Was at a meeting last night and got some information. Source was someone who is working behind the scenes. How reliable it is, I don't know. Here's some info that I took:

    - Base year 2012 but payment to be calculated by dividing 2013 payment over 2012 area - don't know how exactly it will work, and couldn't get a proper answer.
    - 25% top up for young farmers for first 5 years of farming from 2015 onwards. So if you transfer farm now, you will only get 3 years of top up, 2014 you will get 4 years of top up and transfer in 2015 you will get 5 years of 25% top up.
    - Advisable for those with no entitlements to buy a small amount of cheap entitlements for this year as this might put them in a more favourable position when things are being divided out.
    - It's unavoidable that those with very large entitlements per Ha are going to have them significantly reduced to levels which match other farmers. In the move to make payments area based as opposed to productivity based, the argument of one farm beng more productive than another and deserving a higher SFP will not be accepted. Payments have to move towards area based payments.

    Their words, not mine.

This was all of the info that I got.

Who was giving out the answers Reilig? Rereading the first line you might not want to say, if so fair enough.

Still doesn't explain what happens if (like me) you had no land in 2012.

Although as I said before, I'm quite happy to divide by zero and get infinity.

I'll do that of course (although not sure if I hold out much hope for it)

I did buy 2 spare entitlements from the Vendor (all he had available, and I paid him well for them).. and this year would be the first year I could use them, as have been farming the ground since last September.

Not sure what will happen to these 2 in the changes though, will they just vanish?

2 lorry loads of bales went from leitrim to cork yesterday. That's 170 miles.

See what I posted above. We were advised that if you have no entitlements to buy some cheap ones in order to benefit most from the new cap. You don't need to do that now.

Reminds me of Lostcovey and his story about the guy down the local that they christened 'crocodile donedeal'! I'd say there's any amount of crocodile donedeals out there at the mo willing to snap the hand off a lad for a grab of silage!

No as if the animal was pulling hard or frothing they would be detained and skipped

God I hate herd test, cows bawling, and then spend what seems like eternity getting calves back to the right pens, top it all vet was 2 hours late, ah well it's done now, hopefully all clear and will all be forgotten,

Vet 2 hrs late, I'm sure that's the last time they'll test for you. I guarantee they are never late for the factory

    So have I. Hopefully clear.
After walking the land this evening. Absolutely brutal. Rain milling down past three hours. Not a dry day in past three weeks. Land miserable.
Thinking of planning for worst case weather scenario this year.
Really considering bulling only the best 50% of the cows!
Wean all empty ones early and fatten for factory.
Really starting to believe weather is going to be worse than last year. Might as well have a plan ready.

You not test the calves in the pins itself? What we have always done, just bring in a pallet etc and get them tight in a corner. Our current vet is very good at testing thankfully, does it right the 1st time and moves quickly through animals. Had ours back at the start of the month, clear again thankfully, about 10yrs since we last went down, and I can think of no worse spring to have gone down in and be stuck with extra stock!

make sure clipping marks are visible, dept inspector specifically asked about them at inspection, our vet uses electric ones

Hmm in fairness to a vet, they were more than lightly out on an emergency call. Its happened us with testing before, probably the same 2hours late, but we got a call from the girl in the office early enough to say he'd be late, so at least we werent hanging around. If the shoe was on the other foot, and I needed my vet to come out to a calving etc I'd prefer he wouldn't go about 1/2 his days scheduled business before he'd bother showing up!

Hmm didn't know that, ours just uses a normal scissors, I'll suggest a little electronic clippers to him next time, might make his life alittle easier!

Ours will be in next few weeks too.
Have always hated testing and with off farm job scheduling it in can be a pain.
We try for a Wed test and read on Saturday.
At our highest stock numbers in a decade so hopefully it's a good one ;)

I hate the herd test, not because of the work but the stress it puts on animals. I could guarantee that I will loose an animal or two in the days after the herd test. It is probably a mix up of being too busy testing to keep proper eye on the stock during testing days and also the intense stress on the animals. Never had a reactor during the herd test which makes all the worse.

Its about time we as farmers demanded that the fiasco that is herd test is re visited. It makes absolute no sense in my view that I test today, my neighbor tests in 3 months time and another 3 months after that and so on.
