Loughrea's Junior Scratch Cup is calling out to me I think

Anyone else thinking about tipping down to Loughrea for the Scratch Cup Weekend this weekend ?

Yes, heading down to Galway this evening for a couple of days and playing Loughrea on the way back on Sat. It's a course I haven't played in a few years but one that's always very welcoming.

Playing in this also on the Sun, haven't played the course before but hear it's quite hilly. It's an opportunity to play a new course anyway. Playing alot of bad golf at present so need a couple of good rounds to stop the .1 rot.

delgany is pretty hilly alright, so much so that they provide a buggy to bring you from the 16th green to the 17th tee :D

Have you put yourself down for it already or want someone to play with ? :)

2nd should be reachable in two? I should hope so, its only 274 metres :-) even my granny might get it there with two solid ones.

Am down already for 11:02 I think with my father and one of his mates. I presume it's 3 balls but I didn't make the booking so can't be sure. No online booking facility which is a pain. Thanks for the offer.

Loved the old 18 holes in Birr, but not a big fan of the changes they made.

Have fun all those that go to it :)

Right I'm booked in for Portarlington Intermediate Scratch Cup on Sunday.

Is it just me or is it weird to have an 18 hole competition run over 2 days? Seems a bit unfair really as could have a belter of a day on saturday with no wind or rain and it could be blowing huricanes on Sunday!

It's common enough. Some clubs run off Junior, Intermediate and Minor of the course of one weekend. But looking at this weekend you'll have the best of it Sunday.

    How did you go ?

How did everyone who played today go ? :)

I decided to give Loughrea a skip cause the weather looked awful :)

Another bad day at the office, 84 hacks around the course so looking like yet another 0.1. Wind was cruel and don't think it assisted on a single hole, tough cross winds with heavy showers for the most part which assisted in skying a couple of balls OB. Iron shots were all over the place and didn't hit a single par 3 and then further compounded the problem by bogeying all the par 5's.

Bar the rough which was a bit soft in places the course was well set up and greens were very smooth and consistent, just a pity we have to try and play in Irish weather conditions. Course was pretty quiet around the 11:00 slot so looks like alot of people kept their distance due to the weather.

Got decent weather yesterday in Portarlington and played with 2 very nice guys. I was happy with my game except the index 1, 7th Hole. Thought to myself, be cute now and hit it nice and easy. Worst thing I could have done as I pulled the arse off it and it caught the trees about 100 yards up and worst of all, my playing partner found it and it wasn't pretty. I took a 9! I burst the provo and it ended up miles down the centre!

Looks like I lost out on the best Nett as a result of that hole and 2nd in the Gross. As it was, I lost out on Nett 3rd on the back 9 and was 1 off 3rd in the Gross.

I shot 86, Nett 73, had a couple of silly double bogeys also. Got stung with my ball embedded in it's own plug mark but no relief as was in the rough. Had to try hack it out and she went in the water!
