    Whats that?

If your tv can do 1080 hd then change your refresh rate to 25. Bit of a temp fix for the hd judder. If your tv can only do 720p then you don't have this option. It can be found in the AV settings.

Or what i do is ftp through usr/lib/enigma2/python/plugins/extensions and then transfer them across and reboot.

    Each to their own

Or 7zip Extract them on your PC and ftp the extracted files to the relevant directory. I had instances before where and IPKG INSTALL of the .IPK file failed to install properly but a manual install worked perfectly :)

The Hyperion 2 image also doesnt have the tuner failed issue present on HDMU when you record a satellite channel and switch to Saorview .
Skinswise its much nicer too .

Could be your HDD if it only happens on playbacks. Does it only happen on this image?

It's not the HDD (Samsung M31TB USB 3.0) as it's only an issue with some recordings ....(un)fortunately it's usually the wife's soaps :). I'd tried a different storage device in the past too with no change.

Does it happen on subscription channels or FTA channels or both?

Also are you watching a second channel while recording that other channel? If so, is the channel you're watching a subscription channel or a FTA channel?

    Both..including Saorview.

Generally there'd be another channel running. It could happen, for example, if I'm recording a Saorview channel and watching a subscription channel at the same time.

You need to find out if the program has been recorded with the juddering or whether it is only juddering when doing playback. Your best bet is to copy the TS file down to your PC and play it there

Press the Windows Flag key and R to get the run box and type \\box_ip\hdd

It's recording with the juddering. The Alien shares the recordings over the LAN network using SMB so that I can access them from any of my networked devices.

Just got an email in which Lavatronics are proclaiming that the Alien 2 has "BETTER HD PICTURE QUALITY THAN ANY BROADCOM RECEIVER!"

Definitely not the case with the Enigma 2 side of it ,the HD picture on numerous images is inferior to my Dm800 .
There seems to be alot of sharpness scaling on the SD picture too,its very jagged.
I read on another forum that the display drivers for Enigma 2 on the Alien2/Triplex are old and not optimised hence the average picture quality.

I didn't see much improvement in the picture quality in Spark if I'm honest (tested on a high end plasma too)

I'd be curious as to how other people find the picture quality

I only have a 32" LED so I am probably not the best to comment - but I believe that the picture quality is better than the sky HD box that it replaced, this is particularly noticeable in Spark.
I don't have other boxes to compare

I think that picture quality is dependant on TV size - I can't reliably tell the difference between HD and SD on my TV (that is on Saorview direct into the tv, sky box and on this box - it is a "full HD" TV)

Stupid question time - I have the Amiko & laptop set up to share files (network drive). Is it possible to stream internet content (for example watching a movie on Netflix) from my laptop to the Amiko?

    Thanks.

I am off on holidays in a couple of weeks and I wanted to set the timer on the Spark side of the box to record a few programmes (I dont trust the Enigma side to do it properly :D )

Anyway I cant seem to get the timer working correctly. I set a couple of programmes up this week that would be on every week day and when I went into the time I edited each programme so that it would record "1-5" as opposed to just one time.

I did this on Monday. The programmes recorded on the Monday but not on the Tuesday. I set it up again for Wednesday and the programmes recorded but once again they didnt record on Thursday.

Im just wondering if I am meant to just set up a timer record for each day? Seems a bit silly if I have to considering there is options for Once a day, 1-5, 6&7 and 1 a week as timer recording options.

A timer is a one off event. Enigma is better as it has an autotimers plugin which scans the EPG 7 days ahead on a schedule and adds what it finds as timers

Ah right. Thanks for that. So I would have to add each days programmes as a seperate timer?? Bit of a pain but has to be done I suppose as I dont trust that Enigma will record everything :D

Is the receiver fussy about what type of usb stick is used for the Enigma2 install?

I've followed the attached instructions for doing the update via the FORC boot menu. About a minute after selecting the FACT option in the menu the box displays the "T TO" error message.

I've tried each brand of usb stick that I have (Crucial, Generic, Lacie, SanDisk, TDK, Transcend) with the same result each time.

The image I'm trying to install is the Pkt Hyperion 2 image posted by Zardoz a few weeks ago.

No. Say you want to record Corrie. You tell AutoTimer to scan the TV3 EPG daily for corrie between 19:00 and 21:00. It will then add this to the timer automatically forever more.

