I also enjoy ghost in the shell.

If you like that, look up a series called Psycho-Pass, by the same company (Production IG) and kinda has the same vibe and feel to it.

I'm kinda in 2 minds about this: you should watch the rest as AB is a great series but also should'nt because you will wind up curled up in the corner crying at the end. Not that I was......nope.....*cough*

I've just never found cartoons sexy and I find the Japanese way of telling stories boring as ****. They have a thing about young teens scantly clad crying that weirds me out too. Besides, I am unable to grow a neckbeard.

Psycho-Pass is another one that I'm looking out for, really want to see that ;)

I think one of the reasons I stopped watching for a while was because of Bleach and Naruto. Just dragging on for too long and all the fillers. I take a look at manga now and then at this point. Just don't have the time now to watch stuff. Reading is faster
Yup, that's a particular pet hate of mine, so between Bleach, Naruto and One Piece I've just avoided the hell out of them. One Piece has been going since 1999 and has over 600 episodes like

Yup, another show I'll never bother with.

I general prefer more mature storylines anyway, leaning towards sci-fi or horror a lot of times ;)

Hmmmm, on the group chat thing, I found an anime movie called TokYO Grandfather's on vimeo.

It sounds like more of a mature anime than usual.

Did you mean Tokyo Godfathers (not grandfathers), or is this something else?

Because if it's Tokyo Godfathers, it's brilliant. bit of a comedy/drama, such a good movie, laughing one minute then sobbing the next, it gets to you. me and herself watched it at Christmas last year I think, and she loved it too

3 homeless people? Yup, that's the one.

On a side note, I'm surprised there aren't more anime movies on youtube. I seem to be able to find any series I want on it.

Edit: Ahh, its not subbed or dubbed.

Hmmm, maybe there's something similar that isn't limited to Vimeo or Youtube.

Yeah, really great movie! you should see it ;)

perhaps the distributors of the movies are more aggressive with going after uploads of their stuff than TV ones?

This made me laugh quite a lot. Off to watch Demon Overfiend to restore a bit of sanity. Lol

As someone asked above, are there any good ones on Netflix? I am more likely to watch there.

I'm not huge into anime but I do really like some of the Studio Ghibli movies.

Never bothered with One Piece - thankfully. 24 is a pretty good run for most and the 50's on the high size. 600 is just ridiculous.

Last nice movie I got around to watching was Sword of a Stranger, but I must take a look around for more.

Netflix Ireland isn't good for anime, there's a couple of Ghibli movies and Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society. You'd be better off on crunchyroll.

I don't think the Overfiend restores sanity :p

Is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on Netflix? Or maybe Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Darker Than Black or Trigun?

I'd agree, most of what I watch would be around the 24 episode mark, or even shorter. I think that way they've got a story they want to tell, one that will resolve itself instead of dragging out with filler, and be something you'll want to see again. Depends on the show, but some work well with a longer series run.

and I gotta see Sword of the Stranger at some point ;)

    Netflix costs money ;)

I don't think a series will be a problem tbh. Anime Center is pretty good for all but Monster.

It's more a movie that I'm curios about. I did find an english sub of five centimetres per second.

Hmmm, actually, I think I saw a chat thing on animecenter. I'd say there'd be one on crunchyroll?

I first came across Anime over 10 years ago when the Sci Fi channel showed it every Thursday night (Think it was Thursday)

It was really funny because they showed edited hentai movies :pac:
I only found out when, years later, I searched up for a movie I originally watched and boom ... full of cartoon sex. lol.

I haven't watched much anime for a year but here's what I have watched..

    Code Geass
    Elfen Lied
    Full Metal Panic
    Full Metal Alchemist
    Vampire Knight
    Devil May Cry
    Avatar
    Angel Beats
    Fate/Stay Night
    Ouran Highschool Host Club
    Guilty Crown
    Highschool of the Dead
Highschool DXD (Don't judge! It has a nice story)

I know I've left out a lot. I had loads on my watchlist but I just didn't get the time.

Netflix US has some good anime.

Watched a few episodes of that just to see how bad it really was, and oh my it was awful! :pac: fanservice everywhere! I might try finish watching it at some point, more out of curiosity than anything, but that series was almost everything I hated in anime rolled into one horrible package :p

It's a pity, it was a show with good potential and character development, instead tits.

I dunno about that, it seemed to just be juvenile from the get go, a show aimed squarely at teenage boys. there was far too many highschool anime shows as it was, zombies had reached saturation point, so they just crammed tired tropes together with a load of fanservice. awful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭GalwayGuy2

Actually, the characters weren't half bad. I thought the purple haired woman was pretty interesting and cool.

But the fan service really was ridiculous. I read a lot of fantasy and urban fantasy, so I'm kind of used to fan service in novels, but it almost ruined watching it.

I'm going to defend Ecchi a little bit :P It's actually quite funny, and it is kind of like YA paranormal romance. It's actually made me thing a few paranormal romances for the men might fit a gap in the market.

I don't usually watch too much zombie stuff so I don't know I thought it was okay. Not brilliant but okay.

See, that's what annoys me about fanservice, it's not that I'm prudish or anything but it just takes me out of the moment, breaks the immersion in what could be a good story otherwise.

Very true. I guess if the main character is sixteen , they will focus on whatever they are attracted to.

But I kind of hate it when there's a chase/fight/character development scene and they keep putting the camera away from the person's face and to their boobs.
