How do you get to your favourites list?

You set a favorite in the guide by clicking on when on a channel and going down to 'Add to Favorites'

To View them They're the the first channels in the guide and have a star beside them.

please sort out the navigation speed in the guide and menus.
I cant believe how slow it is to respond when scrolling. ruining the whole thing imo.

We need a software update asap

I cant get my box to play subtitles over DLNA when the subtitles are contained in an additional .srt file. Ive tried Twonky, Windows media player and Serviio. This is a problem for me as my kid speaks two languages and I try play stuff with subtitles when I can.

If I have subtitles turned on in the settings menu I can watch the subtitles that are encoded into a movie.

and of course movies with burnt in subtitles are grand

    Thanks for reply,
I've found DLNA server that is streaming subtitles as well, it's called Plex, anyone know if Horizon box works with Plex?

My box is delivered today, I will give it a go tonight with Plex and other DLNAs

I had Plex but its Horrible Horrible software that uses huge amounts of resources and took ages to configure anything that was simple and intuitive in other softwares. Unless you're a fan of secondrate open source linux programs ported to windows Id say its not worth the hassle.

I also use Tversity as my main DLNA\UPNP server but Horizon doesnt seem to work well with that at all.

Thanks, I will give it a try anyways,

Now, the box was delivered yesterday, connected it at 6pm and got error 1090,rang tech support, was told to turn off and back On, didn't do the job so I rang again, the other guy said to wait 2-3 h and should be ok, he promised to ring me before 9 PM to check but I didn't get any calls, surprise surprise!! :)of course error was still there. I noticed that computer got IP from DHCP, so I logged in to admin portal and I saw public IP for cable modem and Internet connection, so all good with hardware and cables. I rang this morning ,explained in details the situation and was told that service is not active because the system is showing, that the Horizon Box was not delivered to me. The guy said that he is going to change it and advised to check it again after 1 PM. so, I will check it in the evening , but it should be ok I reckon.

Also I asked why I wasn't told this yesterday, he couldn't explained, just apologised. The other thing that I've asked is internet speed, is it going to be upgraded straight away, he said that i will take a few days to change to 150mb.

Conclusion: if you get error 1090, check if you get public IPs in admin portal, call tech support to activate service on their end ( they will ask for box serial number), check internet speed after few days if you've asked for an upgrade

Any other recommendations of DLNA servers ??

    cheers

I'm not sure on this so maybe someone else can throw some light on it, but is it possible that the slower response of the remote is down to the fact that it's operating via wi-fi rather than IR?

It doesn't bother me too much, btw, Horizon is still vastly superior in every respect to the old box.

It doesn't operate over Wi-Fi, It Operates over RF and the TV buttons (power, source, volume up and down) work via IR.

Anyone managed to schedule a recording from www.horizon.tv website?

It never works for me. If I try from website I usually get this mail:
We would like to advise you that unfortunately your request could not be completed and therefore the recording will not take place.

There are several reasons that can cause a request to fail and these include your Digital+ set top box being powered off or that we were unable to make contact with your Digital+ set top box.

If you still wish to record this show please do so using your UPC remote. Alternatively, you can try scheduling another recording using remote record from UPC but please ensure your digital+ set top box is powered on or in standby mode.

Wonder whats wrong? Can someone please try and let me know? Thanks

Does anyone know how to play a full album, be it a music album or a photo album, rather than just one track or photo? I have tried with Twonky and Servio, but with both I can only play one at a time. I can't scroll through a photo album.

    Cheers.

If you go in through 'My devices' you can only view and play single tracks, videos and Pictures.

If you have media scanning turned on (which is not advised if you have a large media library) you can use 'My Music' and 'My Pictures' to play albums and slideshows.

'My home network videos' doesn't seem to work at all regardless of what DLNA server I use. Always says there is no videos on my network but I can find and play videos in 'My Devices'

I've managed to get it to work eventually. It's a horrible interface and so slow - its no wonder UPC offer 100Mbps broadband cos you need every bit of it to navigate to 8 hours in the future in less than half an hour.

Also, why do they only offer apps for iphone. Cmon UPC, there are some android users out there.

How did you manage to get it working? It's still not working for me. Any setting needs to be enabled?

True, they should do something for Android. All my devices are android. It's a shame they only have an app for Iphone.

    Hi
Can anyone tell me whether there's such a drive or device I can buy that can stream to the box without a computer turned on?
I have an Apple TV also which I know needs a computer on cause it needs to run through iTunes but was hoping maybe there's such thing as a drive that just connects to wifi and I can put movies on it from a computer, turn off computer and play through horizon or atv?

yea, a NAS that has wifi and DLNA would suit your needs. Basically its a small low power computer that just acts are a network share for your files. You can map a drive to it from your own computer and just drag and drop your files onto it.

I'm on My third box now, they said that there is a glitch with the software and the HDMI ( I started getting "Snow" then it just gave up on me) Only the scart would work. The new "New" box is working fine now but I still cant get the twonky to work with windows 8 so it's old fashioned cable link up for now. I have completely given up on the Horizon app, just too glitchy, But i hear the Ipad version works fine. I have been using Filmon.tv for now , and You get more channels on that.

You should be able to see all your calls on UPC.ie, just plogonto your account.
Also I find that asking the guys/gals on the facebook page answers a lot of questions :)

Got the box last week. Immediately had an issue with the sound cutting out intermittently on all channels. Got so bad I couldn't watch TV.

Tried connecting by HDMI through my amp, HDMI direct from the TV, scart, optical etc. Same issue each time. Got a replacement box this morning and same issue again. Was then told by support it was because I wasn't using the HDMI cable that came with the box (their's must be special).

Told them I wanted to revert back to my previous package and was told I had to pay 80euro to get my old equipment back!! Eh not happening! Finally resolved and I'm getting the old HD box and modem back on Thursday. Cannot wait. This Horizon is obviously not ready for mass launch.

NAS hard drive will definitely work. I use a Seagate goflex NAS and it works perfect. Also if your atv is a 2nd generation unit I thoroughly recommend jailbreaking it using fire core. The media player software that you can then then put on it is great. Just put everything on the NAS, turn off the computer and stream away. I know you can do this through the Horizon box but if you do jailbreak the user interface on the atv is so much easier and more intuitive to use.

Interesting. Had similar-ish problems with HDMI (in my case, video was cutting out sporadically). Eventually figured out that the Horizon box doesn't work well with HDMI switches - nor did the previous UPC Cisco box. Other devices (360, PS3, AppleTV) work fine with the same switch.

Very disappointed with the response from UPC though; 'oh, there's a 3rd party device involved? Ok, issue resolved. Nothing to see here.'

In my case, plugging directly into the AV receiver instead of into the HDMI switch worked.

thanks, yeah i just got a loan of a wd mybook live 3tb drive and was a bit confused at first as the horizon box wont find any existing networks through ethernet (it just plugs directly into back of horizon box).
Then i realised its showing up in my devices but as you said, the interface isn't great. I only put on a fraction of my media and it took me ages to scroll to bottom of list.
And yep my atv is 2nd gen so i think i might try out your suggestion. :)

There is Parental Control in the Horizon Router
You can create a Password to lock controls
You can create Web Site Filters
    Time Filters
Device control and Mac access control

None of this actually works. Don't waste your time trying to configure. UPC say they are not implementing it.