So it is very like Series Link in that, if an episode is moved from wed to thur, it will still be picked up (or if it gets scheduled for a later tine). Obviously, it only searches within the window you specify so having an evening window will miss all the omnibus re-runs.

It's even great for programs which maybe have a 10 week run annually. You could setup Denton Abbey as above and it would sit there for the remainder of the year doing nothing until it came around again a year later.

You could go a step further with DynDNS and have remote sccess to the box allowing you to even program the timer while you are away, using Dreamdroid or whatever.

My latest OpenAR-P image has AutoTimer all setup and eorking. Links in previous posts.

** For those who were wondering, my server got fooked up last week but all finally working and smooth again now :)

This is on the Enigma side though I take it? I have Autotimer working fine in Enigma but with the amount of freezing the channels are doing lately I dont trust it to play back any programmes I set to record. I recorded A Touch of Cloth on Sunday and I reckon I got to see 20 minutes of the programme with the way it kept jumping.

As basic as Spark is I dont get any of those issues apart from the timer.

You need to flash again if your Enigma is glitchy, the box seems to work smoother on the second flash, Pog and others even said the same

Agreed. Although the main signs of a bad flash were with a VERY laggy remote.

Anyway Gazzer, yes, it's Enigma. Are you talking about juddering from HD channels or are you talking an oscam breakup ? Juddering is a well know issue and so just record the NON HD version of the same channel

I was able to use lots of different USB Keys to install Enigma images however none of them worked when I tried to install the Spark RESCUE Image.

I'm not sure why this is not working for you provided you really are following exactly the steps outlined in the document you attached.

Why don't you try using the e2upgrade plugin in Spark? Remove all usb keys from the box. Now, with the 'enigma2' folder in the root of a fat32 formatted USB key plugged into the back of the box boot into Spark then:

    1. Menu > Plugins > arrow down to e2upgrade then press 'OK' to enable the plug-in.
    2. Hit the red button to 'Start OSD'. Now the screen switches to prompt for an upgrade path so select 'OK' and navigate to the enigma2 folder on your usb key and press the red button to select the upgrade Enigma2 option. This takes less than a minute. Now boot into Enigma2.

Option 1: Easiest way... In Spark go to Menu > System > Basic Setting > Factory Default > Boot to E2.
Option 2: Turn off the box using switch at the back. Press and hold the OK button on the box and turn on the power switch, keep the OK button pressed until a boot menu appears on the Alien2 display where you can use the arrow up and down keys to swap between E2 and Spark. Arrow down until 'enigma2' is displayed and press OK to select.

To get to the TV wall just press the OK putton on the remote and then the green button.

I have a full channel list for Spark which I will PM to you.
    Looking for same

    PM'd also.

Why don't you try using the e2upgrade plugin in Spark?
I had been told that the Spark plugin could potentially brick the box if the Spark 1.2.51 E2 update hadn't been applied to the box as it upgraded the U-Boot bootloader. My box came with the Spark 1.2.68 update installed and the only other update listed in the Upgrade Software menu is 1.2.65. Maybe I was being overly cautious but following your advice and also a PM received along with being told that I would have to wait another week for the Kingston memory stick that I had ordered I decided to take the risk and it worked. :)
Option 1: Easiest way... In Spark go to Menu > System > Basic Setting > Factory Default > Boot to E2.
    I don't have this option.

I was talking about an oscam breakup. I ftp to oscam server with my line using Dreambox Control Centre.. I have been told that the line can also be added manually. Is one way better than another or does it make a difference.

If you can't find the option to boot to Enigma2 from Spark then just follow option 2 from my previous post to boot into Enigma2. Maybe the menus have changed in 1.2.68?

I don't think you can really destroy the Alien2 by messing around with firmware installs. You can always install the Rescue Image to get Spark back up and running again. However I found that you need a Kingston USB Key to install the rescue image. Apparently this is not the same as doing a factory reset. Either way its a good idea to make a backup of your install when you've got it all set up the way you want it.

It's true you have to be careful what you say on the Lavatronics/Satstation Spark Forum but they are helpful and have lots of great resources for Alien 2. The downloads section on the Lavatronics website has all the Spark Firmware and Plugins and Channel Lists so you can always install the e2upgrade plugin again and/or the Spark 1.2.51 E2 update if you are worried. Although I think new boxes from Lavatronics have that installed already if you got it from them.

Hi, anyone know does oscam work ok over the wifi adapters?

No reason why not so long as the box firmware recognises the adapter and has the required drivers for it.
