Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your iPhone :-)

Nay bother. I have to say I was seething from the whole experience.
I was tempted to go on about the network providers as well but after much ranting and raving they sorted me out - though it was initially suggested it was some app I had installed that probably caused the problem.
I wonder will they fix the phones or just repackage them and sell them to some other poor sod.

Yeah, well there's no excuse when you're paying so much for a phone, but I guess every phone has quality control issues at the start.

The One still has a bucketload of useful features, which will no doubt be added to the iPhone 5s or 6.

By the way, the TV controls are awesome. No longer do I have to hunt the house looking for where the kids have put the remotes!

Yes I agree the TV remote is awesome. All its missing is the red button for sky! I also had problems with the headphone. Mine were crackling a lot while listening to music. It didn't bother me anyway because I never liked the in ear design so I use my apple headphones from the iPhone 4(hated the iPhone 5 ones too). The video recording is much better than my iPhone 5 . the sound that comes through is amazing. I think this is by far a better phone than iPhone 5 with just one or two things letting it down to be 10/10.the fact you can't remove Blinkfeed is a dumb move from htc which will draw people to third party launchers. Other than that sense is pretty good.

The sound was very good from the phone but the headphone thing to me is totally unacceptable at that price.

Also, the dodgy camera on the replacement would make me lack confidence in the longevity/reliability of the phone.

I was trying to use the remote with a UPC box and couldn't which, upon googling, is a common issue.

Why should you accept things that don't work as they should? All that does is drive the quality down as manufacturers think people will accept any old ****e.

As I said, gaming is superior on the iPhone too. It's a lot harder to control the precision on the new htc.

Yeah, it's a glitzy piece of hardware with lots of promise and great sound and picture quality.

The glitches bothered me though - had one or two phones before with slight glitches from day one - they were totally useless within 3-6 months and I was out of pocket.....

As I posted in the HTC One Faults thread got my replacement HTC One.

Same serial FA33CW = 12th March 2013, same faults as listed in that thread and my other post above.

eMobile are out of stock till next week so hopefully the next batch are from a different/later date and faultless.

Edit: Just wanted to add as I said before I'm not ragging on the One, imho its the best Android phone (maybe any phone) out there. I've just had 2 dodgy from the same batch. Just check the serial number when your shopping for one. Its printed on the outside of the box as well as available in settings

Hardware issues will be ironed out in the next week or 2 if not already its unlucky you got 2 you weren't happy with tho.

Sense TV is 1.0 release from what ive read UPC is the only major omission once there aware that can be changed with a simple update.

Im not sure what you mean by "precision" but yes IOS is a better platform for gaming, unless you do a bit of tinkering gaming on android is a little broken.

    TLDR;

Hardware issues are common and should be expected if you adopt early.

There no such think as perfect / bug free software.

Hey who did you buy the phone from. Was it eMobile/Meteor?

My HTC One from Meteor has the serial FA33DW = 13th March 2013 and is perfect. Good luck with your next one.

I've just had 2 dodgy from the same batch.

You had two dodgy ones and I've had two dodgy ones - and it would appear that they are for different reasons which indicates there are quality control issues in multiple areas of the production process.
    Wake up HTC!

Just received my replacement. So far so good. The build quality seems to be better this time around, although there is still a gap at the top of the phone but it doesn't bother me. Volume rocker was flimsy on the last one but this time it's solid. Letting it charge now before I turn it on.

Thats true but I've had 2 dodgy phones made on the exaxt same day in the same factory and sold from the same network emobile. Who was your mobile provider, Meteor, Voda, O2?

I don't have any carrier branding (meteor) on mine. There are these stickers in the box. The kind of ones a carrier would use to reseal the device post processing. So I'm going to pick up a sim from another network tomorrow and try it out.

Ya, the device is carrier unlocked alright. I have a working O2 sim in it.

    3.

That's two too many dodgy phones for my tastes.

Cheers. Its pissing me off as well so I know where your coming from, especially the way I was treated like I was the only person who has ever had a problem with the One by a member of emobiles staff.

