There was a famous case with Boyd Coddington a few years ago, it happens all over the world.

The thing is most of these countries have legislation that takes into account the interests of car enthusiasts.
Releasing unissued age related plates in Ireland would not be a big deal, I don't know why they cant do it?

Ireland also has legislation that take into account car enthusiasts. I for one think that the system is more than fair.I have imported cars, paid taxes , and registered these cars correctly. The "Classic" road tax at a reduced rate, is not much of a burden to the CC fraternity. We are in danger of loosing this concession by abuse of the system. To ignore these cheats , we would be giving approval. Issuing "Age related plates" would do nothing to stop these people, rock the boat, expose the cheats for what they are.!!!!!

How about this - like the 'problem' here of laundered diesel (that doesn't exist elsewhere in the EU

) , IF the govt ironed out regulations that cause all this evasion then perhaps the govt would get more tax/save on paying agents to catch evaders and the economy might take off again ? This reg/tax problem exists because there's such a huge gap between vintage and youngtimers - have a sliding scale of road tax and the problem would fizzle out :rolleyes:

quite right I guess....give green diesel users a rebate annually and charge them full price at the pumps and that problem is gone....make road tax cheap in increments (say 10 20 and 30 yrs old) and the temptation to cheat the system is reduced.

Yes as well as having a sliding scale on road tax they should give a 2 year nct to cars 20 years old to vintage as most 20 year old cars dont get much use . eg : the car collecter who has the merc or jag with the big engine that only gets 3 months tax a year 500 to 1000 mls a year & is asked to nct it again. money racket.

No there wouldn't.
The bastard ZVs and the even worse year plates now would make anyone try and ring an old car!

All the minister for making idiotic motoring decisions has to do is ring me up and ill have it sorted in a week or so.

To be fair, some of these are genuine though, but some aren't.

They are horrible bastards to drive anyway, cheap tax would be no incentive to drive one!

ZV 53288 comes up as a 1978 white Rover P5 !

To be precise, the P5B is a Rover 3.5 saloon/coupe , the P6 was the Rover 3500 (pronounced 3 thousand 5

)

Given our wonderful local authorities it's VERY possible that they mixed up the P5B and the new (at the time) Range Rover :P

The tax disc on my Mustang says model unknown, but yet the model name was given to them, and is correct on the registration document.

The POSSIBILITY is a Range Rover chassis with a Disco Td5 body put on it. Land Rover is correct as manufacturer of all of them, the parent company being at that time Rover

Did anyone bother to read what I posted?? I ran the reg and it came up with a Range Rover chassis number, so it is a Range Rover not a P5. Also the description is stating that its ROVER P5B RANGE 5DR. As we are all aware the way the revenue entered details on the system was highly negligible.

If this guy can make a living making a product that customers want within the confines of the law then why begrudge him? Its unusual not illegal.

Is everyone jealous of this man or what? Sometime you wonder are some of the posts on this forum liable or slanderous given what some owners are being accused of.

this man is clearly converting these as part of his living so why wouldn't he do it correctly especially given how easy it is to do right. the legalities are simple in that the Reg No. and Tax book belong to the chassis and ANYTHING that bolts onto that chassis can be exchanged/changed for new parts including body parts.

the way i read it is that the points above are asking if this is really a range rover? but whats the pisstaking ? improving a good design with reliability and fuel effeciency?
