I much preferred the fan control on the AsRock, just set it to take action at 60 degrees.

Fan gets really loud and temps jump as you'd expect. Stay at 55ish initially.

I would expect idles temps at 25 tbh with the Hyper 212 (1.25v), I'm pretty sure that's what I had with my AsRock.

seems to be based off load then, not temps, or has a REALLY low temp tolerance to whereby it hits that temp and then ramps up. Check the PWM settings in your BIOS, I've no idea where they are since all mine are on a fan controller :o

I messed with the PWM setting. They are set automatically to te lowest (0.75).

The weird thing is my fan idles at 1200rpm. I'm going to disconnect and rec the fan see what happens.

You're not wrong. I'm hoping though that with Micron releasing the M500, Samsung will chuck out a 1TB 840 that's cheaper.

Honestly, I'm very impressed with how fast SSDs have grown. I didn't think at this time last year that we'd see 1TB drives this soon.

The floods had a lot to do with it. It forced people to switch to SSDs sooner than they would otherwise, and that resulted in a big boost in sales. SSD sales more than doubled between October 2011 and January 2013. This in turn let manufacturers drop prices and expand faster than they would have without the HDD crisis.

At this rate they'll have rendered HDDs obsolete in about 5 years.

Of course some newfangled tech will then appear, allowing us to store data in our socks or in the laugh of an innocent child.

The first link shows speedstep on and the 2nd doesnt. Notice not much of a difference. I reckon that's just false readings from 3D mark but looking at my score, those false readings couldnt be that wrong

I should for the craic try 1x 670 but its late and im tired.

    edit

3Dmark is pretty unreliable it seems

    nvidia inspector -> profiles -> 3DMark -> SLI bits dx11: 0x080000F5

Why were you expecting a difference between speedstep on and off?

You should have it on to save power when the cpu is idle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,756 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

No as you can see in the first link it's 1600 which wasn't right at all so turning off speedstep gave the 4400. I thought it was the cpu fault causing the low score

Was hoping my GPU would arrive today. Looks like it'll be Monday :( I hate waiting for parts to arrive

A really good fan roundup posted on SPCR:

    http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1342-page1.html

Long story short, the best fan they tested was NoiseBlocker's new eLoop B12 (Toe-to-toe with Gentle Typhoons), Silent Wings 2 are also pretty good. Corsair fans suck, and Silverstone's new AP-123's sound awesome, but are lacking in the cooling department (the reverse of Corsair).

Also: Intel have officially stated that Haswell will launch at Computex (3rd-7th June) When actual chips will be available for purchase is unclear (though I'd imagine no more than a few days delay, if any).

    How quick was that

Got me new replacement hard drive today

And the cloning was all done, got a few errors but you expect that because of the original hard drive ****ing up

I don't see anything unusual there? 3DMark takes its reading of the system spec before it begins the test, so given the system was probably almost completely idle at the time, the CPU would have been downclocked to 1.6GHz by speedstep.

Not sure you can even conclude much from the marginally lower score based on a single run of each, a ~1% difference is most definitely in the vicinity of statistically insignificant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,756 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

I did not know about taking readings before the test

I didnt conclude anything from the lower score bar 3D mark needing an update to fix the sli issues

Sweet keyboard NTMK, what are the noise levels like compared to your previous one (assuming it was a membrane type)?

Have a G110 which is getting a bit shook and would like a mech but have only tried a das keyboard with Blue switches and found the noise from it grating.

That feeling you get when you finish 4 years of college then come home the next day after a night out to a new GPU. :D

Thinking of ditching the crossfire 2gb 7850's and going single card. I convinced myself it was stellar performance for a reasonable price and it is when it works but already, several games later, crossfire issues are starting to show their ugly head. Depending on what I'm playing I regularly have to switch between Crossfire on and off. Any suggestions? I was thinking a 7950 and OC the hell out of it. Generally prefer Nvidia because I have an Nvidia 3d Monitor but the value just isn't there comparatively.

Don't go by reviews. A lot of the sites don't re-test old cards with newer drivers. I haven't kept track of things well enough, but if X card comes out two months before Y, they'll re-use X in Y's review without re-testing it with new drivers. Linus uses the newest drivers for each, and overclocks each card to decent-but-attainable-by-everyone speeds, so it gives you a much more realistic idea of what to expect.

I've been using a model m from the mid 80's so its quieter than that anyway :pac:

its defined a lot louder than a membrane esp if you're a heavy typist even with the o-ring on each switch . but its the same as the blue in that respect. you dont have that audible click that the blues do at the actuation point but i don't have a lot of time done on a blue kb to give a detailed comparison on noise levels

If a game supports it, I put in in Borderless Windowed.

Also called fullscreen Windowed in some games. Small performance hit ingame (negligible for the most part), but makes tabbing in and out of games very convenient.

    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/Fibre-Internet-Nuro-Fiber,news-43724.html

For just $50/month, So-net is offering a 2 Gbps fiber-based Internet connection to Tokyo-area residents.
So-net, a Sony-owned ISP, has launched its “Nuro” service for Tokyo-area residents. It utilizes Japan’s GPON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) and provides speeds of 2 Gbps, which are the world’s fastest, at least doubling the speed of any comparable U.S. fiber-optic consumer connections.
The service costs just $50/month, which is remarkably low in comparison to either Google Fiber or Verizon FiOS that provide 1 Gbps and 150 Mbps for $79 and $129, respectively. This low price comes with two major caveats: a $540 installation fee, and a mandatory two-year contract that is presumably being used to fund further expansions to the company’s fiber-optic network.

I would love this so much !!!!!!!

Is there a download cap?Be kind of pointless offering that speed if there is.This would cost me a fortune in hard drives if it were available here.

I would imagine there is no cap involved . The google fibre has no cap involved at all so I would that fibre would be the same .

Why in your right mind would you own a hard drive if you had this?
