Just wondering has anyone found a decent remote app that can use the infared thing to program multiple buttons. It seems annoying that I can't program a tuner for my hi-fi system for example :(

Although I am mighty impressed I can use it with my 18 year old hi-fi system at all....

Ive not looked into it much but if I dont find a decent app to do it, I might just write one.

My One is hopefully arriving tomorrow. Soo excited. The last time my smart phone arrived by post was 3 years ago. Needless to say, not a lot of work was done that day.

Don't get me wrong it is an excellent piece of kit. You can effectively programme it by pointing the original remote at it and long pressing the button you want to program. The problem is that you can't add buttons, so I can only program what the app prompts me to do, like 4 inputs, volume up and down, on and off and mute.

It's been a rumour for a while, but the Google Edition of the One is officially official now, it seems.....

What does this mean for those out the loop?

Im planning on going to get a One tomorrow. should i be holding off cause a new edition is being launched, or is it just an optional software update i should download?

I did some of the math behind getting one of these if anyone is interested:
buying online (cheapest @ amazon.de: €600) and on a sim only monthly rolling 3 mobile contract, Classic Flex - Max 350, @ €20.33pm, over 24 months: Total: €987.92
buying it on bill pay 24 month 3 mobile Classic Flex - Max 350 @ €40.66pm, phone Cost: €79 Total: €954.84
buying online + 18 month sim only Total: €865.94
      18month bill pay (phone Cost: €219) Total : €850.88
      emobile €49 18 month Total: €882
      buying used/BNIB on adv/DD/ebay/ ~€450 + 18 month sim only Total:€815.94

god i wish i had just shared the excel spreadsheet instead of typing all that.

Does anyone know what emobile is like? any horror stories? i was going to go with an 18 month 3mobile Classic Flex - Max 350, im attracted to the 15gb mobile internet.

Its very much worth going on bill pay it seems, especially with the perk of getting a reduced upgrade near the end of your contract i guess?

    EDIT:

I was looking up that plan here and it appears it only works for current eircom customers @ €49pm. If you arent, its €59pm, which is €180 more over 18 months = Total: €1062 not cheap anymore

New customer on Meteor can get the phone for €199, and €25.41 p/m, 18 month contract, (200 min, 200 texts, 1 GB data) for €656.38. Unsure if CPW offer the €100 back on this, but worth a punt. Best offer I can find. EDIT: Just noticed the €25.41 is if you buy online. Would be €30.41p/m if in a shop to get the €100 back. Still comes to €746.38 before cash back.

    thanks!

Im on that plan on meteor currently, but 200min/200 texts isnt enough for what i go through. 1gb of internet is annoying too.

EDIT: i was hoping to use 350 flex on 3 all on minutes (ie 350 min) and then webtext via cabbage for whatever 3's limit is.

There's a €49, unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 5gb data plan as well. Phone is free, but it's a 24 month contract.

I'm on a similar plan, (hopefully upgrading this week, out of contract) but I get 200 minutes, 200 texts, and 10gb data, for €35 a month. I never use my minutes, but I go through my 200 texts and webtexts handy enough. My data can be varied. I've WIFI at home, and in work, but no data coverage in work. When I was using my SGS2, I could easily crank out multiple gb usage. At the moment, it's fup all.

still works out to be €1176. the unlimited min/texts is nice, and 5gb would prob do me fine otherwise :(

if i can get on the emobile unlimited plan @ €49pm without being an eircon bustomer already ill do that, otherwise its the 3 max flex 350 @ €40.66pm over 18 months for me.

BTW does anyone know what i need to bring in with me to sign up to a new contract? its been so long i cant remember what documents :o

If it's the extra 6 months on contract, then I get ya, but when you work it back to 18 months, it comes in at €882, same as the emobile.

(FYI, I don't work for Meteor, I get nothing from this)

Also, some of your calculations seem to be incorrect.

