The bounces where crazy a few times today hit middle of the fairway and ended up under a tree for a hack out

Lucan senior scratch cup was won by Rowan Lester of Hermitage, who shot 70, 73. Won by 3 shots over Lucan's Stephen Dwyer. The Junior Scratch cup was won by local man Christy Fitzgerald, who shot 80, 72 and won on the back 18.

Senior CSS in round one was 74, rd was 73. Not sure about the junior standard scratches.

77,78. Just didn't make enough birdies, and made a mess of a few holes from easy positions. 18 in particular cost me, two perfect drives and made 7, 6 respectively. Played decent for the most part, but scored poorly. Oh well, maybe next year! Any joy yourself?

no none but happy with how I played for round 2, hit the ball OB four times on round 1 so that killed me, but scraped a 77 on round 2

Where is the best place to find info on scratch cups? Or just check golf clubs websites?

I'm out at 9.20, last i checked there was 2 spaces left on the line.

    how did you get on?

ended up playing with my old man and a pal. turns out we were last of the day, teeing off at 3:10.

i blew it on a couple of holes, shot 90 but had a 9 on 15, 3 putts on 12 & 13 and 3 stupid silly duffed chips that went no more that 2 foot each! But hey, thats golf!

Yer man in the shop collecting cards reckoned that 84 would win it.

Had a terrible round, shot 100, my worst one in a long time, I over did it in the driving range on Saturday and my shoulder was in bits for most of the round, I wasn't able to get through the ball at all, and I had about 4 or 5 snap hooks off the tee in the front 9 that cost me a lot of shots (I think I was out in 58, or something crazy like that :( ). The course was beautiful, and really tough, we where off the championship tees for a lot of holes. I'll definitely be back to play it again, hopefully next time I'll make a better effort of it :)

81 was a great score for someone off > 10 on that course.

Yeah, just don't know what to do there now. Rd1 I absolutely nuked my drive and tried to just hit 6 iron over the ditch for a handy pitch; snapped it left into the bushes. Laid up from a little further back in rd2 and creamed a 9 iron at the flag for my third: hit the downslope 15 feet short of the pin and dived over the back and took 3 to get down.

In retrospect, a lot of poor approach play cost me. I drove it very well for the most part, but only made 3 birdies over the 36. Irons and wedges just not good enough.

    rock hard greens

Greens were very tough, playing more like links greens with very little hold on approach shots. Not sure if they always play so hard (first time playing the course) as they were hardly leaving pitch marks. The putting surface itself was very slick and smooth so no issues there provided you could read the subtle breaks and not let the fear take over on the downhill ones.

A few front pins were very difficult to get to. I launched wedge at 1 and 3 which pitched quite close but ended up right at the back.

The surface as ever were excellent. Just a lot firmer with recent weather.

Lucan greens were excellent, quite hard, but held a ball, except for a couple of the downwind holes, 1 and 3 especially.
    Shot 78, 77.

My putting was awful, missed so many, wasn't through misreads or the greens, just big pushes and pulls. Easily cost me 4/5 shots each round. three 2 putts in a row in the second round to go from level after 5 to 3 over after 8, was a tad bit annoying.

Anyway, enjoyed the day, hit the ball well, and the course was in great nick and a pleasure to play. Biggest downside, two .1's. Missed out on buffer by a shot twice...:-(

looks like it from their website, no wonder it's only €10. still great value, but think i'll give it a miss.

just see Portarlington is having scratch cups same day for €15. Now after the boards outing there it might be worth a return trip :) should be able to find my way around a bit better :)