But I am looking for a phone with the features of the HTC One and I'm going to give it one more try. I just will not accept another One from the FA33CW batch which after 2 of them seem like there were machining problems in that factory that day. If a new One from another, newer batch fails I'll be canceling my upgrade. Not going S4 though as my days of playing with Tonka toys are long over. 3rd times lucky eh.

Am I right in saying Meteor have the most competitive 18 month contracts at the moment for an above average user (across the board, talk, text and data)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,477 ✭✭✭ofcork

What about emobile with their 45000 mins 10000txts and 5gb data.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,634 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

am I looking at the emobile website right, they don't seem to have the HTC One, how much is that contract?

I think meteors deal of the phone for €199 and 30pm for 18months with 200mins, 200 texts and 1gb is the best deal. Anyone know any shops in Dublin that have the phone in stock though?

    You know there's one for 12 months, 1GB/month, 35e/month, phone is 199.

That's what I got on Meteor.

Also, anyone tried a custom ROM yet? So far I've just rooted mine (can't use a non-rooted phone...), but there are FW's out there with the camera and ZOE improvements.

Well folks, I bought one of these and loved it, that is until I plugged in the headphones and some crazy crap started happening - I.e: it made phonecalls to my contacts when the headphones jack was barely touched - very annoying and made listening to music impossible.
Took it back after two days and the shop exchanged it and the new one didn't have this problem but this one had a faulty camera where the screen flickered.
Long story short - I swapped for an iPhone.
Previously had a HTC wildfire and the phone was bulletproof, still is.
I for one have lost all faith in HTC's quality control.
Ridiculous for a 600 quid phone.
Also, the controls aren't as smooth as the iPhone when playing games.
Sure it looks cool and has lots of great, if somewhat pointless features -like changing channels on the t.v, which didn't work for me either funnily enough - but really there's no point if you can't rely on its basic functionality.
Maybe I was unlucky but I will never buy another HTC again.

Bad luck. From what you write, it sounds like you would've gone for any new phone, played with it, and swapped if you didn't like it, for whatever else which is the newest. You didn't research it much before picking HTC One, did you?

Jeez you're determined! It is a potentially awesome phone though and certainly had some very impressive features that, if they worked flawlessly, would have made it superior to the iPhone 5.
Still, I know dozens of people with iPhone and none of them have had the problems I had or you had with the HTC one.
Funny, all the shops seem to revel on making out you are the only one with a problem. It's total b.s.
So much for 'the customer is always right'.

I'm looking to get notifications displayed in the lock screen but not show the content when it's a message, just who it's from. I tried using the productivity lock screen but it seems to be just for stock messages and not the like of whatsapp.

I'm also looking To get the app badges....

I got nova launcher but it only lit the screen up showing nothing in the main lock screen- only in the top bar.

    Any help appreciated :)

That's a bit condescending there mate.
I did research it and compared specs with the iPhone and thought it would be superior. Unfortunately it wasn't.
It promised a lot but failed miserably to deliver.
You're talking as if I like wasting my time returning stuff and complaining for no good reason - and quite frankly, that is a ridiculous assertion.
People need to be informed about substandard products - I wish I had been.
If the second phone they gave worked - I would have been happy - but it didn't and that's pathetic for the price.
I'd rather have paid more and had it do what it was meant to do.

It's far superior to the iPhone 5 which is a given considering it's predecessor the One X and also the S3 were better than the iPhone.

Just a thought, you can make a call by holding the button on the headphones so perhaps it was the headphones that were faulty? My last iPhone 4 had a problem where the speakers didnt work at all but it didnt put me off, I got a replacement which has worked for years. To be fair, I havent seen much on the international forums or tech press regarding problems with the HTC one besides the usual random issues you get with phones.

Well, give me something that works flawlessly without having to run back to the shop every five minutes with something that had potential to be better and I know which piece of hardware I'd rather have.
Funny, I have always been full of praise for HTC and had no intention of getting an iPhone and yet here I am arguing its superiority.
A phone in the hand is worth two in the shop awaiting repair.
I'm done with this thread now - good luck with your phones people and I wish everyone a better experience than I had with the new HTC. But if you have issues - know that you're definitely not the only one!
