saying that I notice mine is set to 7mhz in championcs AR-P backup - but I had to set it to 8mhz in HDMU

Got it sorted - many thanks.

Totally as an aside - left the missus alone with it for a day all working fine.
Came home to blue murder and most - not all - of the channels gone.

Reverted to Spark for now and i have a backup of that which I will use if it gets messed.

Note to self: Dont let the missus push any button she can find when there is no image on the telly :o

Question for experts - Spark is working fine but repeated scans have failed to reveal CBBC. Works fine in Enigma 2 (before the missus got to it). Any ideas?

Not sure if this is the answer but in Spark I had trouble tuning in RTE1+1 before 7pm as it is not "on air" until then. CBBC transmits from 7am to 7pm.

Looking at the specs of the Alien2 again I see it doesn't have a gigbit ethernet port.. only 10/100. This is probably a bottleneck when it comes to streaming from it.

Does anyone have rock solid HD streaming over Wifi? What sort of cabling (e.g cat 5e, cat6), router (e.g 802.11-N, dual band) and wireless card (e.g triple steam) do you have? I'd like to upgrade my network to better support streaming and going to get a new router but not sure which to buy.

Yeah I have rock solid HD streaming since I got a new router a few days ago. I have a 200Mb TP Link powerline adapter going into the box and using a Vodafone (Huawei) HG658c router which is 802.11 b/g/n. Its a new router they are providing for VDSL upgrades. I have a 5 year old PB Easynote TJ65 laptop with Atheros AR5B91 wifi card, nothing spectacular. I'm on HDMU 11147 image. I left it streaming RTE TWO HD for 6 hours yesterday over wifi and was perfect throughout.

Also notice people are talking about only being able to stream the channel they are on (or is it just Open AR-P that this is an issue with?). I have no problems with this at all, I can watch one channel and stream another on HDMU 11147 image.

Can you watch one satellite and stream another satellite ? Please test with two on different frequencies and even on different polarities.

Yep all working e.g I just put Comedy Central HD on TV (12090 V 29500 3/4) and streamed Sky Sports 1 (12148 H 27500 2/3). Tried a load of different combinations and all worked.

I also got to stream a different channel on my laptop from what was showing on the TV. It worked for channels on different polarities and on both HDMU and AR-P. I think the key is the way you configure your Tuners.

If you are connecting ONE cable from a UHF aerial and TWO cables from a satellite dish to your Alien2 then this is how you configure the tuners. Tuner A = UHF aerial. Tuner B and C = Satellite cables.

Menu > Setup > Service Searching > Tuner configuration.

    Tuner A:
    Configuration Mode: enabled
Terrestrial provider: Europe, Middle East, Africa DVB-T frequencies
Enable 5V for active antenna: off

    Tuner B:
    Configuration Mode: simple
    Mode: single
    Satellite: Astra 1N/2A/2F/Eutelsat 28A (28.2E)
    Send DiSQqC: no

    Tuner C:
    Configuration Mode: simple
    Mode: single
    Satellite: Astra 1N/2A/2F/Eutelsat 28A (28.2E)
    Send DiSQqC: no

I've downloaded a backup image with a lot of the plugins already installed but the author has disabled the terrestrial tuner.
The image is SatStation-Alien2-Yoda-Backup-April-2013 - The DVB-T tuner option has been set to 'nothing connected'.
Couldn't see how to change this setting to enabled, newbie here, only getting a feel for it at mo.

Have you seen this thread over on the Satstation/Lavatronics forum? It seems that the current satstation enigma2 firmware isn't 100% setup for terrestrial channels but seemingly it can be made to work. If you ask them over there they will be able to sort you out.

Alternatively try loading a different enigma2 image altogether such as HDMU or AR-P. You can find links to these in the Amiko Alien2 - Enigma2 Firmware Thread.

No but haven't managed to get auto timer working on it, has anybody else had this problem? Tried installing a new ipk but that didn't work either.

Autotimer works fine for me using Championc's image...despite him having an issue with it:confused:.

When I last tried to install autotimer on AR-P it asked for two other plugins, a "helper" and something else (my memory's going) both of which Championc has in his image. At the time I couldn't locate a source for these and didn't pursue it further.

Edit: "mphelp" and "toolkit". Don't ask me these are or what they do.

It's championc's image I'm using but keep getting green screens when I try to add a timer. I'll give gerrys advice a go and see what happens.

You wouldn't be able to upload a backup of your image would you? Tried everything to get autotimer working and no luck.

Yes I have tried all (every) image with the Amilko Alien2 and it is freezing and Glitching alot on ITV HD and other channels Recording is also hit and miss somedays when I turn it on in the morning it has locked up.
I just have got fed up with all this and have now invested in the Vu+Solo 2 on Blackhole image 2.3 and its a different machine altogether no dropouts no freezing at all.
Very fast switching between channels no problem recording from cooltvguide and crosspeg. Also it streams beautifully to Laptop and Nexus 7
more important it not frozen first thing in the morning I have it over a month now and delighted to Change from the Amiko Alien2.
I have to say I broke my teeth on this box with Pogs help, although he is not here anymore ,he was a leading light that guided me alot

HDMU is constantly updating although it's sometimes hard to see any differences. Current version is 11151

I loaded that up yesterday and have everything working but it's still slower than AR-P imo. On the plus side I think the service unavailable glitch when switching tuners has been addressed. No problems so far anyway.

I tried 11149 over the w/end and it is slower to switch than AR-P but otherwise well behaved.
My main complaint with AR-P is the low audio especially on AC3 even with everything cranked up full.

My GM Triplex on spark sees my wifi dongle but when I switch to E2 doesn't see it at all.
I see GM dongles advertised for around 15E but doesn't say specifically if works on E2.
Is there an issue with these boxes on E2 with wifi or would a GM or amiko dongle work?
I've been using the ethernet thru a repeater but only a temp solution, will probably get a vonets if wifi dongles are an issue.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28 xzx

how do you get vonets working with these?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Big Wex fan

I haven't tried it on the triplex but I've used it on a dreambox & openbox. Just connect the vonets to laptop, open SW that comes with it. Link it to the router. Then plug it into the STB ethernet port & away it goes. Works a treat on both the dreambox & openbox.

PKT Team have just released their Hyperion 2 image which should be a good image.
I hope to try it out later.
