    are you on wireless?

what are you using to test the speed as speedtest.net can be very unreliable

i have noticed that it sometimes takes a few days to actually change the speed from my pervous upgrades
restart the box every so often and check again.

Yes im on wireless. I used both Speedtest.net and the speedtest on the UPC website. On your advise I will wait until early next week to see if there is any change in the speed. If not I will then contact UPC. Thanks for the reply.

You'll never get anywhere near 100Mb over wireless due to the nature of wifi itself.

You'll only ever get full speed from a cabled connection.

When connected via wifi from my laptop I get roughly 35/40Mb speed. When I do a test from my server which is cabled up to the service via Gigabit ethernet I get speeds of roughly 115Mb or so.

Just got text from courier company asking me to ensure I have equipment 2moro. This is disappointing as I clarified with UPC today that ld have old box for a while incase any problems with new services. I also have programmes recorded which now won't get chance to watch. Anyone issues with this?

UPC sent me out a new + box recently (not Horizon - nothing to do with Horizon). They told me I'd have to give the old box to the courier. The courier had no interest at all in it. He told me the old box would just go in the bin. So I kept it for a few days and then recycled it, once I was happy that everything was rosy.

Don't know if that was such a good idea, the box still belongs to UPC, they could come looking for it at any point.

I jumped from 25 to 100 but did not get the update until the box was actually installed.

Speaking of which - anyone suffering from minor internet dropouts since having the box installed - connection has been a bit unstable since the installation.

Yeah I've noticed that a bit and I'm getting 6010 errors a couple of times per night on the TV as well. I've been leaving the box on standby to get any software updates as they come out.

Does anyone have a direct contact number for Horizon Support?

This install is starting to turn into a complete pain...

Had the box installed Tuesday morning, early doors. Tech was here for an hour or so. But never got past the installation screen which displays a '1090' error code and tells you to contact customer care.

He said it would come on in a couple of hours or so - they just had to sort something in the office - said grand - went to work.

It's still displaying the same error code. I've rang UPC multiple times but basically keep getting fobbed off - That should be sorted this evening/ morning/ afternoon etc. etc.

So basically I've had no TV since Tuesday morning (and they want to charge me an activation fee too - ha!)

I'm so glad I kept my existing modem. Otherwise I'd be sitting here playing board games and listing to the radio.

My internet is still only about 50mb. Also, has it been mentioned that the 5GHZ wifi is disabled on the box.

I Believe theres a fee for not returning the box. the courier might not have cared because, well he is simply a courier.

Got box today, Could not set it as a client to my router/modem.
My router/modem was installed upstairs so I could directly connect my CPU via LAN..because of the crap Wi-Fi.
Now I have the same problem as before..Have 50mb but now I only get 20mb via Wi-Fi.
My house is a 3 bed terrace :(

Have a look at this and see if this helps you're wifi speeds

No sign of a fee on my account. The courier normally collects the boxes, but he has no system for recording or tracking these, so it didn't seem to make any difference whether you returned the box or not.

Here's an extract from thre site:

    Returning Equipment to UPC

How do I return equipment to UPC?

We will attempt to contact you three times over a week to collect the equipment after your service has been cancelled. After this time, if we have been unable to collect the Digital+ or Digital+ HD box we will add a charge of €150 to your account.

You can contact our collector directly on 01 2571219 or e-mail UPCequipmentcollections@thelinor.ie to arrange an early pick up of the equipment.

    http://support.upc.ie/app/answers/detail/a_id/335/~/returning-equipment-to-upc

don't be surprised it you see €150 on your bill.

I'm just telling you what happened in the real world. I have my bill with the charge for the new modem, and no charge for unreturned equipment, and no contact from UPC looking for unreturned equipment.

I can't vouch that it will be the same for every customer, but that's how it worked for me.

Its still not good advice, considering they can charge you

Is the Horizon box pretty noisy or is it just me??? Not sure if it's a fan or spinning harddrives but it's a lot louder than the last HD Box. Not a loud as a PC but not far off. It's the same in standby!

Anyway, box would not start up again this morning from standby (High standby setting), had to reboot. UPC coming to look at it ...

Yeah the Fan is pretty loud for me as well, shifted the box to have the fan hanging over the back edge of the TV stand and the increased airflow helped to make it a bit quieter (no kids in my house so probably not recommended for people who do)

Also, has it been mentioned that the 5GHZ wifi is disabled on the box.

Yeah I noticed that. Getting 30-40mbs on wifi and the full 100mbs or so on the ethernet cable. Would having the 5ghz wifi thing give you the full speeds? (my wireless is 'b/g/n' etc (whatever that really means).

Other than that all is good. The controls are taking a bit of getting used to. Able to stream 1080 media from my iMac via Plex or Twonky ok.

Occasionally I get stuttering picture and sound from live tv but a soft turn off and on seems to cure that.

It would help, but you still wouldn't get all your bandwidth

How much are you being charged for the upgrade in speed?

I didn't give any advice. I just shared my experience with another poster who has been left in a difficult situation by UPC and wants to watch stuff that he has already recorded on his old box. That poster and all other posters are adults who can make their own minds up about the situation.

The old box will also be deactivated so you can no longer watch recorded programs, or else if left activated they'll be paying a multi room sub for it.

And how long does it take them to deactivate it?

Anyone having problems with wifi drops? I have several wifi devices and the wifi connections periodically stop..My notebook shows limited connectivity and I have to reset the network connection on the notebook to get it back. Similarly for ipad, I have to reboot the ipad to restore connectivity. Changing wifi channel hasn't helped

This has only started happening after installing the Horizon box.

Well, there are lots of problems on the old Wifi routers with the DHCP renewing at ridiculously short intervals (30 or 60 minutes), causing regular drops. You could try taking a look at the DHCP settings on the Horizon box (don't have mine yet, no idea where it is in the interface).

I know it's a trial/beta but so far alls I have heard is

    Slow Internet
    Constant connection dropouts
    Box freezing a lot
    Very noisy fan
    Remote not connecting to TV
    Internet speeds actually reduced
Some people not even up and running after 2 days

I am having this is installed today but am having serious doubts now

Has ANYONE actually had a positive experience and thinks it is worth the upgrade at this point with the amount of bugs

Yes I do understand what a trial is,I guess my question should have been is everybody experiencing these bugs?

And when you say 'lots of people on here have it working fine' am I missing something? Nearly sure I read all comments and wouldn't agree at all with that statement