Total: €987.92 €1087.92 (No €100 cashback as not getting phone in CPW)
    • buying online + 18 month sim only
      Total: €865.94 €965.94 (As above)
For me, Meteor is a no brainer. ****e Three coverage at home, ****e coverage at work, poor to no data in most areas around here. Staying on my contract works out at €869, not accounting for the €100 back in CPW.

EDIT: Photo ID, and utility bill/proof of address.

You don't need proof of address anymore, they do this thing where they charge your laser 1e (and give you a euro cashback) to get your details.

The emobile 49e a month deal is for NON-EIRCOM customers. In fact I believe you can get 39e if you are eircom. So no need to worry about that. It is the exact same network as meteor, so coverage is the same. Their support is absolute trash, but you live with it.

As is said a few posts back, when I got offered this contract in cpw I could hardly believe it, one of the reasons was that it was not on their website anywhere. I've been on emobile for 18 months with the gs2, and I think they're excellent, apart from their call centre.

With Google edition being launched will it be possible to port over the stock android? I'm coming from a galaxy nexus and I'm finding it hard to choose between this and the s4, I don't want to give up stock android if I can, that would be the deciding factor if its possible. I don't see the point in sense or touchwhiz they bring no real world features over stock IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,995 ✭✭✭Sofiztikated

    So I got mine today.

    :D

Still in the box, just came on to brag, really.

€100 cash back comes in the form of a voucher, which you can claim from the 15th onwards.

Yes, I believe that the sense one will be able to run the stock experience no problems, at least that's what the guys on xda are saying.

I think sense and TouchWiz do offer a lot of useful things over stock. For me, the main thing would be the camera. Sense camera with Zoe would be far better than the stock android camera, and you can always use the stock camera on the sense One anyway. Also bear in mind that sense is much lighter now, and very smooth.

For those that are interested, Viper is already being rebased to android 4.2.2, and the first beta for testers should be available in the next day or two.

Silly questions for those with HTC One.

I have the HTC One X and I really like the High Contrast photo filter for the stock camera that you can apply to the photo when it's taken (by tapping the picture and selecting Edit/Effects/).

Is this effect (and the others) still part of the stock camera in the ONE?

Also is the Panorama option still in the stock camera?

yeah, after you've taken the photo you can go edit > effects> auto enhance. i think it was probably better on the one x. bright parts of the picture can wash out on the one.

yes, there is a sweep panorama.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,636 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

Sweep panorama is only allowed sweep in landscape mode, which is a bit disappointing compared to the gs3 which allowed it when held portrait. Might seem silly to want a portrait held panorama, but I used it a lot.

thanks. I did all calculations pre the €100 cashback thing, and just took €100 off all of the totals :o

ive honestly no idea what 3 coverage is like in my area :/

you've put meteor back on my list so, but the emobile one is starting to sound very tempting.

can i just walk in with ID and my visa card and get set up?

what if im coming over from a sim only meteor plan? do i need any of my old details?

I imagine the hardware is identical, so xda will have a port ready almost on release of every update going by their track record.:pac:

im running a stock ROM too, but i think im gonna give Sense one last chance to win me over.

Ehm, you should be able to just bring id and laser. But it has to be passport or driving license they won't accept garda.

I'm not sure there are any real downsides to Sense anymore.

A friend trying to get it keeps being told she can't unless she's eircom. I defo got it though, so did the GF. So just press for it.

    EDIT

According to Emobile Customer care this contract is only for Eircom Customers and I was given it accidentally. My advice, get down to CPW DD and see if you can get it accidentally too

Yeah me too, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't chuffed though. Tbh it's probably someone in the legal department who messed up the contracts and not a member of staff. If you're limerick and I'm Dublin then it's systematic.

Btw, it is real cashback, they debit your bank account and it comes from carphone because it's on the Sony as well.

do you still need a bill and bank statement to sign up for bill pay?

Apparently not, thought this may vary by network.

They now do this thing where they bill your card 1e, presumably just to get your details. They give you that one euro back obviously.

Meteor accepted my tax certificate. I was meant to scan my passport but forgot, but they still accepted me. Maybe what swung it for me was that Ive been with my bank nearly 20 years(I had to state how long Ive been with them on the form)
