I love anime, especially the ones released by manga entertainment in the 90's,some real classic's,such a Akira, ghost in the shell, devilman, angel cop, cyber city oedo 808,fist of the north star, orguss 2,monster city, wicked city,The list goes on and on :D.
I'd be the opposite, I dislike a lot of them because so much was released just because it was ultra-violent. I don't dislike violence, just prefer it if there's a good story to back it up. wicked city was just awful... speaking of which, did you know that in the english dub, the main characters were voiced by a mother and son, giving an extra eewwww factor :pac:

still though, did spot Vampire Hunter D on DVD in a second hand shop here and nearly bought it for old times sake :p
I can't understand why so many people dislike Shinji and look at him as being weak and cowardly. Considering the amount of shít he has to deal with I think he copes as well as anyone would in his position. I always felt really sorry for him. I watched Evangelion this year, it was the first anime series I ever watched and I loved it. Complete mindfúck but really enjoyable. Have watched the first two rebuild films, looking forward to seeing the third. :)

Have since watched a bit of Death Proof and will get back to it when I have a chance. Am hoping to get to Berserk, Cowboy Bebop and Elfen Lied at some point.

Another anime I love is Kogepan; a series of 10 4-minute shorts about a depressed bread roll.....no, seriously! :D

I don't know, and honestly I do like the idea of someone who's extremely reluctant to put themselves through so much pain and agony, so I don't think he's cowardly. I just think he was annoying and could've been handled better. that said, I actually managed to finally get around to watching the first rebuild of Evangelion and left feeling very satisfied, so yay :D

Death Proof, did you mean Death Note?

and yes, Kogepan is awesome, especially if you're trying to learn Japanese because it's aimed at kids and the dialogue is slow and simple. you could easily pick up a few things ;)

Yes and it's awesome, but does kinda tend to drag things out in places.

FMA and Trigun are awesome. I actually have to watch Trigun again from the start with my other half, so she can experience how awesome it is too :D also heard a lot of good things about Sword Art Online, so must check that out too at some point ;)

Oops, yup that's the one I meant. :o I watched about five or six episodes before college work and other assorted bothersome pursuits distracted me. I love the plot of it, my only criticism is that it seems to move a bit too fast. Seems like it only takes two or three episodes before
Light turns into an evil little fúcker - would have been nice to see a more three-dimensional side to him where he actually feels conflicted or guilty about writing people to death.

It's alright... been watching it on CrunchyRoll off the 360. The animation and backgrounds are done nicely, but the storyline is 'meh'.

It gets pretty predictable though, i.e. - Something ALWAYS, and I do mean ALWAYS goes wrong.

Doesn't help that first 5 minutes of EVERY episode treats you as if you got the memory of a gold fish - recapping what happened last week, then the 2 minute long intro. Effectively makes each episode pretty short.

Finally got to see The Girl Who Leapt Through Time the other week. Would have been more impressive if it hadn't been the dubbed version, mind.

I love anime! Unfortunately I find it hard to get the time to watch much these days because my wife doesn't really like subtitles (and dubs are for peasants :P). Recently I've watched Devil Survivor 2 and Rumbling Hearts and I'm re-watching Bebop.

    Some of my favourites include:
    • Evangelion (the first series I ever watched, along with Martian Successor Nadesico on Saiko Exciting)
    • Revolutionary Girl Utena (anything that has a song that yells "Ammonite!" has to be good, although at 39 episodes it's around my upper limit)
    • Azumanga Daioh (I'm proud/ashamed to say that I've been told more that once that I'm the real life Osaka)
    • Haibane Renmei (Gah! So many feels!)

Still havent seen that, really must get to it soon!

I try to avoid dubs, I'm still watching monster with herself and one time I'd forgotten to set the language to Japanese with English subs and oh dear she squealed no no no! It was horrific. I don't avoid dubs to be a purist or anything like that, its just that they can be so absolutely horrible all the time, like the English voice actors can't even take it seriously. Very few dubs I can even stomach :o

Yeah! So I thought all anime was meant to be like that for a while. I was mightily confused when I went to college and the anime soc was showing the likes of Ah! My Goddess and Love Hina ;) . But apart from maybe Serial Experiments Lain I don't think any series has given me quite so many WTF feelings as Eva. Every time I finish it I go "Ah, okay I get it now" and then the next time I go "Wait, what?" all over again.

Yeah love anime, need to watch it more often. I I'm gnerally guarantted an entertaining time watching it, especially sticking on a film with a weird and fantastical plot.

I have watched most of the studio ghibli films and loved every one but I wouldn't know a thing about any other anime.

Well, if you'd be more into movies than a whole TV show, there's a couple of prominent anime filmmakers you could look into:

    Makoto Shinkai
    -Voices of a Distant Star
-The Place Promised in Our Early Days
    -5 Centimeters Per Second
    -Children Who Chase Lost Voices

    Mamoru Hosada
-The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
    -Summer Wars
    -Wolf Children

    Satoshi Kon
    -Perfect Blue
    -Millennium Actress
    -Tokyo Godfathers
    -Paprika

All very different, but very worthwhile ;)

I missed out on seeing Wolf Children in the cinema, so hoping to get it on bluray for christmas :D

supposedly it's one to look out for if you're a Ghibli fan ;)

When I was a kid, it didn't bother me. Marine Boy and Battle of the Planets are the ones that stand out from my childhood. I'm informed that the original BotP were quite violent and that the US versions censored all those scenes and replaced them with the "cute" characters; 7 Zark 7 & 1 Rover 1!

So, I've actually watched the first 2 Rebuild of Evangelion films, and my thoughts so far are W?T?F?

and also, it's really interesting the way in Anime they'll often re-do something if they didn't get it right the first time, like Berserk, FMA, Hellsing...

Asjdsbdjbf ONE OF THE BEST ANIME FILMS I'VE EVER SEEN!!
*ahem* Basically, it's like a Hitchcock thriller- murder, mayhem and intrigue with schizophrenic themes about the price of fame. Haven't seen it in years but I'm definately going to seek it out now that Links has jogged my memory. :D

Watched loads of anime over the last few years. I don't really have the time to watch as much as i'd like anymore but i'd highly recommend the following:

    Cowboy Bebop
    Tengen Toppa Gurren Laagann
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1 & 2
    Hellsing Ulitmate
Berserk (Original and most definitely the new remakes)

Anyone here seen Speedgrapher? I've only caught two episodes but I love the premise: A guy gets kissed by a girl with magic powers and ends up with the ability to make everything he photographs explode! Excellent voice work by Christopher "Vegeta" Sabat in this one.
This thread is making me all nostaligic for my days as an otaku/weeaboo. *sigh*
