seen him at EP and Oxegen 06 you can see how Turner has grown as a frontman. Leaning far too much towards the Bono-esque self indulgent nonsense but I'll forgive him that for now.

They're a band I'd ignored pretty much since FWN, just didn't 'get' Humbug, but now I'm catching up again. I love them. They're the band of my generation.

Should definitely give 'Humbug' another go, a really superb album. Probably the best they have constructed songs on any album they have done, including the new one.

Only got this yesterday so havent listened to it for that long but I'd definitely agree with that. The harmonies are fantastic. Loving 'knee socks' and 'snap out of it' so far.

I never really listened to Humbug or Suck It And See but after listening to this I've gotten stuck into them as well. They are both great.

A band that I never fully enjoyed their first albums, but as they got further into their career they churn out better albums. Maybe thats just cos im a huge Josh Homme fan. This album is a cracker, I love listening to it.

Loved their first albums but as a band they've grown so much into a far more world beating act, there's a bit of swagger to them. Turner had turned into a strutting front man and the music has changed on so many occasions. Willing to take risks which has bought them back into the mainstream with AM their fifth album.

Pretty much exactly this. damn cool swagger with the tunes to match it.

I don't know their previous albums but AM is stuck on my playlist for past 2 weeks. Can't get enough of it.

Sit in a dark room on your own with a set of headphones and listen to Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not from beginning to end.

    You won't regret it.
