I was thinking of that earlier. It's like he's avoiding a six star wanted rating.

I am no defender of GH, but he is not giving out about the cops. He is giving out about the higher ups deciding to shut down the entire city. Think its more about different experiences of life really, and is very understandable.

This is the first time that something like this has ever happened in Boston. So naturally the folks there may not think that locking down the entire city is a bit of an over the top reaction. Folks from this side of the pond, who have lived thru bomb scares or terrorist incidents in London or Dublin or Belfast, when those cities functioned relatively normally as the crazy stuff went down, may think that it is over the top. I can see both povs in fairness.

It'd be a bit irresponsible to let people go about their day to day business when there could be explosives littered around the city. Hell, they pushed the media back a few hours ago and have since discovered a suspected explosive device just across the road from where they were.

It's not about what happened on Monday, it's about the fact that there's an armed-to-the-teeth lunatic roaming the streets panicking and nobody knows where. We've never dealt with that as far as I'm aware.

I'm locked down and i dont think its an overreaction. There is a desperate terrorist with nothing to lose on the loose in the city, i dont want to be walking around this city with this prick on the loose calling people on a whim.

Also, it sends a warning to other terrorists that this is the extent the US will go to, to make sure you don't win.

I think it is very fair criticism. They don't seem to know where he is.

They didn't know where he was from Monday up until 18 hours ago and didn't feel the need to shut down the city. Why not do what they were doing successfully 24 hours ago by waiting for them to make a mistake, which they did. The only thing it seems to have done so far is encourage crazy reports, twitter conversations and fear of leaving your front door in broad daylight.

It could be argued if he can get away this long without having been more than 5 miles from the city, then someone more prepared with more financial backing etc will win.

The police must be exhausted. Anyone coming up to 18 hours on duty is being asked to stop. Imagine being in such a heightened state of vigilance for that long?

It's more of an overtime issue than anything else.

I see it as an overaction. Shutting the transit system - fair enough. But locking an entire city down is plain stupid and is a concession to these low lifes.

Only certain parts of the city are on lock-down. The guy may have explosives strapped to his body and more in a bag. I think shutting down certain areas is a least worst idea, rather than having everyone go about their day as usual with the place swarming with cops and an unhinged lunatic on the loose. It allows the authorities to focus on what they are doing without all the noise that goes with every day life.

Maybe it is a bit of an overreaction but it's not really Hook's place to condemn it, and a bit insensitive of him to do so and then ask people to come on his show to disagree with him. He's looking for an argument rather than trying to make any real point.

He might blow up a load of kids, like. Then they'll wish they'd locked the city down.

Because 18 hours ago they weren't identified. They'd no need to panic.

Once they were identified they robbed a conveinence store, killed a security guard, kidnapped another man and threw explosives out of a car at police officers. And police have found at least one suspected explosive device in an alleyway.

It'd be pretty irresponsible to let people stroll around like none of that happened.

Can someone explain how he got away originally?
He drove away from the crime scene.... Eh why didn't they go after him?
They did go after him.... But he managed to evade everyone?

How did they shoot one guy and let the other get away?

The shootout in Watertown last night happened around 1:30am, and it was pitch black. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSlRHJv1nnA&sns=fb

I would guess that tracking down someone in the middle of the night after a firefight isn't an easy task.

Also, to speak to the earlier point, keeping people off of the streets in daytime makes it easier for law enforcement to hone in on potential suspects trying to flee the area. Helicopters have been circling overhead all day.

    Did they though?
Lots of shots heard, no visual.
Talk of the younger brother driving over the elder.
    The elder died in hospital.

After the car chase they got out of the car and began shooting at the police. The cops, presumably, got out of their cars to find cover and return fire. The two lit another bomb which reportedly filled the entire street with smoke. The older brother then ran towards the cops (with a suicide vest on) when he was shot, killed and possibly exploded. While this was happening the younger brother got back in the car (a SUV) and drove over his brother and straight into the police. He then sped off and disappeared before everyone got time to react (they presumably had to make sure there weren't any bombs left behind as well).

    Ha..

CNN have changed the "Sign" above the younger brothers head from "Wanted" to "On The Run"..

Ha ha. just simple little stupid things to dramatise it a little bit more (As if it needs it). In the Wanted Font too..

The thing that annoys me about the whole ordeal is the media using the fact that on his facebook page he mentions his love of his home country and supports Chechnyan independence, and is a devout muslim as damning evidence against him. He's an emigrant living in a strange country. I'm fairly sure that a large percentage of the Irish that emigrated to Boston over the years would have haboured ambitions to see Irish independence. It's a natural thing.

Not that I condone his actions. I hope he is caught alive so we can get answers

Fox news are spinning like a frisbee with a lawnmower engine. In another hour they'll have managed to find a direct family lineage between these bombers and the prophet Muhammed.

This many hours in with more or less every armed branch of the US Government looking for him, all you can say is he's hide and seek player of the century. He's probably waiting for them to drop their guard to make an escape. They can't keep the city locked down forever.
