Go book your flights to the funeral and order some tissues, the likes of you will be weeping no doubt
    I ain't weeping, I didn't know the woman.

I have a shred of decency about me though.

We're having a good laugh now

No laughter from the dead children, thankfully Thatcher stood up to the ira terrorists.

    You completely missed my point.

Ah yes the great Thatcher who fearlessly sent out the Royal Marines to retake the little craggy islands in the south Atlantic and let's ignore her murdering 323 people on the Belgrano in the process, what a hero. No sending out the Royal Marines to take on the US Marines a year later when America invaded Grenada though :D;)

    Lol, troll fail.

The difference being that the Falklands are British soveriegn territory who's duty it was hers' to defend, and Grenada is an associate state.

    Lol

    She introduced a poll tax.

The English people didn't agree with that and they protested the poll tax. They were listened to and it was replaced with a council tax which people believed was fairer and it survived. That's fair.

Ireland is doing the same with a property tax which is claiming to go towards local services. There are many valid arguements against this. What services exactly? Call out a fire brigade and you need to pay 500 euro an hour for them to put out a fire.

    Maggie was fair.

Dead children murdered by the IRA, presumably. Getting waaaaay off topic though, to be fair.

How long before the IRA claims responsibility for this

"We've been secretly injecting large amounts of cholesterol in her food, slowly waiting for the day that a clot would build up and travel to her brain causing her to have a stroke. THEN she will know the IRA mean business" :pac:

Ah in all seriousness, RIP. Not exactly going to mourn for the woman but anybody who celebrates the death of an old woman with Alzheimers is a bit pathetic in my opinion. Especially the wannabe "up the ra!" types who need to go read a history book.

Of course the fact that one telephone call or even a frown from Washington would put the great Thatcher in her place has nothing to do with it ? :D

She was working-class, or maybe lower-middle herself. She got into Oxbridge on a scholarship. If anything, she represents meritocracy and social mobility.

Thats all very true, but unrelated to the point I was making about the perception that all British person are in her debt. That is possibly true, but it's not necessarily seen to be true by the sections of society that were most affected by her policies in the short term.

to me she was just a typical politian full of bluster, big promises&principles all of which she would break.

Did not like Argentine military government, loved chile military government

Closed unprofitable mines(fair enough) but sold profitable ones to her big business buddies.

Said would never negotiate with the IRA and then did.

She said British people hated been in the EC but never gave them a referendum.

One thing she did manage was to build up a reputation as the Iron Lady when in truth she was known to u-turn on plenty of issues when her ministers put it up to her.

    So RIP

do you know anything about Thatcher?

she basically bloody sold the country to her rich and powerful mates, her policy's led to the housing bubble crash of the late 80ies in the UK leading to a depression, sound familiar?

Must admit I don't know much about her but apparently she did do good for the uk.
