I'm enjoying sorting out all these little niggles though. So much so that I'm considering holding onto the car for the very long term now.

I'm considering buying a heap to drive around in during the winter and declaring the BMW off the road in order to keep it in good condition.

Am I mental? It's in great condition and I'd like to keep it that way.

    Im planning the same tbh

I think the only question is when does someone start doing such a thing. I've seen lots of people wait until a car is gone too far and then decide they'd like to keep it as a cherished second car.

I've had a number of classics and while it's great to bring a car back I'd nearly like to have my own car now that I just look after and hold on to.

I know in 12 months time I'll be back to high mileage driving again so one way or another the BMW just isn't going to cut it as an every day car for me. I don't think I'd like to give it up even if it is only a standard enough 4 cylinder one.

I've been driving the OH's Avensis TD over the summer and it's nice to sit in a car that I don't have to care about.

It certainly wouldn't be a money saving thing anyway. More just to keep a nice car in good condition.

Now we've all seen cars with stupid badges on them, my most recent one is a kia sedona gti tdi, type r, seen that a few days ago, but just there now took the biscuit

00 Nissan Micra, with an M3 badge and a TDI badge beside it

    Jesus wept

    And so did I

    Laughing that is

I recently moved house and its in the middle of nowhere and the roads arent too forgiving. That and I wouldnt mind something which can fit more than 2 people and a decent size boot

Brother got an estimate for the new engine. €3500 for a brand new engine, timing belt, any other parts, and labour. And a nice 2 year guarantee with it. I know you can get it fixed for cheaper, but for a brand new engine and a 2 year guarantee, its not half bad.

Anyone know where to get chrome exhaust tips for an e46 325? Need to sort mine out really. Its a bit silly not having them on the car at this stage.

If not ebay, I'd say Souhans could sort you out.

Got back to the car today and a windcreen/a pillar trim piece (about 3 feet long) is missing. It's garaged and rarely on the street; can it really have come off while driving and me not notice it? On the postive side, it seems that it's only £27. Hope I can fit it myself.

Well the dealer offered me a lot less that expected on my GP (regardless of all the work I've done to have it 100%). He compared its value to ones on DoneDeal with body damage, high mileage and no NCT.

So, I picked up OEM alloys with 2 new tyres and 2 at 75% (since he quoted I'd need new tyres) - the lookout continues...

Would you try and sell it privately?

Love to but can't really have any downtime with no car because its the only car between me and the missus. Off for a week in 2 weeks so tempted to put it on Done Deal myself and hope for a quick sale and hopefully the 2 cars I'm eyeing are still available.

You'll never get what you want from a dealer, I'd sell privately during that week.
A competitively priced car will go in the first two days usually. Most of my sales were the first day.
You can also expect more than what you'd get through the dealer.

Ah I agree, guess I'd a figure in my mind and he went well below it - I'll take the advice as sell it for what I wanted at least off the dealer - have all paperwork / history etc. with it so hopefully she'll sell ;)

In an unrelated note, I passed a dangerously stopped Rabge Rover towing a horse box that had suffered a double tyre blowout in the overtaking lane heading north bound on the M7 after Portlaoise.

Called the Gardai. Very dangerous stuff. Can't understand why they didn't pull into the hard shoulder.

I've never had any trouble anyhow man, As usual throw a couple of hundred onto what you want, that way the buyer thinks he's got you down a bit ;)

****ing hell; that's a scary thought. I can understand slowing the car down and stabilising the horsebox in the current lane but after that I'd move it across to the hrd shoulder out of concern for other road users and wouldn't care if I shagged my rims etc.

So bit of a dilemma, the daysul boys are gona kill me now :pac:

I'm in the market for a new motor, I've found a few I like, and then they go get sold, not cool, but I see some of their petrol equivalents and think whats the difference, I know my driving warrants a diesel, but it's getting difficult to figure does it really

    Anyways rant over haha

As I said to my passenger ( we both have towed horse boxes in our time) even if the brakes are locked solid and two tyres missing it was a bloody newish Range Rover towing the box. It surely would have dragged it across easily enough.
