Still new to gaming on a pc and was wondering has anyone else come across this. Bought tomb raider and downloaded through steam yesterday. Went to play It and I noticed at the main menu that something was not right, the animations looked like they were moving really fast, this continued into the gameplay. It was basically like someone had pressed fast forward. No matter what I did to change the settings to the graphics it had no effect. I googled it and seen that other people had the same problem but with different games and the main solution was to change the affinty so the game so that it only uses 1 core (I think thats what it does). Anyway I did that and it fixed the issue with the fast gameplay but now because I changed the affinity the game the frame rate seems to drop even at low settings. There's a benchmark test in the game and the average fps stays at around 50-55, thats at low, normal and high settings. The game is playable but there is noticeable drops in frame rate and the audio seems to cut off in cut scenes.

Graphics drivers all up to date? check for Beta releases that might fix the issue , Might just be a problem with the game that you can't solve yourself until they patch it. Sounds like a problem of a console port.

that was it, thought the drivers were up to date but there was a new release last week. all working now so that must have been the the problem. i'll have to get into the habit of checking for updates more often. thanks :D

    4770K de-lidded and load tested:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FirsCzTnbdQ&feature=youtu.be

Long story short, ~19°C drop, from around 90 to around 70. With ASUS' new Z87 ITX board, I might be going Haswell, but I'm leaning towards just sticking with Ivy to be perfectly honest. You pretty much get the same 20°C drop when de-lidding Ivy, and it still runs at around 60 at 4.3, so cooler and better for SFF systems.

intresting i may delid my 4770k since its not costing me an awful lot (that being said wc is still a maybe for me).

Since i am going to push this cpu what board would you recommend for M-atx. im considering the sniper m5 or the Extreme VI gene but im pretty stuck in the middle between the two

I haven't looked into Z87 boards at all yet. I'm in the middle of packing up to move out of Maynooth. Between that and a few other things I haven't had much time for anything other than basic posts here, and Computex coverage. I'm planning to have a good read of stuff next week though, I'll let you know what I come up with then.

For those of you looking for a decent little server board...

    22 SATA ports enough?

I'm not a bit jealous! Let us know how you find it.

Holding out for the consumer release but watching all the Oculus Rift activity all over the net is tempting me something rotten.

Anyone ever use the Sharkoon Drakonia gaming mouse? THis one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00889SAE8/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_7?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

if so, is it worth the dosh, or is there any better gaming mice around for sub ~€30?

No it's the best mouse in that price range. There is also the Perixx mx 2000 which is the exact same mouse in black with a rubberised surface.

Brian are you getting the oculus to develop with or just mess about? There's not much support for it yet is there? I'll wait for the retail version. Hopefully it has at least a 1080p screen.
He recommends it always, I think he does have it. It looks cool if nothing else! My g400 is solid but doesn't look particularly sexy

I don't have it myself but all the reviews are golden including customer ones on Amazon. I'm getting the Perixx mx-2000 this week along with a CM Storm quickfire pro keyboard.

Ah, cool. I think I'm going to get that keyboard too. I'm excited about having a mechanical keyboard :P Esp for SC2. :)

I got it. It's quite good.

I should probably fiddle around with the buttons a bit more because I accidentally hit one of the buttons sometimes (which is equivalent to the "back" key in web browsers) but aside from that it's as good a mouse as I've ever had.

I ordered the exact same, unfortunately the keyboard isnt due to ship for a month or two. On oculus rift, i hope they dont make it 1080p, would be impossible to run well for those of us with mid range hardware!

They should do 2-3 versions then at varying resolutions then.

The keyboard should be there quicker. Amazon quote ridiculous times for some reason.

    Hi lads,

I have a 32" 1080p LCD(Samsung) at home. I plan on building my own computer( if I'm not impressed by E3) and the possibility of using this as a monitor so I can put more money towards other parts.

Does anyone here have an experience of using a monitor of this size with their build and is it too large to be comfortable to use?

    Thanks!

A tv i presume? I find that text and things dont look as crisp and cause a bit of eyestrain. That said didnt use it for prolonged periods, and wasnt sitting as close to it as you would with a normal sized monitor

Yup its a tv. I might try connect my laptop to it via HDMI and see how it feels then.

I personally don't like using screens that big for general use, or even gaming.
Though when I first bought my built I did use a 32" tv for the first month until I got the money for a monitor.
Even though both are 1080p, the monitor is far clearer, and crisper.

At the moment I have the TV still connected as a second monitor, though its about 10 feet away from the normal monitor and I only use it for streaming movies/tv on it.

I have had a tv as a monitor for a quite awhile(upgraded recently) It was a 32" Philips tv and I thought it did a great job for what it was.

If I was you I build the pc first and wait awhile to get the money for a monitor, more important to get the best components for the money

Maybe try downloading & installing the English language pack from MS, have a look here.

yea unfortunately i would need the ultimate edition of windows 7 for that, which costs $140 to upgrade so it would be cheaper just to buy windows 7 again. i've read that i can re-use my product key on the same computer but i would need an english version of the windows 7 install disc, can you buy them?

Monotype has a guide on this sort of stuff here. You should be able to download an english version iso and burn it to a disc/put it on a usb and then reinstall with your key.

Whats the neatest WC build you've ever seen.

I dont know why, but I'd really like to see a build where people used a lot of straight pipes and tried to hide most of the workings from view.

Anyone have any help with this: My USB 3.0 ports (both front and rear) have stopped working completely. I have reinstalled the drivers and no luck. Running win7 with an MSI motherboard. USB 3.0 controller is also enabled in BIOS.
