If you are getting RVP I would get Brady instead of Morrison. He's a more guaranteed starter, on set pieces and rotates well with Anelka.

I thought koren was the set piece taker for hull?

I keep mine largely because of this. 2 seasons ago I was able to field basically an entire DGW team at the end of the season because I kept my wildcard and it made a massive difference in my private leagues. The only way I use it early is if my team is actually really struggling early on. I get that it has its merits to use early on but it has always suited me to wait. I'd say just go with your gut at the time

I made 11 hits in the last 7 weeks of last season heavily featuring the DGW and I came out with a hefty profit of points even with all the hits, I really can't remember how much. I wouldn't hold onto it for the glimmer of making 20 or 30/40 points extra near the end of the season if your team isn't fully functioning early on. The opportunity cost of not using it early on is too much as the potential points you can garner is greater from the first few weeks onwards as opposed to 3 weeks to go.

Not sure how well I phrased that but hopefully you'll get the idea

I think they share them but Koren is the peno taker. I didn't realize that til now. Either of them is a good pick though with Anelka.

    Here I am now.

Mignolet in goal for 5.5m, Davis as a back-up at 4mill.

Mertesacker - Lugano - Rat as my back three. Arsenal/West ham for the solid defensive lines and Lugano for his goalscoring.

Morrison - Coutinho - Walcott and Hazard in midfield. Morrison is my cheeky gamble at 4.5m given his pre-season form.

Anelak, RVP and Benteke up front. Again, Anelka is on fire in pre-season, as is Benteke (DGW) and RVP is RVP, with 2 goals in the Com Shield.

Koren, K. Toure and Chester are on the bench. Playing 3-4-3 for the opening week. Will drop Benteke for Bony if he starts off well, or Hazard to Michu for the GW3 time-off.
    Mignolet
    Mertesacker - Lugano - Rat
    Morrison - Coutinho - Walcott - Hazard
    Anelka - RVP - Benteke
    B: Davis, Koren, Toure, Chester

I think I cover a lot of teams and fixtures, with proven talent and a few risks, but hey- that's football.
Can I get some feedback on this team please?

I think having Morisson and Anelka as starters is a bit of a weakness. I would consider downgrading Countinho to Mirallas, and putting the extra 1.5m into Morisson or Anelka or both.

Here it is with the subs and the transfer to Terry from Cahill which I did after SlickRic talked me into it Saturday evening:

Doubt it but I said I'd take a chance. I want a 4.0 mil keeper and I don't think any will play but he seemed the most likely of any to get a game.

I'm happy to play Mignolet every week.

I know what you mean and I agree. I moreso meant that I don't see the point in planning a wildcard weeks in advance. By all means think along the lines of "when I use my wildcard I want to bring such and such into my team" but I just don't get the logic of setting up a team while having a definitive wildcard strategy. The start of the season is unpredictable; last year West Brom were in the top 4 til around October, the season before Wolves started strongly and I've seen people panic into wildcarding their team early on only to see the form tables change completely and it costing them. I prefer waiting a bit longer as it becomes clearer who is actually going to have a good season rather than who has impressed early on.

Obviously the example I gave earlier is unlikely to be so drastic again; that year my team had been doing consistently well anyway and I was able to take advantage because I didn't use my wildcard just for the sake of a few form players. Similarly this year if my team is rubbish and players are injured/not playing then yeah I'll use my wildcard after a few weeks no problem. And with some of the players I've picked that could easily be the case :P

This is my team for now...Trying to get Soldado in, not sure about Lakaku...but need at least Chelsea players for dgw. Hard to fit a Villa player in really. Even Dzeko is not certain to start.

    Any ideas/obvious improvements??

:pac: Well as you asked for me by name how could I refuse. Please don't take my word as Gospel at all compared to a lot of others much more worthy of giving opinions than I am. I just like thinking aloud on here. I'm sure most of ye have realised that by now anyway haha

That is an exceptionally good looking team I must say. The midfield is as strong as you could make it. I like the rotation between Jussi and Boruc although whether or not Mig would be a better option in the long run remains to be seen.

Some would say the defense is a little weak looking but it's pretty close to my own. You're obviously aware Shaw picked up a knock but nope that's solid. Kos and Coleman are good and good rotation between Mickey T and Shaw. Parr will hopefully be used sparingly, I went for Ward myself.

