So just give it its regular wash with sponges and the lot except use Meguiars NXT? Ya i did kinda go over board with the claying, but id say it had never been done before. My mate was giving his car a wash aswell, he had never seen clay being used either so i was explaining to him that it will "catch" on the contaminants. The entire car was like sandpaper, i figured it would get easier the further back the car i got, but it didnt.

Just another question, would AG Extra Gloss Protection work as a sealant for headlights after a scrubbing with toothpaste?

Maybe he didnt use a spray to keep the area moist and the clay moist? Seen a few people do that.

No i used the spray that came with it, about 3/4 of the bottle.

Sponges are the devil. They will drag debris across the paintwork and scratch it. Get a lambswool wash mitt instead.

EGP will work as a sealant but be careful with headlights as they often have a UV coating on them which you don't want to remove.

Its on the missus' car, i did them before and they came out great, but now theyre rank again, i didnt use anything to seal them last time. Ok lambs wool instead of sponge anymore. I have yet to detail the trim. I got "black in a flash" wax for the trim, Curran recommended Gtechniq but i couldnt find it anywhere.

Gtechniq permanent trim restorer is what you need. It's available from cleancar.ie

After doing the dog on it Saturday night, extremely hungover, i needed to do something productive. Last week i bought a few product that were new to me. The finish here is dedicated to Curran, that man knows his product and he convinced me to Clay the car. The difference claying makes is unreal.

    Finally got around to cleaning the car this weekend! lots of steps involved! Basically they were: Rinse; wash; rinse; dry; detar; wash; rinse; clay; wash, rinse, dry; polish; buff; polish; buff; polish; buff; seal; buff; interior shampoo, hoover, clean insides, polish windows, water-resistant windows, shine bumpers, shine tyres;

New Bonnet to arrive via courrier this week! That dent on the bonnet annoys me too much :/

PS - AutoGlym Super Resin Polish was used for three layers, It seems to have done a really good job in masking all the swirls and light scratches on the paint. The Extra Gloss protection looks fantastic but is a PIG to buff off after 6 hours of curing. The interior Shampoo smells great and does an absolutly fantastic job on the upholstry - no more grimey looking roof lining, upholstry on Pillars, or seats - no pictures, but take my word for it: the stuff is bottled magic! Also, I really liked the Turle wax tyre and bumper shine! two products in one and I think it looks absolutly crisp!! only time will tell how durable.

Fair play, its shinning. Thats my plan once I finish up college at the end of the month and make the little i30 shine. Hate that I got the car a month before the exams and didn't have time to clean it inside out properly.

If you ever run short of mirrors you could get the missus to do her make up on that :)

Got my Philips Diamond Vision Bulbs delivered this morning. Tried to take a couple of pictures this morning but you cant really see it in the daylight on a camera. Will post a pic up later. Nice white light coming out now instead of the yellow.

    Cheers :)

As for number plates, you mean the front? Thats actually the clear plastic in the corners that was peeling off. I cleaned it as best I could and then put superglue in there to stop it peeling any further.

... of course if you just mean that they're Dirty Nordy plates - afraid there's little I can do about that :pac:

Good and all as my eyes are when it comes to detailing, yes, I was referring to the Nordy plate :P

New kicks... need spacers ASAP and the caliper is scrapping the inside of the alloy making a terrible noise... according to the mechanic it'll go after a while once its worn in.. why did I bother swapping then around :(

yep, the stuff is in the 1st picture to help you find the same stuff that I used. It smells kindof like old spice, but in a really nice and fresh way...(if that makes sense). Honestly it's so easy to use: spray on, aggitate with damp tea towel, wipe off. Good as new! (the only flaw is the spray bottle itself, it's very difficult to spray upside down to spray the ceiling)

Yep that's me - damaged bonet from kids throwing rocks.

Nope, nothing police could have done. Just gave me a report number if I wanted to follow up through insurance. They did a few laps around the area and then parked down the road from my appartment for about an hour. Nothing more they could have done.

cheers, It's an excellent condition used bonnet that I bought from a breakers in England - and I paid £126 gbp. (incl. delivery and VAT). It's actually at the depot right now - just waiting for me to go collect it. Anybody know if a Golf mk5 Bonnet will fit in the boot of said car?!??! :pac:
Repair was going to be ~£240 (aluminium filler, then sand + respray of whole bonnet and blend into wings)

New bonnet was going to be £300+

To be honest I didn't want a brand new bonnet as I think it might stand out a bit - I'd prefer a used one as I think it would be far more subtle and stand out less.

Had some fun with the sunroof on my E36! I was expecting this to be awkward, which it was. Needed to swap out the roof lining section for the sunroof. Everything I read before starting suggested the sunroof tray needed to come out completely, but I think it could be done without doing so.

Either way - with the headliner out you just need to undo a few hex screws to remove the sunroof tray. An extra pair of hands helps, as its slightly heavy and a bit unwieldy.

Big hole where the sunroof used to be!

    img_0364.jpg

The sunroof tray as it looks out of the car with the light grey liner:

    img_0365.jpg

You need to connect up the sunroof motor again to allow you to tilt the roof,(needs to come off when removing the sunroof tray). Allen key goes in the centre and allows you to operate it without power.

    img_0366.jpg

With the roof tilted, you can remove the three 17 mm bolts holding in the rear of the actual sunroof panel, then undo two torx screws just inside the front of the panel - just lifts off then.

    img_0367.jpg

Heres the sunroof cassette minus the panel:

    img_0370.jpg

The grey vinyl part here didn't come with my headliner, so needed to color it. Used VHT vinyl paint purchased form cleancar.ie.

    img_0368.jpg

First coat is a fine enough dusting of paint -

    img_0369.jpg

    Second coat -

    img_0372.jpg

    Last coat -

    img_0373.jpg

Liner section just unscrews (10 by torx screws)

    img_0371.jpg

And new one screws back in -

    img_0375.jpg

Job done! Second pair of hands are even more useful when refitting! Once fitted, I could put the new headliner in - bit awkward, but its easily done on your own. Its significantly lighter than the sunroof tray!

    img_0380.jpg

Only noticed the damage near the sunroof panel as I was going to fit it - should be easily rectified though.

I clayed part of my mothers car today. But there is some marring left. She liked how it felt smooth. Must by wax during the week.

I need to swap mine as well soon since my sunroof has a dent and a friend has a complete spare one in the right colour.

    Making it look easy.

It'll be handy for you - especially if you don't need to swap out the fabric. Tilt the roof, undo the two hex screws you'll see in either side, then unbolt the 3 nuts at the rear and the whole piece will come out.
