Two new dunlop SP01's onto the car, replacing the Eagle F1s... which suffered an untimely demise due to tracking being well fúcked. One is still good, other marked for destruction :pac:

Just washed car and remembered how awesome final rinse with an open hose is for giving the car that ultra liquid and 95% dry finish

Fought with a track rod end for over an hour. The rest of their tools are sound but lidl's spanners are muck. I've a few decent ones but I must get a full set. A 13 for tomorrow anyway. Left the other one soaking in oil for the night and fitted the rest of this stuff.

The discs should have been done while they were at it.

I couldn't get a good photo of the lip.

Need to get some tyre shine on that ASAP to make it look really clean...and IMO one of the best things you can do to make a car look clean is some new number plate (no seriously!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,792 ✭✭✭Ded_Zebra

Today I washed and put 2 coats of extra gloss protection on the car. I also hoovered the interior and dressed the tyres. You don't get to see any pics though, if you want to see it you have to come to Glendalough tomorrow :pac:

406 definitely needs tyre shine to get it looking perfect :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,729 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Hoovered the car today, could probably do with another going over tomorrow.
    So much dog hair!!

    The 406 is look lovely!

I had to get dog hair out of mine too. What a F*cking nightmare. The worst part is that it wasn't my dog (I don't have one) I was just minding it. It was in the car for a grand total of 8 minutes but it probably took 30 to get all the hair off the seat

I give up suggesting new number plates to him! :D

Just gonna buy 'em and lash em on at some stage! :pac:

Hoovered, turtle wax interior foam sprayed on seats, damp microfibre to wipe off surface dirt, hoover again. Nice clean smell again, and lob in a black ice air freshener.

Installed the GPS unit (couldnt find any metal to stick it to, but ive it wedged in nicely):

Before anyone mentioned, the bezel isnt properly attached in the image above.

Took about 3-4 minutes to figure out I wasnt in Germany and locked on. Works well, directions show up between the dash dials. It even has my apartment block on it.

Just waiting on a delivery of carbon fiber wrap to wrap all those dull grey/"aluminium" plastics.

Tempted to get a pair of these too, €90 off a breakers:

    Busy Day:

    ...back to the brakes maintenance:

Got my missing shim and bleed caps from Mr.T

    img1958large.jpg

    img1959large.jpg

...while I was there I got 2 x oil filters , shes due an oil change shortly.

    img1960large.jpg

....with the dry weather I decided to finish rust proofing the rest of the sills

    plugip.jpg

There is 4 drain plug holes each side, they can be tricky to remove if you jam in a thin screw driver and jiggle and wedge it you can - I managed to get mine all out and back in without braking them but if you manage to break them the part number is 90950-01327 and Toyota tell me they are €1.72 - Linders Chapelizod have never had one in stock anyway!

    img1962large.jpg

I injected rest of the sills again with Dynax S50, it's tube attachment is ideal for 360degree coverage...I ran out half way through the passenger side, but have used this alot with the rear arches and the sill cavities internally. Ordered another can of the stuff as it's preventatie maintenance worth doing.

You'll need to lay carpet or something down as the dynax creaps through every joing - also reinstalling the plastic drain plug holes , a rubber mallet gets them back in nice and tight.

    dynaxs503.jpg

    img1966largep.jpg

Dynaxed part of the sill lip that was jacked up in the wrong place by a previous owner

    img1967largeu.jpg

...exhaust has started blowing again - stuck some firegum and some heat tape on it - I got 8 months out of the last bandage and putty

noticed while I was down there the bracked arund the pipe covering was broken and loose:

    img1971large.jpg

Couldn't see anything listed in the Toyota EPC for this - but I had a jubillee clip same diameter handy

    img1969large.jpg

    Snug as a bug:

Fixed my dodgy temperature sensor on Wednesday just a matter of removing a few pieces of plastic and the sensor is behind the bumper strut. Just a plug and play job with the new sensor.
    A reading from before

I already posted this in this thread, but it qualifies for here too (I hope):D

Right, today I got the CMax back from Martin the mechanic (very capable guy, lives near Gort and if anyone has clutch problems, PM me and I send you his details)

    Old cruddy bits:

I was told I definitely got all there was out of them, it was rattling, banging, shuddering and generally like a tractor. The car is transformed, smooth as silk and the clutch feels great. It cost E850 to fix and original Sachs parts where used.

Took the new A6 for a (first time) bit of a proper spin down the motorway this evening.

Ye were all right about the 3L engine. It just accelerates so effortlessly and makes it a lot more of a relaxed experience - hard to describe but I definitely feel more patient and calmer than I usually would with rush hour traffic :)
