Have we got many Anime fans on After Hours?

being the big weeaboo I am, it's no surprise I'm quite the anime fan. I've a lot of friends who are quite the anime nerds too, and I think I've also converted the other half, who's really been enjoying watching shows like Fullmetal Alchemist and Elfen Lied

but I find it a little odd that there doesn't seem to be as many anime fans on boards, or at least they don't talk about it much. the anime & manga forum right now is like a place tumbleweeds go to die. since there's such a big overlap between anime fandom and general nerdiness, you'd expect there'd be a lot more interest?

So I thought I'd ask AH!
Do you like anime?
If so what shows/movies are your favourites?
What genres do you go for?
And if you're not too familiar with anime, what are your impressions of it/the fandom? would you like to get into it?

Currently we're watching Monster, which is a psychological thriller about a Japanese neurosurgeon living in Dusseldorf, Germany, who saves the life of a little boy who's been shot in the head. 3 of the senior staff at the hospital are murdered and the little boy goes missing, with the Japanese doctor suspected. years later he's suspected of a series of brutal serial murders of middle-aged couples, and goes on the run from police to try and piece together what's happening himself. not even half way through it yet, but it's such a dark show and draws you in so much.

Hey Links!

I remember watching a show on channel 4 years ago.

It was about 4 brothers and they had the ability to turn into big fuck off dragons if they got angry.

I think the dragons each represented one of the four elements - earth, water, fire and wind.

Any idea what I'm talking about?

it's supposed to be insulting or derogatory, and came about from people on 4chan messing about with filtering words, so instead of 'Wapanese' it came out as weeaboo and it's stuck ever since. herself kept calling me a weeaboo, so I've just rolled with it since

Links, you have totally converted me to Anime :P

You know, if you want to cut your theet on anime, I'd watch the romance/humor oriented ones.

I've read YA, and if you're a woman and you like that, then I'd say you'll find an anime you'd enjoy.

And if you're a guy and you've never really had a storyline where a 16 year old has been acting like an awkward James Bond, then you'll definitely find something to watch.

EDIT:

Ps, you can usually find manga online, but check it on wikipedia if you haven't heard of it before.

Eeek!! I'm so happy I found this thread!!
I consider myself quite the otaku when it comes to anime and recently manga!
I've watched the alot of the popular amines such as naruto, bleach, death note, code geass and others such as shakugan no Shana, DNAngel, air etc
I'm thinking of starting Attack on Titan now aswell!

you know, I could never get into Eva... going to try at some point, but I just couldn't stand Shinji as a main character, and I was never really into mecha either, so I didn't get through it at all.

hi Keith the show is "Sohryuden: Legend of the Dragon Kings" I was shown in the UK under the title of The Legend of the Four Kings.

I am in to mainly mecha Animes such as Gundam, Macross, Zoids.

Cowboy Bebop got me into anime but I remember watching Guyver on Channel 4 years ago. Haven't been following much recently though, but did take a quick look at Sword Art Online not too long ago.

I watch some stuff, but not a lot of it really. Seen shows like Deathnote, Detroit Metal City, a few episodes of Naruto (but it didn't really appeal to me), and then the ones that were shown on Cartoon Network and the like when I was a kid such as Dragonball Z.

Yeah about a year or so ago I used to watch a lot. I kind of lost interest and I haven't really gotten back into the genre. I did watch the three Evangelion rebuild films fairly recently and there are a few shows I do want to check out/finish. I used to read a lot of manga too, I had spent 300 odd euro and had 60 or so volumes, collected over the course of about two years. I'd buy more but they can get pretty pricey, and some series are so long

Cowboy Bebop is just incredible, one of the best shows ever

that's what I love about anime, a lot of time they've just got such a solid storyline and reach a conclusion or resolution. you couldn't get a more perfect ending than Bebop, and it really stays with you. I hate a show that just keeps on going until it's worn out whatever spark it had to begin with

^ I love Bebop too, the thing about it is that seems episodic, but you can start to string things together towards the end.

Shinji seems like a real kid with real problems. Sure, it may be nice to imagine Kamina of Gurren Lagann slapping him in the face and ordering him to grow some balls, but that would shatter whatever realism Evangelion's characters have.

I'm really into it (as well as manga and j/kdrama). My favourites are Studio Ghibli, Kuro****suji, Maria Holic, Adekan (manga). Mostly romance, comedy etc. Anyone recently watch 'Aku no hana'? Weird af, the manga is even more ****ed up..but I like it.

Didn't see Gurren Lagann either

There's actually a lot I've not watched, especially some of the more popular ones.

I plan to watch the Rebuild of Eva at some point though, but I don't know, I couldn't sit through the series.

I remember watching a real mad, mad manga film years ago on chnnel 4 that seemed to have mutating demons in it from start to finish. Quite disturbing but maybe that was the drink.

I watched a few episodes of a newer one recently called Demon Butler. Madder than a box of frogs.

Also remember battle of the planets as a kid. Would that even be considered manga?