Upfront is good but there are some question marks hanging over Lukaku and Giroud. Worth the risk when the rest of the team is so solid. Soldado is someone I think we all have high hopes over. It's a great example of what can be done without RVP. Bony/Dzeko/Benteke are options to look at upfront. I'd maybe go with Benteke and Dzeko as you have Arsenal cover already in Walcott but thats a personal choice I can't make for you.

Yep I like it. The only worry I'd have is your defence, doubling up of Southampton. You could change Shaw for Connolly from Cardiff. Also Giroud could be switched to a different attacker, I'd go for Benteke, as you already have Walcott for Arsenal coverage.

    Good team - 8/10

Parr is injured as far as I know . I don't think he's played in pre season at all .

Yeh. Im not sure on my front 3. I think I will swap out Lukaku for Bony after the DGW, if he can nail down a 1st team spot at Chelsea though I will prob keep him for the season.

I Know what you mean about having both Walcott/Giroud. I went with Giroud instead of Dzeko as I think Giroud will be Arsenals no.1 striker if they dont sign someone else. Not sure on who will be No.1 striker at City. Any other suggestions on a two striker combo for 16.5m?

I think Mig is just so high owned that theres no point going for him. I dont know much about differential strategy. Does this matter?

I like Shaw and dont really mind him injured for a week or so. Although I am easily persuaded on a move here under the reasoning that I have Boruc in GK. Any alternatives other than Connolly at 4.5m?

I dont mind my defence being viewed as weaker. The front 7 (which ever combo you choose to use) is where the points are scored. Every million you spend in defence would be better spent in the front 7 imo.

I have no interest in paying that much for Bale or RVP.

Also whats the thoughts on Garrido over Turner at Norwich?
    Alcaraz over Coleman?

    Thanks

Yes it matters! Differential is only a good thing if you end up with more points. If you get less points from the keeper you pick, you will lose ground on a lot of people. You should pick the players that you think will get you the most points!

Looking at the £4.5m defender options I don't see many standouts. Connolly as I mentioned scored 5 goals in the Championship last year and should be assured of his place in the back four. There's a few Newcastle options (Yanga-Mbiwa, Taylor) but I don't think they will keep many clean sheets. Amorebieta who has signed for Fulham is an option but again an unknown quantity. People have been speculating about Neil Taylor and whether or not he'll get his place back in the Swansea defence. So not too many options for that price.

Garrido will be competing with Olsson for the left back position I think so I would prefer to go with Mickey T. Coleman should easily outscore Alcaraz with his greater potential for attacking returns.

Almost exactly the same as the teams posted by some other people.

In changing a few players you've let yourself down though :pac:. Lucas is not a FF player - GET RID!

I'm not convinced about Toure. He's very expensive for someone who sat back a lot during last season. I'll be interested to see where he's played this season. If given more license to go forward he could be a shrewd buy.

This is the fifth team I've come up with in the last hour. It's also the first time that I've put a fifth midfielder into it who I'd actually be happy to play. Nolan is a good player and scores goals.

I've literally just thought of this (and I never bother with transfer strategies) but I might downgrade Nolan to someone cheaper and then upgrade Lukaku to Soldado after a week or two.

Any opinions? Should I get rid of Nolan altogether and beef up my attack?

My current selection but still not happy with it. Having 3 strikers with question marks over them is a risk but the only other option is RVP. I know most people are going with dzeko for city cover ( I could go Neg to Dzeko and Morrison to Zaha for Utd cover).

My defense is weak but I find that it takes bigger clubs a while to get settled defensively (Took City 7 games for a CS last season, Liverpool 7, Utd 4, Spurs 7) Chelsea and Arsenal being the exceptions.

Good team and interesting point you make on clean sheets ive gone with negredo over dzeko myself. Loath to give last years winner advice but i think you have taken one too many risk with gw 3 in mind. 1 of your transfers out is going to have to be cech. Lukaku and hazard not available morrison in no way guaranteed and then a city striker were anything could happen. Thats before injuries, rotation and suspensions. Its feasible you wont be able to field a team without a points hit of course morrison and negredo could turn out to be inspirational.
