Yeah exactly, mine are mostly cosmetic parts, new wing mirror as mine is shabby and a previous owner glued it so it wouldn't fold, new grill and badge, new internal mirror as mine has spots on it, and a bolt for the bonnet as the current one is cracked, and a replacement aerial as mine does not work and is stuck up all the time.
They have two gtvs they are breaking anyway :D

You should drop a busso into her while your doing all this work

I think hers needs nowhere near as many parts as yours. :D

Too be honest I'd be tempted to do something like this if I ever stripped one.

Rear bushes, new exhaust, engine overhaul and fresh rubber. Needs some decent cosmetic work too!

    It's still luverly though...:D

Have you priced the exhaust from Alfa yet? They quoted me €695 for a replacement midbox about two years ago

Got it done in Suohans in Trim instead

Also if you are replacing the rear bushes get the powerflex ones as opposed to the regular ones as the regular ones can damage the subframe, and you'll have no car if that happens.

What does the engine overhaul involve?

    Odd experience today!

Didn't know what to make of this lad, he ran out from the bus stop, looked over the front walked round the back and then legged when he saw his bus come - oddball is a bit harsh is it? eccentric to say the least

As the saying goes: There's nowt as queer as folk!

I doubt anyone would believe me if I didn't have this recorded!

New front brake discs have arrived.

Now the next question on my mind, do I fit them or do I get new rear brake pads and discs too and get everything done at once?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,718 ✭✭✭Hal1

If you have good'ish brakes that aren't grinding (down to the metal). Then I would wait and do them at the same time. I think there's a high spot on my drivers brake disk so might be doing this job down the line. I've got drums on the rear though :(.

No not down to the metal, in fact there is quiet a bit of meat left in the pads. Sadly the discs are rusted and warped.

The rears are much the same without the warping.

I'm enjoying sorting out all these little niggles though. So much so that I'm considering holding onto the car for the very long term now.

I'm considering buying a heap to drive around in during the winter and declaring the BMW off the road in order to keep it in good condition.

Am I mental? It's in great condition and I'd like to keep it that way.

    Sounds like a plan :)

I've just discovered the concept of exhaust tips, I want to have the back of mine looking nicer and now don't need to replace it all :)
