Had a Punk and 5am Saint in O'Neills yesterday evening,
Did they have these on tap there Heroditas ? If so, how much did they cost, and any other nice craft beers on tap there ?

    Was given this :D

I haven't had any of these before.

Please be quiet in the morning!

haven't had much of the back row, but the front row are fantastic! especially the raid beer.

Seen a new beer combo that I didn't think of before. So 1st half of the beer is an IPA and the top half is Guinness.

They were using Bells IPA 2 heart and Guinness and together it's call a "Black Heart". Seems popular in this part of North Dakota.

Anyone else find Vratislav to be the best cheap beer available? Very pleasant lager IMO

They do indeed. I think they're €5.50 and €5.60 respectively.
They also have Leann Folain, Dark Arts, O'Haras red, O'Haras pale ale, Sierra Nevada, Aspalls cider, Rebel Red and a few others ... all on tap.
Certainly one of the best pubs for choice.

Heading to Belfast tomorrow, anywhere recommended for good beer selection?

The crown has a couple of whitewater beers on cask and is worth visiting as its a beautiful pub.

    Stone Bourbon Barrell Imperial Stout
    Old Rasputin Imperial Stout
    Pliney The Elder
    Lagunitas

I'm gonna miss these beers when I get back to Ireland.

Staying just up the road from there so will check it out!

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Bulmers as a younger man made me very distrustful of cider, and I found it extremely hard to find one that I liked since. But I had a go of Stonewell and Mac Ivors recently, and I must say, Daddy likes. Such a change to experience a cider that actually smelled and tasted of apples, without being too damn sweet like the Kopparberg stuff.

Also had a sip of Samischlaus (sp?) this evening, and holy balls, there's a whole lot of delicious flavour packed into that one. And alcohol too, at 14%...

Also tried Veltins, a guest draft lager in the Bierhalle, and found it quite pleasant. Maybe not outstanding, but it certainly didn't do anything wrong, and hit the spot after a light meal in sunny weather.

Fargo Woodchipper IPA had it last year in draught but from the bottle this time.
Seemed hoppier an sweeter from reading back on my notes.
    Average enough IPA.

Duvel Triple hop. 2013 selection dry hopped with Strachan Ace.
    Very hoppy.
    Very dry.
    Very nice.

Got in Abbot's Ale House, Cork but they're all gone!

Just had my taste buds woken up by Dark Arts on tap. It's lovely.

Had Rochefort 6 last night, the alcohol hit was the strongest on this for me despite having the lowest ABV of the three. slight sour smell to it but the taste was lovely, plum and bread. Like a alcohol desert.

Tonight I poured a bottle of Rogue Hazelnut Nectar and had a 1/4 of it before I spilled it, nice Brown but nothing spectacular.

Having a hopplehammer atm, v nice Irish Imperial. Reminds me of Torpedo

    It's ok.

I tried a bottle of cocoa psycho last night, didn't like it. Which is odd because its the kind of beer I usually do like. On the homebrew tonight.

Had Schneider Weisse Hopfenweisse tonight, was really disappointed. I was hoping for wheat beer + loads of citrus hops but I think the high alcohol content(8.2%) robs it of Schneider's usual full bodied maltiness and just leaves loads of bitterness. Have a homebrewed hopfenweisse due to be bottled in a week or so, hoping it comes out better.

Bought a bottle of Cocoa Pyscho as well though gonna save that for some other night.

To Øl Dangerously Close To Stupid.

Maybe it's the lovely arty front label with no text.
Maybe it's the almost no info but still tells you what it is (along with a nice quote) on the small back label.
Maybe it's the massive hop hit.
    Maybe the balancing malt sweetness.
Maybe it's the very well hidden 9.3% alcohol.
Maybe it's the fact that it's a bit too expensive.

But this beer is dangerously close to being my current new favorite beer!
Bought in Bradley's, North Main Street, Cork.

Had one last night, beautiful stuff, also had duvel tripel hop and an einstok pale ale. But the To Øl beat both hands down for me. Really enjoyed the einstok though also.
Bought in galvins carry out on bandon road

Really wanted to try that To Ol beer but forgot about it when I was in the off-license. Got Mikkellers Nelson Sauvin IPA, and Tomahawk IPA though. Both are quite good, the latter having an amazing smell to it.

Still, really wish I had that DIPA :P

Alaskan IPA very sweet taste followed up by a citrus aftertaste.

Another middle of the road IPA.

    Harviestoun 'Bitter & Twisted'.

Beautiful blonde ale with fresh citrus notes and prevalent hoppiness. Every bit as good as their 'Schiallion'. For a nation more renowned for whiskey, the Scots are brewing some quality beers.

€6.50 a litre in Abbot's, Cork at the moment!

Millstream Iowa Pale Ale : major sweet then grassy smell when opened. Tastes like caramel straight up then followed by the hop kick.

I think it's too sweet for my liking.

    Along with many (too many:( of the usual suspects this weekend I tried for the first time;

Brew Dog's "Dead Pony Club" - A fantastically zesty IPA. That despite only being 3.8% (iirc) was seriously bursting with flavour. Caught me off guard!

    And

"Proper Job" - I had the 500ml bottles in The Dark Horse in Blackrock. They'd been recommended to me by a friend. Excellent stuff. Really refreshing, the kind of thing you could make a fierce dent in on a hot day. And condidering a lot of the IPA's there on draught are around the 6.40-6.60 mark. The price was also refeshing at €5.70 a bottle.

A great beer, and it's nearly always included in Tesco's 5 for €10 offer.

Finally got around to drinking my bottle of Orval Trappist ale.

It's been in the fridge since Sunday. I'd half of it sipped before I spotted the recommended 12 - 14° sign on the label!

Crisp and refreshing this way. Must try it again at the slightly higher temperature some time.

Twisted Pine Hoppy Boy IPA - Slight grassy smell from this when pouring but not much more.
Very much another middle of the road IPA's. A whack of hops followed by nothing.

Didn't even finish the bottle as it was just nothing of worth.

Brewdog's IPA is Dead series for 2013

Dana - the smoothest of the lot, understated, not too bitter and not too hoppy

Wimea - classic New Zealand hop-floweryness, very light tasting, dangerously quaffable

El Dorado - more American-tasting hop bitterness, this was probably my favourite as I like that style of ale

Goldings - a bit musty, nicely bitter, nicely smooth. Like the Dana in that nothing jumps out at you

Anyone know of any off licences in the Waterford area that sell any of the brewdog beers?

I'd be inclined to try World Wide Wine(s?) in Ardkeen.
