Apologies. Yeah Adam Byrne, and Coghlan Murray signed a one year Academy contract extension.

no need to apologize, the confusion caused by Molony/Moloney is frequent.

good news on SCM, he missed a lot of time with that illness.

3 schools products and 3 youths products.

    Peter Dooley(LH Prop/Youth-Offaly)
    Ross Molony(Lock/St.Michaels-Dublin)
    Steve Crosbie(Outhalf/St.Gerrards-Dublin)
    Tom Daly(Centre/Youth-Carlow)
    Adam Byrne(Wing/Youth-Kildare)
    Billy Dardis(Fullback/Terenure-Kildare)

Compared to the last couple of years would only six new additions not be a surprisingly small group? Or will there be a couple more late additions after the JWC?

possibly, depends on who goes to the JWC.

Almost all of Leinster's players who might be involved with u20 squad are now in the academy:

    Peter Dooley(1), Ed Byrne(2), Brian Byrne(2), Gavin Thornbury(2), Dan Leavy(2), Josh Van Der Flier(2), Luke McGrath(3), Steve Crosbie(1), Tom Daly(1), Adam Byrne(1).

All of these are in contention for a JWC spot and will be in the academy system next season.

Also, is it unusual for Dardis to go straight from school into academy, or based on age more so?

Is Gerrards not in Wicklow no? Brilliant for Dardis-the only u18 there. Hope he lives up to his potential. Byrne is an outstanding prospect too.

Not that unusual, Leavy went straight from under 18 schools to academy last year and Luke McGrath the year before.

Also last year Thornbury and the Byrne twins went from under 19 schools to academy last year.

Its a lot more rare for a player who has two years eligibility at under 20 level to go straight into the academy(McGrath, Leavy, Dardis) than a player who only has one(Thornbury,Byrne twins)

Several did last year, the best usually do. Leavy, McGrath, Conway, Macken all have in recent years, pretty sure Heaslip and Kearney did too. Leavy in particular was very young

Gerrard's is outside Bray just across the Dublin border with Wicklow, but Crosbie is from Leopardstown.

    This year there was:

    1 under 18: Dardis
3 under 19: Dooley, Molony, Byrne
    2 under 20: Crosbie, Daly

    Contrast to last year:
    1 under 18: Leavy
4 under 19: Thornbury, Byrne, Byrne, Van Der Flier
3 under 20: Beirne, Conan, Marsh

In that case, is there any reason why Cian Kelleher/Brewer/Ringrose etc didn't make it? Just players at different physical levels? Brewer is finished this June isn't he?

Don't think Kelleher or Ringrose are good enough, Brewer is interesting case.

Probably destined for the sub-academy and see if he sticks at 12 or 8.

Mentioned it before but not convinced by him at all. Good physical specimen but not the best rugby brain and not one for passing. Even in good games at school level you can see his limitations, can't see him being physically exceptional enough to make up for them past school

I suppose it wasnt felt that they were good enough yet, that a year or two in the sub academy structure might be more beneficial. The academy players are decided by Joe Schmidt, colllie mcentee and girvan dempsey.

brewer kelleher overated, ringrose is just an average joe who can kick, hasn't played representative yet. Anyone know how he got along at the trials?

Moloney the roscrea 7 should have got a contract

Conway had a year in the academy before signing a full contract. Luke Fitzgerald was the last to skip the academy.

Yeah Conway was in the academy I'm pretty sure.

Only two I know to skip in recent years in Ireland were Fitygerald and Butler.

Good to see 3 youths players join the Leinster academy. With the work being put into the youths system that number will only keep on going up
Usually is end of May/June before Munster announce their academy. Will be interesting to see how many Munster add considering there is only 3 in final year this season
