    Great!

At work and can't access email. All slots will probably be filled by the time I get home.

    Booked for the 11th!

I declined it. €85 a month. Over €400 more a month for me.

Also annoyed at them. In the press they said everyone would be upgraded to 50mbs for free and equipment swapped out were needed. I am getting a 5mb upgrade and if I want 50 I need to pay them for the equipment swap.

€1000+ a year is a lot to ask trialist to commit to.

I found sales to be very pushy and rude.

It was only €2.50 extra for me

7upfree: I think patrickmooney is saying that they wanted to increase his monthly rental to 85 Euro if he took the horizon TV trial.

In the the email I received, it mentioned that I have to change packages (move to a new bundle). We pay around 61 Euro a month....I really hope my monthly rental doesn't increase.

The email also mentions a credit of 90 Euro to your bill and 12 Euro credit for 2 x ondemand movies.

Will report back more when I get a chance to call them.

I guess it depends on what package you are already on. Some people would already be paying more, so the move would be good.

I'll wait to hear exactly what price and package they offer me. I currently have The Complete Bundle 100 package, plus some extra bits.

Did not receive an email today either, not to bothered maybe they are doing it by area you live in,also if they require me to pay more to upgrade my package and it exceeds €2,50 a month I will also be declining

Yes I pay for two homes. One home is 83 the second is 53. It's in the 53 home that they wanted it increased to 85.

Yes new package. New 12 month subscription.

12 months for a trial and an increased subscription - it would seem to be a marketing scam.

If also got a second email last week saying that I would be contacted shortly, unless there is an incentive such as bumping up from 50Mb to 100Mb broadband, or extra phone minutes - I'll be declining the 'trial'

Thanks for clearing that up Patrick. Asking a customer to upgrade their package to be able to get this box is out of order in my opinion.

This is not the action of a company offering a trial anymore.

Theyre giving €90 in credit for taking up the trial, would be a bit strange for that to be included for a "scam"

Sounds much more like a soft launch, with possible bugs and problems.

"Scam" is a harsh term in this instance - but you have to wonder is €90 in credit a good deal for someone who will have to pay an extra €32 per month and is now tied into a new 12 month contract? Given that this person is supposed to be 'trialing' a box that is not ready for full release yet I don't think it's such a great incentive.

They'll have plenty people who are already paying the minimum fee happy to be the first to get this box.

Oh no I agree for that specific poster its a bad deal, but for me when I'm only paying €2.50 extra a month, its a hell of a deal!, I'm essentially getting a month and a half for free!

    Hey,

Can someone PM me the number also? Got an email 12th April and no word since, my contract is up so I need to know asap what the story is. If not Sky be getting a phone call.

    Thanks,

Yeah, who is arguing that point? Just saying that someone that isn't paying that amount may not want to upgrade and get tied into a new contract for a service that isn't working 100% yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,663 ✭✭✭JoeyJJ

Plus it looks like being accepted onto a trial was really only being accepted to possibly send you out a number if you are lucky and only the first 280 will then actually get on a trial.

Way to piss off existing customers upc.

Well, that's kind of stating the obvious isn't it?

UPC don't really care about that.........it's not gonna hold up this "project" if some people don't go for it. It looks like there are plenty who will.

Can someone confirm please if you need to surrender your current digibox or can you keep it "just in case" ?

I only recently got a HD+ box from them and would like the reassurance that if the Horizon box is acting up I can reconnect my HD+ and go back to what I had.

Weird, I kind of thought you were stating the obvious to me when you said

'They'll have plenty people who are already paying the minimum fee happy to be the first to get this box.'.

This is a discussion forum, people make comments, argue points etc. I simply don't understand why UPC are asking some people to upgrade and have to pay more per month to trial a system that hasn't even had it's bugs ironed out yet. If a company wants someone to 'trial' a system properly and have them send feedback etc then they don't start the trial by having some people pay more per month. I've never heard of a tech trial like that. That makes me think it's not a trial anymore, just a way of getting people to upgrade to their new system. Which is fine, but they should at least say that's what this is all about.

Am in the same boat here. Got email saying I was accepted on the trial but no email today. Would really appreciate the number by pm if someone would share ;-) Shoody work by UPC on this one

Yeah was thinking this myself they would not want to send out all the emails in one day and have the lines totally swamped,I would imagine they send them out in batches according to alphetbetical order or the area you live in,as a matter of interest did anyone outside dublin receive the email today

I was just on to them & was told that I'd have to pay an extra €19 a month on top of what I'm currently paying. He then proceeded to tell me that what I'm paying (I have loyalty discounts) is a mistake. When I told him that the price I pay is what I agreed with loyalty dept he still said it was a mistake! When I said I wasn't interested in the trial he said that he'll have to get someone to check out my current pricing & ring me back as regards increasing it!. So I don't know whether this was some sort of ploy or scare tactic, so I'll see if I get a call.

I asked how long the trial was for & was told that once you're on it that's it. He said there was no three month trial. You will have changed your bundle, entered a new 12 month contract & there's no going back. When I said so it's not a trial at all, the guy just said eh well...you get free installation & the chance to experiece Horizon before anyone else & €90 credit on your bill.

    So much for that then.

Hmmm righto here is the shizz :D

You will get the full tv pack and 100MB broadband for 73.50 per month 12 month contract.

In return you get 102 credit.

So basically if you are paying full price at the moment for the tv and broadband this is a good deal, if you have a (loyalty) discount on your account maybe this wont be a good deal.

My bill at the moment is 54 Euro for basic pack HD tv and 60MB broadband so cant justify the upgrade. Works out an extra 130 quid a year...for year 1 and 235 a year onwards, no thanks

edit: me and cushie having the same experience
