I'd suggest getting in at least one more Chelsea player for the dgw. Maybe Lukaku or Terry.

decent defence, very strong midfield, attackers could be better but I guess that's the price for the strong midfield.
it's not a bad strikeforce by any stretch of the imagination, berbatov is a proven premier league goalscorer and rodriguez a decent shout for 6.0, negredo i'd worry would be rotated a bit too much for my liking but at 9.5 he's certainly worth a shout.

I assume your keeping tabs on kagawa? i'd only keep him if it looks certain he'd start.

baker has no match in gw3 either, if you're happy enough that you won't need him anyway, keep him there, if not, look at bringing in a 4.0 defender from a newly promoted club.

How much are people spending on their defence in total? I'm at 25.5 atm, and was just wondering if thats too high or what.

Also, if you were forced to pick one player from each of the 3 promoted teams, in any position, who would you go for, and why?

I know very little about them, and would like to hear everyones reasoning.

At the minute, 24.0, but that will almost certainly go up by at least .5 as I get Terry in.

Cheers for the input. Ill admit that Kagawa is a bit of a gamble but with me i think it depends if Rooney goes to Chelsea. If Kagawa slots in behind RVP then he could do real damage. Same with Negredo. If Rooney goes to Chelsea then hel go straight into my team at the expence of Negredo.

if rooney moves to Chelsea and united don't sign fabregas i'll probably do the same as you and put in rooney for Chelsea and kagawa for united, as you said he'd be fantastic off of RVP.
if that happens your midfield 4 will pretty much as good as it gets and you can rotate between rodriguez and brady then for a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3.

For the initial part of the season Hulls cheap defenders are an option as their home games are reasonable if needed, Chester at 4.0 is the pick.
In midfield they have some potential with Robert Koren (formerly of WBA i think) is their experienced quality midfielder with goals and some setpieces and is an option at 5.0, as is Robbie Brady 5.0 who is expected to get alot of gametime and capable of a number of assists and odd goal in slightly more advanced midfield position.
Palace under Holloway have been poor at the back but have the potential to score some goals (Blackpool few seasons ago) so u could consider Garvan 5.0 with setpieces or Thomas 4.5 quick winger, as your cheap mid option.
Cardiff are the best team of the 3 on paper with very good home record, passionate fans etc but their initial home fixtures are not as solid as Hull, but 4.0 defender Turner or McNaughton are an option also. Cornelius 5.5 is a young imposing striker bought for approx 8million earlier in the summer, is a gamble at this stage but if u are going with RVP and need a cheap striker then he is an option.
Also as Palace can get goals Gayle at 5.0 is young striker who will get opportunities to play as things currently stand though a new striker or 2 are expected, but he may also be an option and will certainly rise in price quickly if gets going in first few weeks.
For my team, i have cheap Hull defender as my 5th def who may play some of the easier home games, and am considering my 5th mid option at the moment with Brady and Thomas in my thoughts depending on DGW1 Bale RVP and million other conundrums i havent worked out yet :)

i'm probably bigging him up too much but I think Robbie Brady is fantastic value at 5.0 for hull, I haven't brought him in as my 5th midfielder never to be played, I've brought him in as my 4th midfielder and will play him quite a bit (admittedly I had to choose a cheap 4th mid due to having both RVP & Bale) but I really do think brady will do well, he should play pretty much every game and will supply a lot of assists aswell as chipping in with an odd goal.

I think Koran (Hull) and Garvan (Palace) are decent 5th midfielder options for 5m; both take set pieces

If you want really cheap rotating goalies you could go for Speroni from Palace and McGregor from Hull; both 4.5m and perfectly rotate for all 38 games

Problem is both defences will concede loads I'd say

I wouldn't mind a few 4m defender options but not sure who are first choice for the new teams, Parr from Palace, McNaughton or Turner from Cardiff or dare I say McShane from Hull could be options; thing is the 4m defender spends most of the time as third place sub anyway so not that important, most of these guys will be 1 pointers each game

If you want a punt, Cornelius for Cardiff at 5.5m might do well up front, same price as Graham for Hull, did ok for Swansea in the premier league

I'll probably have Koren or Garvan and one of the 4m defenders for bench fodder

Just as a matter of interest, why do you mention Fabregas? Do you think him coming to Utd would have an effect on the position Kagawa would play or is it just the amount of potential points he mite score?

