I wonder will they start picketing the luas and train depots too, they have done so in the past.

Luas is a private company so doubt that would happen. Trains could go out if it drags on.

Can Dublin Bus Management not hire 'agency' staff to run the buses while the drivers are on strike?

I am sure they could ship in some unemployed drivers and get things moving.

To disrupt so many people over cuts to some perks is pure selfishness.

Right i don't like to see any wage cuts as wages should be going steadily up not being cut but there is a much
better way to air your grievences that go on a pointless strike that will only further damage your company.

by who? considering people voted yes then no or no then yes on the same treaty and also voted yes for jobs that the dogs on the street knew wouldn't come i think its safe to say that much of the support for privatised bus services can't be taken seriously

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Facts are this could all be ended with some open dialogue from government representatives.

But they'd prefer it to roll on a few more days to get the public on their side. thats what its about.

Notice the complete lack of movement by the government on the downing of tools of the largest public transport provider in the country.

What does that tell you... its almost as if its not happening.

I know ive already posted this but if some of the more 'privatise' militant posters here watch this you have an inkling of the bigger picture out there and how every 'normal' worker across the western world is being taken for a ride. You'd wonder how the french revolution started, with all the open communication people have these days its a wonder why this stuff is allowed perpetuate.

Really Really worth a watch - Wealth Transfer, Privatisation of Government, and it has so many parallels with this island its not even funny its actually scary.

What do you expect them to do? Pander to a bunch of children in a bad mood because their not getting their weekly McDonalds for the next while?

I know that in the UK there are strict restrictions, laid out in law to protect workers rights, which prevent the hiring of agency staff to replace striking workers. I would guess it is the same here.

They are striking over overtime. No pay cuts no job losses no lay offs. They are costing OTHERS money and maybe some could even lose their jobs over this. All because a bunch of overpaid drivers don't want the gravy train to stop rolling.

Fire these uneducated, middle-aged whingers and bring in some fresh blood.

their not uneducated, and theirs no fresh blood out there compitent to drive a bus, anyone who is good enough to be a bus driver is all ready employed
There is no shortage of young people wasting away on the dole who would jump at the chance to earn half of those wages.

they wouldn't have jumped at the chance of earning half those wages during the boom though, they would have looked down their nose at a bus driver as it wouldn't be a good enough job for them, i wouldn't want them driving any bus i use, only the current drivers who have experience will suffice.
I hope this strike lasts another week

grow up, resolving the dispute is the best way and you know it
    Dublin Bus is privatised.

and then the drivers who's jobs were stolen use what ever means they feel best to shut down this private company who will most likely remove the routes i use leaving me with no public transport, dublin bus, or no bus, will keep dublin bus with the strikes thanks as i know i will continue to have some sort of service
It's crazy that in the year 2013 we still have a mafia style closed-cartel regarding buses in our capital city!

not at all, dublin doesn't have a mafia style closed-cartel in relation to bus services, dublins bus service is a vital social service and therefore must be run and subsidised by the state and protected whatever the cost as without it many won't have access to public transport as a private company cannot be expected to take on loss making routes and it would be unreasonable to expect them to.

So this is what the defenders of the drivers have been reduced to…

As I said yesterday the longer this goes on, the more the currently ignorant public will become informed of the pure greediness of the drivers and the only bit of support they have outside of ultra-left wing groups and unions will be gone.

Sorry is my 4 year apprenticeship and certificate +7 years not recognized? I know lots of people who hired carpenters that were meant to be fully qualified and charged them silly money for a total hack job.... simple answer is ask for their papers. Not my fault you know lots of naive people who wanted cheap work done off the books. Whats you profession?

Like I said, we can all come up with bull**** tales that someone told us. Don't change the fact that it's guff unless you're backing it up. Whihc you didnt

I work in IT, private sector. Didn't make silly chippy levels of money in the boom but I'm still in a job and I wouldn't be blaming other working people for my misfortune if I wasn't. :)

Reduced to? So you wont respond to all my other sensible posts then no?

You just pick the one that was responding to rabbleque comments. Well done you.

Your post comes across as ignorant because youve inserted terms such as greediness.

Misdirected you are. As ive already said there are many many shrews on this thread who really need to open their eyes to where all your money is flooding in this country. And it AINT public services.

But the Indo wait it was. What possible motivation could their billionaire owner have in lying?

No reason to lie, hes just giving the sheep what they want. Some easy targets to point the finger at. While there is millions hiding in wait to grab up some cheap state assets after the fall out.

    Rinse recycle repeat...

Looks like #DublinBusStrike to end for now - @dublinbusnews says it'll suspend cost-cutting plan ahead of talks at the Labour Court #TV3News

f*ck sake, that means the bus drivers will see this as a victory. Dublinbus should be doing it on their terms, making the drivers hit in their pockets before forcing them back to work.

Dublin Bus has said a full bus service will operate across the city tomorrow

    Are these lads striking tomorrow?

You should consider it a rolling strike until NBRU/SIPTU/DB say otherwise.

DUBLIN BUS EMPLOYEES will return to work tomorrow as unions and the company have agreed to enter into negotiations in the Labour Court.

Open and meaningful negotiations id imagine was the reason behind it.

Train drivers are in same(ish?) Union and also semi state (i think) so will obv stick with them. If they try to block luas depots or lines they would be trespassing and liable for arrest.
