Great course, you'll enjoy it. Used to be 36, not sure it is anymore...

its not. only 18 these days, but the timesheet does be packed. Was only a couple of shots off one year, but it does take a serious round to win it.

Looking at Lucan's scorecard it looks like it could be a nice one to take on. Probably a tight enough course given some of the holes seem quite short ?

It's a very good course except for the first par 3 which is one of the worst holes I've ever played.

That's a pretty bland par 3 alright but at least it's out of the way early in the round so you can forget about it, 16th is superb.
Our society plays it every year, has all the shots I think, no boring straight up and down all day long, always well attended and always folk looking forward to the return next year.

They have opens on a Monday @ €20, great value, I'll be hitting some of them in a month or so after work.

It is 36 holes in one day. Unfortunately off 13 you wouldn't qualify. The handicap range for the Junior SC is 4-10. Sorry dude!:(

I'm not knocking the course just that hole. The opens are on a Tuesday and I play it every few weeks. Glen of the Downs JSC is on the same day as Lucan which is a pity.

been a while since i played Lucan but the 1st par 3 is not the worst hole on the course. I think it's the 8th where you tee off into a completely blind shot cause there is about a 20ft hill right in front of the tee box! having said that, i do like the course.

Glen of the Downes is a cracking little hidden Gem of a course.

Yeah I know the one you mean but once you play it a few times its straight forward enough. I've lost count of the times I've hit the green on that par 3 only to see the ball spin back off and down the hill. Anyway I'm looking forward to the Glen. Must try and get a practice round in soon

Junior scratch cup in Blarney Golf Resort on bank holiday Monday 6th May.

Timesheet now open, to book call proshop on Tel. 021 4516472

Course in great condition, the purchase of a new roller for the greens has made a huge difference to the speed of the greens. Should be in super nick for the scratch cup as the qualifying rounds for the Bruen are weekend after

With 36 hole scratch cups so difficult to come upon a tough choice to be made on 1st June with the Headfort JSC (18 holes on each course) for €40 or the Beaverstown JSC for €25. Headfort is a great venu up for a 36 hole event but I always like playing Beaverstown and it's great value at €25. Pity they couldn't have them on different weekends.

I will be playing the Beaverstown JSC (home course) so if anyone is looking for someone to play with just let me know.

Got my name down for the JSC, time is of the essence as only a handful of spots left in the Junior. Plenty of slots left in the Senior but the handicap range is pretty tight at 0-3 while the Junior is 4-10. Granted the senior is more prestigious but is there a comparatively similar number of 0-3 handicaps as 4-10 players? Would have thought there would be significantly more Junior players which appears to be supported by the rate at which the time sheets are filling up. Would it not make more sense to extend the Senior out to 4 and restrict the Junior from 5-10, too late now obviously but in general?

Out of interest can you explain how the two tee operating system works. You tee off at either the 1st or 10th at your allotted time depending if playing the SSC or JSC and hopefully by the time you finish your first 9 holes all 15 groupings ahead will have cleared the tee. Sounds like a decent system and more favorable to a shotgun start but is it possible to get more players out rather than just having a normal tee time and playing your second round 5hrs later since the course would have to be closed to anyone wanting to play more than 9 holes prior to the first starting time of 08:30?

Anyway looks to be a popular event and since I've never played the course before looking forward to it.

Bunclody have a SCC & JSC next Sun 28th Apr, 18 holes for €25. Was contemplating going despite the long distance from Dublin but rang the club there and it's totally booked out so there goes that. Was looking at it during the week but their timesheet for the SCC & JSC wasn't available online (forgot to ask why on the phone) so foolishly left it too late. Somewhat surprised though that it was booked out, it's part of the TopGolfer.ie schedule so perhaps that's the reason.

The Curragh also have a SCC & JSC on next Sun 28th Apr, 18 holes for €15 so will venture to that instead. Great value and a course I like playing and alot more convenient travel wise plus their timesheet is available online with plenty of slots available.

Just entered my first intermediate scratch cup. It's at Blainroe tomorrow. Considering I'm off 18 I hope there's a net prize for me to play for cos I certainly won't be contending for the overall prize!

Never played a scratch cup,but I thought the idea was that there is only a gross prize, as everyone plays off scratch?

Correct, the winner is the person with the best gross prize and the main prizes are for the best gross scores however most places have a couple of nett prizes also as the handicap ranges are quite wide so if you've at the upper limit of the range it gives you something to play for.
For 36 hole events there is often prizes for the best first and second 18 hole gross scores for those outside the main prizes so if you have a shocker of a first round have courtesy to your playing partners and play the second round and try and compete for that.

Definitely give a few scratch cups a go, they're usually very reasonable and are a pure form of golf - stroke play from the back sticks with often tough pin positions. They're a good test of your handicap playing away courses at their finest.

Played the intermediate scratch cup in Blainroe today. Went round in 95 shots, 77 nett. Irons were good but my driving was poor and couldn't buy a putt. Made my first one on 17, birdied that one but only because I hit my tee shot to 6 foot

Greens were in fantastic shape and the course was a credit to Blainroe.