I agree Brady is a class act and should do well. He takes some set pieces like corners as well.

If Brady wasn't Irish I wonder what people would think of him, I would pick Koren

Taken from FF Scout about last season in the Championship:

Robbie Brady (32 apps, 4 goals, 13 assists) initially signed on loan from Man United, the 21-year-old penned a permanent deal in January this year. Fielded as a left wing-back in a 3-5-2, Brady also has set-piece duties in his locker – a factor that helped him rack up the assists last time out. Was shifted to the role in “the hole” in the final match of the season as Bruce went 4-4-1-1 and looks the most appealing of the Tigers’ current squad.

Robert Koren (40 apps, 9 goals, 5 assists) ended the season as top scorer for the Tigers. A vital player for the Tigers last term, Koren also has a share of set-pieces in his locker, though it remains to be seen just where he’ll fit in if Bruce decides to move away from a 3-5-2 formation. A possible role in “the hole”, with Brady wide left would certainly boost his appeal.

Owen Garvan (30 apps, 4 goals, 6 assists) another player who has been handed a new contract since the club’s promotion. Garvan was fielded as the most advanced of the central midfield trio and may prove an unlikely off the radar prospect if he nails down the role in “the hole” next season. His game time was limited due to a knee injury but he was reinstalled to the first XI when fit.

Nobody's mentioned George Boyd at all. Very nifty player and scored around the same amount of goals as Koren last year i think. 5.5m

it'd be more of a cautious approach if fabregas signed, i'd have to see what way united line up, it could well be carrick holding, fabregas beside with with license to go forward and then kagawa off RVP, or in other games it could be carrick and fabregas with hernandez alongside RVP (this all assuming rooney leaves)
If Fabregas doesn't sign, kagawa might still be involved more in the games where he goes with both RVP and hernandez up top.

That's pretty harsh. I'm pretty torn between Brady and Koren and am wondering do I have Brady in my team at the moment because part of me wants to see the Irish lad do well. As well as that, many people would know a lot more about Brady because he is Irish, so I think it was a pretty valid point.

i don't think it's harsh, i gave reasons for picking robbie brady and then the question came up if he was being picked just because he was irish. i really don't see the relevance in his nationality? if i had just said pick robbie brady and gave no reasons then it might have been a question that could be asked, are you only picking him cos you've heard of him before?

At the moment I'm going for Brady over Koren because, while KOren scored more goals last year, I think Hull will be pretty dependent on set pieces this year, so step in Brady.

He is popping up as the cheap midfielder in a lot of teams on this (Irish) website. If he was a relatively unknown English player, I don't think he would be as popular.

Is Koren not on a lot of set pieces too though including penos?

I mentioned previously possibly rotating a cheap hull midfielder or striker with a cheap palace midfielder or striker, they rotate perfectly for 38 games. Koren, Brady and Graham are the Hull options, I think Garvan and Gayle are the Palace options

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 858 ✭✭✭mectavba

It's a good shout about rotating the cheap Hull & Palace players. At the moment I have Brady & Gayle. Gayle seems to be the pick of the 5.0m strikers, unless there is someone I am overlooking...although Kev Phillips at 4.5m is tempting, probably will be on the bench a lot though.

What do ye think will be Chelsea's regular back four this season?

    Azpilicueta Luiz Terry Cole

With Ivanovic being roated in for Azpilicueta (depending on the fixtures), and Terry (dont think he's able for every match)

    Ivanovic, Terry, Luiz, Cole

I think Zaha will be better value at 6.5mill. Kagawa played well today because, as far as I could tell, he was in the hole behind RVP which was his position from Dortmund.

Which is where he belongs but of course it is absolutely essential to accommodate Rooney first... :pac:

Regarding the whole "is Brady being picked cos he's Irish" question I would say it's a factor in some teams but I think it's moreso because he was highly regarded at Manchester United. All United fans who paid attention to the reserves know his reputation as a talented player, so when you see a cheap, guaranteed starter with a talented reputation he's gonna get picked. Same happened with Clyne at Southampton last year.
