Had a few pints of Guinness last night, for the first time in months.

Bland nothingness is really the only appropriate description

its not an ale, its a lager possibly even a pilsner/ lager hybrid - but if you call it an ale than the word beer may as well be striked out of the dictionary and we call everything an ale.

But anyhow, for my taste its about the only drinkable Irish craft beer.
They use the hops to create a tangy lager, but aren't on some sort of quest to make it so bitter that its undrinkable.
The only time I tasted anything like it was a really fresh bottle of Rothaus Pils (black forests favourite tipple!) which was also a revelation.
    Belfast Blonde 4.3%
A wholly natural blonde beer with a clean and refreshing character, derived from the use of lager malt along with a small proportion of maize. The mixture of continental and native varieties of late and early addition hops please both the nose and taste buds.

I had chicken last night. It was bland as well.

    Can't stand the stuff.

Conclusion: Different people like different stuff.

Alcohol is the depressant in beer. If you want to avoid depressants, stop drinking alcohol. So why are you lurking in the beer, wine and spirit forum?

If you have a problem with it you can go through the proper channels. You're really not doing yourself any favours here, and will be looking at a forum ban if you're not careful.

did you manage to see the charter too?
    Not Tolerated

This is not a forum designed to promote underage drinking, binge drinking, alcoholism, abstinence, pioneers, peoples’ personal agendas about the evils of drink,

I always here the "depressant" thing called out, inferring it might be bad or something. I expect some people wrongly think this means it leads to depression, simply because it sounds similar. That would be a depressogenic, which I would not like to take. Depressants are not the opposite of antidepressants.
Depressants are used medicinally to relieve the following symptoms:
    Anxiety
    Insomnia
They are also used recreationally for the following purposes:
To temporarily boost mood or induce euphoria
To reduce social anxiety and improve sociability

I think lidl's perlenbacher is on offer sometime this week, it is not showing online though. Think its 8 for 6.99. It is usually in 6 packs and they have some XXL thing on now with increased pack sizes.

That Lidl Weissbier in a can looks like an ungodly abomination. I even walk fast when passing it.

Maybe some day I'll try it, but for now, it scares me.

Gutted. Went to the St Austell brewery today and found all their limited edition Big Job was gone. Last two cases were sold this morning.
They only made a few barrels of it and a lot of it was given as samples after the brewery tour. They only had about 90 cases for general sale.

Cheered myself up with a nice pint glass, a case of HSD bottles a three pack of ales and stout and some cans of their Tribute ale.

Sitting in the sun now trying out my new glass with a bottle of Proper Job.
It's going down very well. :)

I have a rule: any beer with corn as an ingredient can f*ck right off.

    Italian beers tried so far.

Nastro Azzurro, it's all right, nothing to write home about. Kinda bitter after taste. 5.1 abv

Mastro. Lovely and mellow. 4.7 abv.

Peroni. By far the best of the three. 4.7%.

All three come in 660 ml bottles and range from €1.20 to €1.60 a bottle.

    Nothing wrong with that. :D

It uses some lager malt, but if it's top-fermented, it's an ale. Usually as well, lager will be labelled as such, and "blonde" always refers to a style of ale. AFAIK, this kind of ale was invented to appeal to lager-drinkers, so you're not far wrong

Corn and Rice shouldn't be in beers.

Gone for some Kona's again tonight, and I might even crack open the Hoptimum.

Yeah, but not very many have ingredients listed. I can think of at least one very well respected beer, tasty too, which allegedly uses corn syrup. Not gonna tell you which one though...

If corn's really a problem, you'd know it from the taste :P

Saying a beer is wrong because it contains a particular ingredient is like saying it's wrong because it's in a can, IMO. Neither has a direct affect on beer quality, it's just that they tend to be a feature of crappy beers.

A lot of Belgium beers use corn syrup.

HFCS is disgusting stuff and from a health perspective I'd prefer to know whether I'm ingesting it or not.

Too right. Except you have no legal right to know what's in any alcoholic beverage.

    Which is stupid.

Their should be compulsory labelling of all foodstuffs, people should have the basic right of knowing what they are putting in their bodies.
