Think I'll see what sky can offer in my area :)

I have the same feeling. All of my TV is watched online (Netflix, huluPlus, iTunes etc). All I need basic TV and a good internet connection. Vodafone are offering 70Mbps soon and I wouldn't be surprised if Sky did the same where possible.

It's prompted me to start the process to shop around. Really felt "let down" by UPC today.

I kept my discounts, but only moved up from 60mb to 100mb, everything else remained the same. Also started a new 12 month contract, so I'll have to check if I keep the discounts for another 12 months or will they end in September.

    It's all a little confusing...

Yes, they've unleashed the sales team on us and I can see that it's not going down well. Up to now it was probably friendly techies mad keen for feedback and who didn't care what package you were on but now it's raw cash they're after.

The guy I spoke to claimed he didn't know there was any trial boxes out there, that was his excuse when I challenged him on a blatantly false answer he gave to a question I asked, his story was that they were just starting the trial so as far as he was concerned there was NO boxes out there yet and they were only starting next Tues 7th.

I have emailed UPC twice asking to be put on the "trail" but to no avail. I did apply when they advertised at first but I was not selected. Has anybody got any tips on getting onto this trial? Cheers folks...

I also got the email earlier today and have an install scheduled for next Tuesday.

Was asking the sales guy if its possible to keep the existing modem the way it is. Using an AirPort Extreme with quite a few other bits and bobs that a really dont feel like reconfiguring.

He went off to check and came back saying its not possible and I'd have to use the in built modem within the horizon box.

Anyone else get a different response?

Also what remote are the giving with the horizon box at the moment?

    Thanks,
    S

In D16 got the email refused to call an 1890 no. asked for a geo no. to be told the 1890 is the only one they have. Called 1908 and a nice girl in customer service called me back and put me thru to the Horizon sales crew. BB going from 30 to 50. Getting the new box with credit on account and €12 for on demand, all for an extra €2.50 a mth, nothing else changing.

Good deal for me, thanks UPC.

I also got back on for further clarification. The second guy I spoke to was a bit more helpful, though he wasn't aware that there was a 3 month trial until I brought it up & he checked & confirmed that there is. He did admit that this was all new to them also so there is confusion amongst themselves too which explains why what he was offering was different to what his colleague was offering earlier.

The €68.50 deal doesn't include HD or HD multiroom. I currently have this (but have it free as part of my loyalty discounts) so on top of the €68.50 I would be charged another €5.00 (HD) plus €10.00 (second HD box), so it would be €83.50. So if I signed up for the 3 month trial the €90.00 (plus €12.00 movie rentals) credit to my bill would cover the extra charges. My phone (freetime world) & TV package (Digital Select Extra) would stay the same as I'm already on. My broadband would increase from 30Mb to 50Mb.

The earlier offer (12 month contract) was phone, Digital Max TV (HD and HD Multiroom) & 100 Mb broadband was the same price (€83.50 with free installation plus the €90.00 + €12.00 credits).

I still don't understand why they want to charge €5.00 extra for HD seeing as the Horizon box is a HD+ box to begin with, & seems to be different to what others here have been offered. In my case I can't sign up for anything anyway now even if I wanted to as someone has to get back to me about what I'm being charged as it is, so I'm none the wiser really.

    Cushie....

for 68.50 the UPC folks told me that it included HD, any discounts I had from loyalty still applied and it was a 12 month contract.

I guess the best advice I can give is to ask them to add a note to your account for what you exactly agree with them. Hopefully they won't lie and add exactly what was discussed.

I reckon I'll hold off signing up until the sales folks figure out what's going on :-) Maybe it's wishful thinking.

HD with Horizon and phone. Happy with that and I did'nt have to enter a new

    contract.

I asked today and they said self-install is not an option though I think someone in the earlier trial said here that it was an option.

I can't stand all this conflicting info from UPC so will hold out for the promised phone call, but it's good to know that others have been offered better deals.

...confirmed my broadband would be going from 60 to 100mb at the end of the month...

I was also told that my BB 'would be going up from 60 to 100' as if that was part of the upgrade but when I pushed the guy on the speed and said I was happy to stay on 60, he reduced the price.

Remember you were dealing with a sales guy, don't assume that everything they throw at you is part of the deal, they are using the opportunity to upsell big time. This is classic sales tactics.
....no mention of price increase for the horizon...

Did you ask what you'd be paying after you take the Horizon box? Just because they don't mention an increase doesn't mean there won't be one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭thefishone

Got an email about a major software upgrade on 2/5 (tomorrow night) and new RC being posted for delivery friday.
Also a letter saying a price decrease of 21cent:D

i told him that it was being increased anyways....there was no mention of extra fees..... i did stop him at 1 point to make sure that all my discounts get carried over ( ive a number of concessions) and that i dont want to receive my next bill showing an increase....he said not to worry that if there was a problem to phone them back and they will rectify any over charge

Yes it does seem to be one big upsell. I was being offered the 100mb connection or the smaller one with a monthly cap. Two extremes. It's classic sales tactics and well, I feel let down by UPC by these games they are playing today.

So much for building up trust over the years to have this trail handled as an excuse to upsell, push and get more money out of you. Shame on UPC I say. I am very annoyed with their behaviour and borderline "sham" of a trial.

It's no more a trial then UPC is a company who care about the customer....

    Monthly cap? ahh here.

I know a 10GB monthly cap. It was to make the higher priced package more attractive. Felt like I was being sold a used car by a well oiled salesman. I didn't have time to argue as I was in the airport (and that 1890 number isn't cheap on a mobile) when he realised I wasn't interested in paying 80euro+ a month he threw the call over to customer care.

That's good news I would assume all the new installs will include the latest firmware and latest version remote which was a little concern to me as people had commented the provided remote was rubbish

wait..****e! i signed up for the trial, have the box a couple of weeks now but Im moving in a month or 2 and have tv and internet sorted in the new house already.
hope that they don't think that i signed up for a new contract. Must cancel the direct debit soon as so.

Can someone confirm please if you need to surrender your current digibox or can you keep it "just in case" ?

I only recently got a HD+ box from them and would like the reassurance that if the Horizon box is acting up I can reconnect my HD+ and go back to what I had.

If you get the horizon trial you will be able to hold onto your old box.just in case.
To join the trial, didn't have to sign up to a contract extension.
