Has Mark Roche really been looked over by all these clubs? I know he had some ties with Connacht and Leinster in the past but surely an academy place is on the cards somewhere? I saw him play for Landsdowne firsts against Clontarf and he played a blinder getting mom in the end. Also won an under 21s championship with Landsdowne this year. Surely someone will snap him up?

Thought that Connacht had taken Roche on?

He's played Eagles and 20's over there, nothing official yet.

rory o'loughlin and andy marks are quality talents

O'Loughlin's big chance is next season with the 20's.

Marks is still in school, pretty talented kid but failed to make the schools side this year.

Fergal Cleary has impressed at 13 when he played there for the schools side.

Yes considering he's already made an appearance for Leinster A and he's very physically developed. But I think Dardis could be equally as good if not better.

You can add Parata to Connacht, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭lurtz

Jacob Walshe,Saba and James Connolly all meant to be going into Connacht academy

Hes already made an appearance for the Leinster senior team!

Came on for last few minutes in a Rabo game, got one touch of the ball and beat four defenders

He beat 2 actually, but those facts have no place on these boards. BTW I'm renaming the forum to 'The Adam Byrne Rugby Forum'.

Looking forward to seeing Dardis in blue actually...

The only reason Adam Byrne hasn't been included in the 20s squad is because he's waiting for a call up from Gatland.

Is UCD's Barry Daly involved in the sub Academy. The guy seems to be tearing it up for UCD.

If he goes abroad that is.

Connacht will soon have equal or near equal funding (so I hear).

Doing that and setting up a 7s team isn't within the financial means of the IRFU.

I dont see why it isn't though,New Zealand support a hell of a lot more teams than we do

a national men and womens team, a maori team, a heartland XV,u20s, u18s, 4 super rugby franchises with development teams, 14 fully professional ITM cup teams with academies, as well as full time men and womens sevens competing on the world series

Very good points Lurtz, how can NZ support all those teams, I know that they will sell a few more jersey's than other teams, but we don't have half the number of teams that they do?

Great to hear that Connacht is going to get equal funding.

looking at the AIL this year with lansdowne/ucd etc some of these lads would make super 7s players and i'am sure would jump at being contracted to play the IRB world circuit..not all are going to make the pro 15s game and this will create other opportunities for them as the 7s gets BIGGER and BIGGER and will be a more global game than 15s

Ireland would probably be able to have a similar setup if there was no GAA or soccer or any other diversions to speak of. NZ is a special case with rugby, can't really compare.
