Thank you, the more I read the more complex it appears but also extremely versatile. My idea is to have a twin dvbs/s2 tuner with one lnb to 28east and the other attached to a motorised dish!! Then have an internal dvbt.

So will this work?? And can I record 2 sat channels and a dtt simultaneously?? for example, a footie game on 28east and a footie game on 13 east and a game on dtt all at same time?? I have a sky dish with quad lnb and a motorised with quad as well. I would use a spiderbox to drive dish until I got the hang of the duo2 as it does usals. My concern is I will muck it up. for example that twin tuner may only work with inputs from same sat. Do you have a good support site for the duo2? the dvbt tuner is 30 quid i think.

why would you use a USB tuner rather than a internally fitted one? i am asking as I may get the duo2 and from my understanding it has a twin dvbs/s2 = record one watch another, and then room for another twin or single dvbs/s2 or a dtt tuner?? How does 3 tuners work?? record 2 and watch one or record 3 and watch a recording?

My idea is one twin dvbs/s2 and a dtt so I can record dtt and watch another dtt or record 2 sat programs and watch sat or dtt. etc. with 3 sat tuner and a USB what do I gain?

I am only learning about duo2 so be gentle. how much is the usb tuner?
The duo2 factory model only comes with twin sat tuners as standard.
You have to specifically add a 3rd internal dvb-t tuner, which costs around €30+ in most places.

So that's why a lot of us have gone the cheaper route of using a usb dvb-t tuner, which can be bought from as little as €10 from some of the online chinese wholesalers. As we read earlier though, these usb sticks can be temperamental at times.

If they released a triple tuner duo as standard, for a good price, I'm sure a lot of us here would jump at it. :P

You will be definitely able to record two satellite channels and all of the dtt/saorview channels at the same time.

I have an internal dtt on my ultimo and have never experienced any problems with it.

I have the current dvb-t and it can receive rte2 hd. It can't get the new digital teletext service.

Dvb T2 is the standard for hd broadcasting in the UK. DVBt is the standard for sd and hd in Ireland

borrowed a Hauppauge nova t usb tuner from a family member today and it works perfectly in the duo 2. 3 Sat tuners (2x fixed @28e. And 1x motorised) and tuner d now working for saorview dvbt with the nova t stick.
Delighted to see that there is no problem in the box I'm this regard but not so happy that Sundtek breaks the box every time I enable it.
Best advice unfortunately at the moment is to stay clear of Sundtek with a duo 2 at the minute. Shame as they were the market leader at one stage and are the most expensive.
On a side note if anyone has a receiver other than a duo 2 and wants a Sundtek usb tuner drop me a pm and will sell it on or swap for a nova t

There has been an update from VU+ today the tuners should work again. Seems like they had some bug which was triggered by our driver.

thanks for that, we have almost no issues on any Settopboxes but problems sometimes happen when the released Broadcom drivers are not okay, and STB vendors usually fix them up.
That is the second time that this happens with a new VU+ settopbox, so you better get used to that that new Settopboxes will have some bring up phase, unfortunately we don't have any influence at that stage either.

And as mentioned we already committed that we are keeping up support for all devices even those ones which we are not selling anymore. Until our new devices are available (final engineering samples are currently being tested) it is difficult to look at issues immediately, once we're ready it will be easier again.

Did you Test the problem? Still same issue with lasted vu drivers and Sundtek still causes system to crash when using 3 internal tuners!

Well there are 3 tuners in that box but only 1 internal and the USB tuner were used for testing so far.

We did not see any problem.

Can you confirm that 3 internal tuners have to be used to reproduce those problems?

Yes as i reported to you on Skype. 3 internal tuners have to be installed to reproduce this. That is one twin dvbs2 tuner and 1 DVbs2 tuner. One you enable the Sundtek tuner and change itfrom dvbc to dvbt then one of the Sat tuners stops working. Reproducible every time using vix latest build with vu latest drives

Do you mean you change it from DVB-C to DVB-T in the Tuner configuration and then it does not work?
Or did you directly start up the box and the tuners were set to DVB-T mode (the tuners have to be set to DVB-T mode in the Sundtek Control Center - not in the tuner configuration)?

Both methods cause the same effect

    Hi
I am thinking about buying one of these satellite receivers
But one thing I cannot figure out is once the box is set up is their a charge like a monthly subscription and if so who is this payable to
I see on done deal people are selling them and then their is a "years gift" (subscription) which is in some cases €120
Be great full for more knowledge on these receivers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,825 ✭✭✭swoofer

i have never seen this box advertised with a so called gift. this is a top of the range linux box and what you see is what you get, then its up to you what software you use.

do a google and have a good read.

It's like a subscription fee but who is the money going to and what for
Fair enough I know the box is around €330

    http://www.donedeal.co.uk/tv-for-sale/dreambox-vu-solo-duo-with-1-year-sub/4765625

So I can go it alone get it set up and no subscription fees

That link does not open for me. Have a look on world of sat for this box. I do not know what the sub is about but you do not need it. But buy the box from a reputable seller.

You only need a card if you want to subscribe to subscription channels like sky etc

But is this not why people are using these boxes to by pass the subscription charges
Basically what I can make out on my research is if you put in one of these boxes keep it updated you get all the channels eg. Sky Sports, Sky Movies without any further charges from sky

I think you need to do more research!

Best box imo for freesat Eg itv hd etc as had series link (autotimer) full epg and also has card readers for any subscriptions you get. In my case I subscribe to jsc sports on 13e. Reasonable price for a years subscription with good sport which for me on top of free channels like itv BBC etc and with a usb tuner for saorview makes it an excellent all in satellite receiver. But each to their own. Do some research and if you want sky maybe just get a skybox and a sub with them

No, you will not get sky channels if you keep the box updated.

    1.3Ghz processor !!!!!

Surely XBMC is only around the corner....now that would be amazing.

Anyone point me in the right direction for best prices including a DVB/T2 and suitable HDD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 532 ✭✭✭dfdream

Its not available with DVB/T2 card yet.
DVB/T works for all irish channels and that is available.
Or if DVB/T2 is important then pctv nanostick t2 290e is highly recommended by DUO2 Users on Vix anyway.

I just bought one from WOS, delivered today.
Prices don't vary that much when you consider postage (used parcel force).
Had a new QUAD for 2 weeks and had to return it twice so Im glad it had only to go to UK rather than continent. WOS were excellent in helping me out so I took plunge and went for DUO2...
I know its dearer than quad but had original duo from day 1 (3 years) and solo for 2 years and they have been 100% other than the solo being a little underpowered , I should have been more loyal from start.

Probably a silly question but I see transcoding mentioned earlier on in the thread. I also see a transcoding link beside the stream link on the open webif interface. When I click either, the show seems to load up in VLC player so I cant see any difference.

What is this and where / how would you use it with the Duo 2 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 532 ✭✭✭dfdream

Havent used the transcoding much but think there is an issue with it and recent VU+ drivers.

If you are on your lan then streaming is best as its full quality.
Transcoding allows you to set the bit rate of the stream (DUO2 only) so you can get a stable picture on a device when away from home. The Duo reduces the quality to what you set it in settings so the picture doesn't breakup all the time...

So you would install VU player or dreamdroid (for android or an IOS app on mobile device and open port on router (8002 I think) and it will stream the reduced bitrate picture to your phone/tablet when away.

i'm considering getting the duo2 with 4 dvb-s2 tuners and am just wondering how stable usb dvb-t tuners? Anyone using them without issue? would like to add 2 usb dvb-t tuners to cover saorview.
