Took the day off/working from home and just finished cleaning out the Passat over lunchtime, took her down for a wash and then hoovered & polished the interior.

All going to plan tomorrow there'll be an A6 in her place. Will miss it all the same.. 5 years and just under 200,000 km together and never given me any problems beyond normal (frequent!) servicing and wear and tear stuff.

    The van went from this

    img0180sv.jpg

    to this

    img0188sh.jpg

I had to replace the original rubber mounts with a spurious part :p.
    img0178ir.jpg

I had look in the EGR pipe I cleaned and blanked about 10000 miles ago. Pretty spoless apart from a drop of CCV juice.
    img0183eq.jpg
It originally was full of this crap.
    DSCF0792.jpg

So I took it for a spin and could feel no difference whatsoever. A bit quieter and smoother at high rpm maybe . I think it looks cool though :). Lovely day for a bit of tinkerin. Might head back out in a bit.

Just noticed that. It's just a random pic off the net luckily. I didn't take any of mine at the time. It would have destroyed the camera.

Nasty stuff alright. Carcinogenic too. I had the marigolds on for it. You'd nearly want full set of old clothes and runners that you can just throw in the bin outside and then run into the house for a shower.

Just don't forget to leave the door open or the keys within arm's reach if you're gonna do that! :p

Today I didn't do anything. Saturday I put the coilovers back in after their clean and have it all ready to go. Although does anybody know where I can buy a box of motivation?

So, much has been going on over in chateaux de pickles over the last few days

I decided to give my alloys a good going over, the front ones at least
    Right one

    4uau80.jpg

    And after!

    a5ko5f.jpg

The left was the worst of two evils as the brake was knackered

    So here's before

    bip5id.jpg
    2q1xc7t.jpg

    And after

    ckyfl.jpg

May I add, I had no detarring stuff or fancy jazz, just a pot scrubber :pac:

Next on the agenda was the issue of the left brake, I was getting a horrible grinding noise out of it so I took it off to get looked at, turns out the disk was rusted away to nothing, the caliper was installed slightly sideways instead of straight and the pads were on wrong, and wearing down unevenly so that was all sorted, got new pads on and a new disk and the result

    2ym9mrl.jpg

    2uhaek0.jpg

    ksvnp.jpg

It's due a full service soon too so I got all the parts needed for that too

    5ppxdz.jpg

Productive day/s to say the least :D

Don't think i've any before pics, but I will take some after pics tomorrow. Or else I might just rob a few pics from the Civic owners forum and show you how big a difference it makes!

If yours is anything like mine the black surround on the dash will be covered in scratches and apparently Brasso takes these out with some elbow grease. Haven't tried it myself though...

I removed the rev counter from my car and spent 2 hours polishing it with Biorb aquarium cleaner. The 8th gen Civics have a blue tinted anti glare film on the rev counter, and it scratches really badly. In any Civic i've sent, once rubbed with a cloth, it looks like somebody has used a brillo pad on it. The aquarium cleaner removes the anti glare film which in turn removes the scratches. It takes a hell of a lot of elbow grease though! It looks great now, and without the anti glare film, there still isn't any glare from the sun :D

I also put on the locking nuts that I bought about a month ago!

Will you post pics, I have a scratch on my rev counter driving me mad, would be wary of removing the film though.

Not my actual rev counter, but the scratches were the same and the results were also the same!

On the Type R, the dash surround isn't black plastic so no scratches thankfully

Sent teh Pug in for an NCT today, she sailed through apart from a slightly loose anti roll bar link, took a few mins to tighten it up and got my cert.
    Happy days :D

Is it awkard to take out?
A friend of mine has a civic and the rev counter screen is in bits.
I'd fix it if it was a handy job.

5 - 10 minutes to take out tops. 5 screws, 4 panels, and 4 electrical clips in total. Polishing it was an absolute pain though, took about 2 hours. I reckon if I was doing it again, I could cut it down a good bit though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,921 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

Once you had it held in position and made sure not to snap it, a D/A would make incredibly light work of those scratches.

    Good luck with that ;)

Order the stuff from eBay, only costs about 3 quid. Taking it out of the car only takes a few minutes, and then just do what I did.......bring it into the sitting room and watch a movie while doing it!

A couple of minutes with a da would have saved you some elbow grease, :)

Here is a set from the Toledo I spent about 5 minutes on.
