No reason why not so long as the box firmware recognises the adapter and has the required drivers for it.

Yeah just want to make sure it's reliable and wouldn't be breaking up before I buy one. Somebody hear will be using it/tried it.

Obviously oscam traffic isn't the heaviest at all but I would assume that many people would be quite interested in streaming and would expect this to work. For me, if you want to support / utilize streaming, go with Powerline boxes. There are plenty on DABS.ie from 30 a pair upwards.

So for me, only use wi-fi on mobile devices and go wired for hard wired electrical devices.

Probably won't be using it for streaming much but homeplugs would be handy if I got 1channel working. Probably worth the extra few bob.

Now that i think of it, 1channel never worked for me on your open ar-p image, have you had any luck with it on hyperion2?

Home plugs are the only real option for streaming.
I could never get streaming to work properly over wifi ,it kept on breaking up ,even sd programmes.
Got some home plugs and its way way better.

I laid down Cat6 network cable from my Alien2 connected to the TV in the living room to the router in the kitchen. I also changed my Eircom BB router to a 802.11n class Billion 7800n and it streams SD and HD channels over wifi to my laptop wherever I am in the house.

It's like having a second TV and with the same channel selection on both since when I use Enigma2 AR-P the TV and laptop can display the full range of channels independantly of each other. It's a handy little box :)

I also had the same issue with 1channel on the same ar-p image.
If you apply the fix from the Amiko Alien2 - Enigma2 Firmware thread #22, posted by NUTZZ, the issue will be resolved for you.
I have applied the fix on both ar-p and hyperion 2 with no issues - no more green screen crashes!

BTW thanks to NUTZZ for posting the fix.

Sorry as this is such a long thread I need a synopsis, basically I have just bought one of these (triple tuner) and want to know what the best image would be, I am moving from a dm500 and a feeesat+ box so am used to flashing liniux boxes, I will be using it with a c-line shared from a dreambox on the same network, want 7 day EPG, series link (equivalent), also some info on external hdd (compatibility wise) would be good, best cam to use? Etc any other relevant info would be great and appreciated,

Also any links to available images or a sites I should be checking out.

Typing from the phone so I'll keep it short, one of the best images at the moment is boards user championc's own backup image that he has shared with us. Smoothest image I've come across and he has all the series link, cam, Rte player etc plug in already installed.

The link is in the AA2 firmware thread but I'm not sure the link is working. Let me know if it's not and I'll send you on my link to it.

I've had a few problems with this image, rte player and icefilms would crash (green screen). I posted this a few pages back - don't know if it's something I have set up wrong or not?

I personally like the Hyperion 2 image. It has the 7 day EPg, series link equivalent, timeshift, IPTV,loads of plugins, skins, etc. Very little crashes. Only crashes i every really experienced is when i'd be going fast through the downloaded plugins putting pressure on the box. Apart from that it's good. My HDD is a Samsung M3 portable, works perfectly, as you don't have to wait for it to spin up or anything.

Where did you get the hyperion 2 image, I'll give it a shot.

Has anyone got a copy of an hyperion 2 image with all the usual plugins installed? Would like to try it out but seems like too much hassle to set up from scratch.

I'll try and sort it out tonight for you :)

It's on linuxsat. Just go to service searching when installed and change tuner c equal to tuner b and go from there.

All plugins are there just to be downloaded, but in fairness the image is pretty good to go.

Good to go it certainly is. Installed just now and liking it a lot so far. Loads of plugins installed and best of all a version of permanent time shift that doesn't display a message every time you change channel. That's reason enough for me to change. Just to install auto timer and I'm sorted.

They had a banner at the top of the site earlier about that, they're having technical issues. I only glanced at it but I think it said to try log in from the homepage as opposed to the page I linked to.

Seems the image contains an old version of auto bouquets, haven't had any look installing the new version either. Hopefully championc will come to the rescue with his latest backup!

Here's a link to my complete Hyperion-2 based Image

    https://app.box.com/s/a7z674n3l1skndqjg9yx

This image is working with the following plugins:-
AutoTimer, AutoVolumeAdjustment, AutoBoquets, CrossEPG, CoolTVGuide, 1channel, Icefilms, Various Skins, all Picons, Time from NTP, OSCam (blank - no line), SDA1 mounted as HDD, OpenWebIf, Streaming channels separate from one being watched - yipee, SambaServer, PermanentTimeShift and IPTV Updater v1.1.

You can obviously install any other plugins you choose. I've updated the Enigma2 thread.

Don't forget to click the Thanks button below :)

    Hi All,

I am currently on SKY but that will be stopped on the 17th of this month. Been looking at various set top boxes and have a few questions about the Alien. If these answers are in the thread, I am really sorry, it's such a long thread and didn't read through it.

Here are my questions, if someone could answer them that would be great.

    1. Is it possible to get 7 day epg on Saorview channels and freesat channels on this box?

    2. Is there anything like series link that works on these?

    3. I understand there is a bit of setting up involved, that's not a problem, but once it's setup is it relatively easy to use?

    4. I have read that the VIX image is the closest to the look and feel of a sky box. Is this the case? Or is the enigma 2 image the best one?

    5. Recording and timeshift, is it possible to do both to a NAS? I mean if I have a NAS will I need to get an internal drive or USB drive? I am hoping that I don't and the NAS will work.

At the moment I have no interest in any of the media player functions or any of the internet applications like youtube or rte player. I just want to be able to watch TV and record.

    @reaper12

    1. Yeah

    2.Yeah it's called AutoTimer

    3. Yeah just takes a bit of getting used to but after a couple of days and you know where everything is its very easy to use

    4. Never used vix images so can't comment

    5. NAS recording and timeshift is possible, a few people here have it set up.

I did this a number of months ago - I am using the GM Triplex box (same thing) and am very happy.
I use it for the Saorview and fta Satellite (Freesat) channels only.

my family is very happy with its ease of use, I tried the HDMU images first - as per pogs guide - and am currently using championc's AR-P image posted here.

the only crashes I have experienced in the recent past are when using streaming (inwards) and other more advanced features, and at that only occasionally - ie no problems when watching TV and recording/playback.
Most reports of instability that I have seen are pretty old and out of date as far as I am concerned.

Thank you, I am just reading about these and they seem great for some people, bad for others. It does everything I need but I am just a little concerned that it might be buggy. Your answers have cleared a few things up for me.

WEll that's good news, because I am thinking of getting the GM triplex box myself :)
