Meguiars shampoo and waxes are great alright, the endurance tyre gel didn't impress me though

I think Conzy got great results from that shtuff.

Brake pads needed doing today...first time doing pads but was pretty easy

    img8203large.jpg

Pads hadn't much left and would not have lasted a track day!

    img8205large.jpg

    img8206larges.jpg

Brake rewind tool I picked up last week - great quality and made the job super easy both front and back

Get it here (+ free post with Parcel Motel)

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008EFRQPA/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    img8211large.jpg

I flushed the brake fluid and stuck some DOT5.1 while I was at it.

Found this in the euro2 shop to extract the old stuff from the resevoir

    img8215large.jpg

What came out of the system: not too bad so I reckon its not in that long bit more then 2 years anyway!

    img8213large.jpg

on another note...All my bleed dust caps have broken :( and I'm missing the shim below and the pads on the front bever had shims? lovely!

Rang up Mr.T this morning - should be less then a fiver for all the missing bits - once again a shout to Niall Moran in Linders Chapelizod (01-6299619), his customer service for even the smallest of parts is second to none.

What type of paint to you use? As I want to do this with the drums on my focus there in a terrible state. Thanks.

Thanks very much! Had it suggested on Fiat Forum and thought it sounded good so went ahead with it today. Quick sand and clean then two coats of Matt black, didn't bother priming it but it used less than a quarter of a can for both sides so can easily respray if needed...not bad for 45mins :)

Wirebrush the crap out of them then apply Hammerite or Halfords brake paint :)

And don't worry people, no blue drums this time! :pac:

Spent about 3 hours polishing and waxing the car by hand today.
Alas, I've run out of clean rags and my wrist hurts, I'll finish it tomorrow.

Only the roof, front bumper, drivers door and wing to go... Half the car so.

    Edit: Not too bad. :D

Black paint around the doors, comes up better than the silver. :o

I'd also like to add, while polishing I thought I was seeing stars. It turns out it was just my first time ever seeing the metallic fleck in my paint work. :pac:

Kasier2000 random question but is that car from Lewis Motors?

Tie rods replaced... took longer than expected, but that's down to a couple of tricky nuts :pac: and mainly due to having to actually saw the old tie rods in half to get the dust boot off.

Also broke a hammer in half

    Alignment tomorrow then :)

That tie road tool you used there is ok but will 9/10 destroy the boot.

This tool is a great job used them a few times.

Yeah I know, local place didn't have any other kind and I wasn't bothered going to find one :P

I'll pick up one the next time I stumble across anywhere that has them.

not today, but yesterday. tackled the civic for the first time really, thought we'd have way more time from it. just changed the plates because the old metal ones were quite battered and gave it a once over with a dose of different products, i kind of like the colour (where the paint is still intact :pac:)

need to see to a few bits of rust and a few little scuffs on it, but no better car to learn on! peculiar wheels have brand new tires so will be staying :P

Remember the type of work I do... :pac: I use a buckrake tooth and sledge, splits joints in a couple of belts. Better than any splitting tool :D

Speaking of pikey methods, here's procrastinating at it's finest :)

I needed to make holes in my plates for a pipe. So out with this brute....
    Image638.jpg

I couldn't find the exact diameter piping or a straight piece, so I robbed a length of pipe from a 1970's vacuum cleaner :pac:
    Image639.jpg

Cut it down and ground with grinder
    Image640.jpg

    The result
    Image641.jpg

    Image642.jpg

    Flushed

Need gaskets and will be going over it with the straight edge again but I'm happy with the result :)

Not today and don't have pictures yet due to a blockia with a shortage of a camera but yesterday began some bodywork on the GTV.

Washed detarred and clayed and it's already made a big difference. Then set onto work on the wheels 3 of which aren't the best. Anyway The two fronts were the worst and actually came up really well with elbow grease.

Delighted as it means I can hold off with a full refurb for another few months...:D

Absolutely loving this car even if she won't drive for quite some time, first step is getting her road legal and through the NCT! Won't need much to pass....:pac:

Collected the car from paint yesterday, got the front plate holder removed and the bumper smoothed. Just waiting on a QR towing eye plate mount to arrive from the States to keep it legal, but currently enjoying the cleaner front end.

I decided to install the lockwood MR2 sill plates I got from my breaker in the end

The stickyback was more or less fecked so I removed the backing sticky with some 151 sticker remover kit I picked up in a random hardware store...(it's excellent stuff I might add)

    img1880large.jpg

    img1893large.jpg

The plates themselves are a bit rough so I picked up some autosol and gave them a polish

    BEFORE:

    img1884large.jpg

    AFTER (First Section):

    img1885large.jpg

    SIDE BY SIDE:

    img1886larget.jpg

Removed the old stuff and stuck some new badge tape on the plates

    img1894large.jpg

    Fitted them in the MR2

    BEFORE:

    img1896large.jpg

    AFTER:

    img1897large.jpg

    img1895large.jpg

Quite happy with the end result :)
