Did anyone get their hands on the Irish form?

Shame about DIT not wanting anything to do with this though. Was ready to order one when I saw that it was going for 200 EUR

Don't think there actually is an Irish form. I contacted them through an official channel and was given a UK form so going to put in an order next week

I'm now waiting 2 weeks for an order form (from the surfaceedu email address) - which "official" channel did you get your form from?

It's the UK order form available by Googling, I emailed the edu email address got response that day.

Why not just order online through the Microsoft UK student store? You can authenticate your student details too

    How much of a difference?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,521 ✭✭✭Joseph

Can't remember specifics think it is significant enough

Why would students in Ireland get a better deal than ms UK student store?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,521 ✭✭✭Joseph

Students in Ireland or UK cannot order directly from this special offer to Universities. The fact that there is a student store in the UK is irrelevant, they don't sell this special offer direct.

Microsoft already into trouble because Surface low sale/price. 11% shares drop is not a piece of cake:

Î was getting mixed up with orders. Sorry....
Guess this spells the end of this surface if they are trying to offload so many

At long last.............the Irish order form! (attached). Also, offer extended to 30th Sept.

Fair play Padraig, I was starting to think that order form was never going to surface... pardon the pun.

I was also half expecting them to hike the prices for the Irish offer so good news all round. Thanks!

Yeah, think it's actually cheaper than some of the other euro countries pre-VAT!

It is a case though that you have to order it through your school/university? Hoping to start in DIT in sept so I'm probably ruled out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,521 ✭✭✭Joseph

You can't order it yourself and unless your University has it setup they are unlikely to order on demand. The University itself has to place the order.

Seems to be a considerable price difference to what they were supposed to be offering students in the OP:confused:

€155 quoted in the article compared with €296 now

considering the price of the nexus 7 first gen is going for now, or even the nexus 7 mkII both far, far better and cheaper options than this joke shop of a device.

The prices quoted in the article are excluding VAT, in the PDF they include VAT.

    €155 + VAT = €190.65.

Long shot here but is anybody here able to get these that would be willing and able to get one for a fellow boardsie. €250 for a 32GB surface with a touch cover is too good a deal to pass up.

But it's not €250 it is €296 without Touch cover with touch cover it is €386. Where are you getting those prices? look at the Microsoft Ireland store website.

Edit: sorry I have just looked at the PDF. It's strange though as the student offer on their site is quoting different prices.
On the microsoft site you just verify with a student email address, with the PDF it looks like you actually have to get your college to go for it and as stated previously a lot of colleges hadn't even heard of this when contacted and don't seem bothered or interested.

You're not really comparing similar devices.

The price on the Microsoft site is for students. This is for educational institutions hence the price difference.

A power supply is listed in the specification, but also in the in additional accessories.

Is that for people wanting a second one?

Indeed, and it appears the educational institutions are NOT on board with this at all.

What exactly does the surface do to make it worth the extra money?

(you do realise that the prices on the surface ordering form are EX VAT as well - the basic surface is 190 + 23%, its a mental price for a dead end.)

The order form price of 190 is inclusive of VAT -- I'm still not convinced I'd get one over an N7 though.

Looked into getting one through a family member working in an 'educational institution' who was told the prices were ex vat when she called up about it.
Given the shambles of the organisation of the entire deal it's entirely possible the person was talking out of their arse. In any case, surface is still an incredibly bad deal over an N7 at 190.
Considering the amount of them MS has to get rid of I'd reckon the price will drop more when they don't manage to make much of a dent in the surface mountain with this promotion.

Full MS Office would be a big selling point for me.

I've a MBP and iPad mini. Great devices for what I used them for but could see myself using the surface for college rather than dragging the MBP about the place.
